Getting wild out there for sure with the pricing I do like a good Steelbook. My issue is when the studios force me to buy a steel and give no other options. Nice video Timmah!
Hey Ken you already know the game. It is the waiting game on when will a regular slip come out. The days of studios laying all of their video formats on the table at release date is a thing of the past.
Great video. I'm really picky with steelbooks. If I like the artwork and the price is good I will get. But prices are getting crazy I paided over 45 for new Ghostbusters frozen empire steelbook but think that the last one I do. Unless it's something I love. But can't think of anything that could come out that I would
I love to collect steelbooks if the art work on it is better than the standard release. I agree that the pricing is getting out of hand. I have a big issue paying 40+ for a steelbook and studios know if they only release the 4k on steelbook, they are gonna get it like the Inside Out 2 release. Bluray copy of Inside Out 2 goes for $25 but the 4K steelbook goes for $44 currently. I wish companies wouls give us a steelbook and standard release on every 4k release but they know if they keep it limited to 4K, youll buy it at their price. With pricing as it is, for new releases, i may even be fine with the bluray copy moving forward As a community, we need to show the studios that pricing your steelbook so high is not something we want
About 15 yrs ago I was very active in the TH-cam movie community. Had like 5k movies before selling it off before a move. There is definetely a fomo issue as I went thru my collection on how many movies I owned bc of the packaging or the hype. This past January after several long years I began re collecting physical media and made a promise to only buy what I can keep up with. So while I like being able to say “I need a copy of killer klowns” and I have options of a steelbook, slip, ultimate box set etc, but can definitely see people going into debt trying to keep up with all these releases wether it be from a boutique label or steelbook re lease at walmart
I agree, steelbooks are getting expensive and I think they’re doing it on purpose, blame “inflation” to squeeze customers more. What we should demand, “Show us your books!!!!” I bought the Drive steelbook (which is coming tomorrow), because Ken says it’s a good movie and the SB looks great, the price was too high but I justified it somehow it in my head. I want the Evil Dead one but I’m holding off but if it’s still for sale and close to Halloween I might buy it at it’s price. If I was buying it overseas I can understand the high cost but companies in America are just trying to screw us.
I just shared this post to a group. I get a tear in my eye when I see a cool steelbook of a film I don’t own for $19.99. I love physical media. I’m old school been collecting since DVD started. It’s really a tough spot to put this blame on steelbook because if we stop buying them studios might just stop rather than lower the price. But hopefully with lower sales the price can decrease without the lost all together.
I hate how steelbooks are getting very expensive, I definitely agree. As a Canadian we pay even more than the USA 🇺🇸 and we sometimes don’t get all the ones you guys get. Which is 😞 sad. I wish it would go back to the way it use to be. Great video Tim 😄
I've cut way back on the number of steelbooks I buy in the last year or so. The prices are certainly getting too high in my opinion. They have forced me to reconsider how important steelbooks are to me, and now I hardly get any. That Purple Rain steelbook was effin' awesome though! I had to have it.
I can talk for hours on this subject - what used to be a exclusive limited edition, is now becoming not so limited - I agree w/ the Funko comparison .. with all the steels being re-released with the exact same art as Best Buy’s exclusives, and 3 steels in the last year went for $70+ . Making it very hard for me to still want to have a complete U.S. Steelbook collection . Best Buy’s largest year for exclusive SteelBooks was 100 in 2023 , Walmart already has 100 exclusives and it’s only up to mid November - with many more yet to be announced to fill in the 4th quarter. Hopefully I can keep up 😂
I used to like them now they are a waste of money to me i realized i dont need it it just stays in my shelf and i dont look at it its same as a regular version just pilling up collecting dust untill i want to watch it again in 5 years
I personally have and never will see the appeal in steel books. I have one (dragons forever) and I only picked it up as it was cheaper than the standard blu ray (£8.99).
Oh yeah they definitely aren’t for everyone. It’s an added cost on top of the movie for special packaging. I get why there is people who don’t like them.
Yes I have noticed the prices on steel books like 19 not bad but exclusive limited editions steel books like 40 to 60 to 80 bucks yes I do go overboard Tim I’m obsessed with steel books
Not to offend you but I blame the you tubers steel books were under the radar until all the you tubers would run to the stores and buy everything just to post a video so of course prices would go high you cant even find anything at Walmart anymore
@@chrissoto6331 No offense here. I will say though steelbooks have been shown on TH-cam for as long as steelbooks have been around. It’s not new. It’s just different channels coming and going showing them. And this is more of a me thing, but I never jive with the whole TH-camrs idea. I’m just a guy showing my collection and what I enjoy as a hobby. I get basically nothing for it and it’s not a job. Anything I show is just because I enjoy it and not because there is a backend reason behind it.
I've never been a fan of steelbooks because back in the day they rusted on me. Granted I was in P.R. where it's hot and humid but still. I've bought some here in NY because there are no alternatives we'll see if this ones rust. But yeah the steelbooks prices have ridiculously gone up. Why? I don't know I only buy horror and now they're flooding the market with horror too!🤣
I’m a “want what I want” kind of collector. I only have “Daryl Dixon, I know what you did last summer, and The lair of the white worm. All of which were bought at my local Walmart.
Another “blame inflation” oh lord, stop blaming it on inflation, vote with your wallet if you think it’s to much idk how about don’t buy it it’s not like anyone needs steelbooks
I mean I did say pretty much all of that repeatedly in the video. Well aware nobody needs steelbooks and I specifically said that. Not sure if you skimmed the video but I said those exact words so you may have missed it.
$35-$40 is where I draw the line at, screw these $45-$65+ prices. I also base my decision on the artwork.
Getting wild out there for sure with the pricing I do like a good Steelbook. My issue is when the studios force me to buy a steel and give no other options. Nice video Timmah!

The high price of Evil Dead happened to me with The Strangers Chapter 1. With Walmart it's best to wait a few weeks to see if the price reduce.

I have the Alien 1979 4K steelbook! I paid I think $30 or $40 for it a few years ago. Now its worth $180 - $200!
I love to collect steelbooks if the art work on it is better than the standard release.

You're right, I wanted to start a collection, but the prices are crazy, not to mention the speculation.

Yeah and we also don't get the same deals as usa. We really have to really want it to get it with our canadian prices.

Over in the UK, Zavvi saturated the market , I shared your video, great subject 👍

I already felt $35 was too expensive. $60 is insane. I believe my Steelbook collecting days are behind me sadly.
I only get Steel books if they are on sale. Like I got Black Panther 2 for $10 because it was a Best Buy exclusive
You have massive potential collection of steel books
I’m one of those collectors from my hobby where I have over 50 + for steel book
I personally have and never will see the appeal in steel books. I have one (dragons forever) and I only picked it up as it was cheaper than the standard blu ray (£8.99).

Halloween trilogy is $66.26 point break $32.96.

I’m a “want what I want” kind of collector. I only have “Daryl Dixon, I know what you did last summer, and The lair of the white worm. All of which were bought at my local Walmart.
👍
Tbh I don’t even like steelbooks it’s so basic artwork imo and they scratch and break easy why bother just get the regular
