Recently used those prv 6x9’s on a harley street glide and the only way to get bass out of them is to have a external dsp and set the output param eq to 150 hz to get some solid bass out of em. Took me forever to figure this out. But like you said, the prv’s are a mid range 6x9. Sound quality is good on them, very clear. But if you want more of a mid bass sound coming from, might want to look at another speaker. They arent going to give you that solid mid bass sound that most 6x9’s produce. Great video!!

The issue I was seeing with those prv's is that they recommend a cross over at 500hz, which means they are designed solely for mids and you are going to be missing a lot of bass. PRV does make a "FR" Model that performs down to 80hz.

The Filter Cap Appears To Be Low Pass Filtering It Around 90Hz Except It Has A Weird Excursion Peak At 70Hz. I Compared The Sound With Cap And Sound Without Cap Set With A DSP With Same Low Pass Filter. With Cap It Sounds Very Narrow And Peaky Like A Megaphone. Without Cap And Low Passed The Same With DSP It Sounds So Much Fuller Up In The Higher Range. The Speaker Full Range Without Cap / DSP Can Play Pretty Much Like Any Door Speakers Down Low If You Want A Little Bass But The Power Handling Is Going To Go Way Down Since Excursion Will Get Out Of Hand. I Ended Up Removing Cap On The Speakers (very easy to do) And Ran It On My Previous Passive Crossover That Low Passes Around 40Hz. I Then Set My DSP To Low Pass At 100Hz With 24Db/Octave. They Are Mounted In Rear Deck So Infinite Baffle. I Listened To Them Full Range First And They Do Play As Low As 30Hz With Ok Output, There Was A Dead Sone Around 50Hz-80Hz And Then They Really Got Loud In Terms Of Bass Around 110-120Hz. That's When I Decided To DSP Them Around 100Hz Low Pass. They Get Very Loud And Stay Remarkably Clear At Very High Volume. Infinite Baffle Excursion Seems To Stay Fairly Stable When Low Passed Around 100Hz. So You Can Make Them Do What You Want, I Bet A DS18 Would Get Just As Loud If It Was Slapped With The Same Cap So That Power Would Be More Focused For MR Output.

On my softail deluxe I have 4 of these prvs 6x9s in the bags, and 2 of the 6.5 neos up front. and I am beyond happy with them. But the ds18’s having tweeters I’m thinking about giving them a try and switching everything out. It’s just makes it easier then trying to install tweeters in areas and having separate amps.
I kept blowing every 6x9 I bought I'm running a skar audio 150.4 on my mids and highs my Orion's 6.5 are 250rms and my rear deck 8inch are 500rms but ds18 is a very good brand I'm using there bullet tweeters

I got the pro in my Camry 4 of them with 1000 watt amp and they sound super good those prv are joust mid range the ds18 is coaxial speaker two total different speakers u need tweeters and subs . DNT get me wrong u also need subs with the ds18 but not as much as the prv tht DNT produce no mid bass at all
I Considered The DS18 But I Already Have A Passive Crossover Set Up With A Remote Mounted Tweeter So The Cross Over Would Silence The Tweeter On The DS18. I Also Noticed The PRV Has A Filter Cap On It. Can You Run That On A Passive Crossover Or Do You Need To Remove It?
They're midrange speakers. Not midbass. There's a difference - if you want 80hz out of a speaker you need to a)not get a "pro audio midrange" and b) it needs the rubber rollover surround because they will actually move. The pro audio stuff is maybe 300% louder though, that's the trade off.

I have a different brand but they're very poor performers at mid bass (100-500 give or take). 500-5000 they are unbeatable in clarity and volume though. I've gotten used to no mid bass but I'm thinking about changing to the kappa perfect now that they release a 6x9 component. A year ago seems like a long time but then again, I seem to change something about every year or so
No i dont, this speakers come with a capacitor already installed, and Iam using Audiopipe CRX-203 2 Way crossovers as well there running in parallel with my super tweeters in dash, i can crank these to max without a hint of distortion, there being powered thru a 4 channel amp which iam also powering a set of PRV 6.5s along with a pair of super tweeters in rear side panel in parallel as well using same crossovers...def. glad i went with these
I installed in my camaro 4 ,,6.5 ds18 speakers with a good amplifier,,i didn't like it so i try the same but using prv and nope just not for me,, so i decide to use an 4 ways 6.5 pioneers speakers and im pretty happy with them ,sounds really good with all cain of music,but i definitely now this brands are monsters of the sound i just probably not ready for them 🤷♂️
if you just slap it on, it'll sound like shit because you literally need to go active network crossover mode and know how to tune it with a DSP to get proper sound. Which involves choosing a crossover points between mid and tweet and slope in order to get a proper blend between midrange and tweeters along with having a subwoofer to cover the low end.

No 6x9 will have good bass in those tiny box's. Install in auto in rear deck or doors like they are meant to be mounted. They will sound like a totally different set of speakers.

Those boxes make a bassy 6x9 sound like an 8 inch sub.. these are midrange midbass competition speakers they dont pick up bass u dont know what ur talking about
You know what during the pro vs Ds18 test the louder you went up in volume the better the PRV sounded; I think it’s gonna depend on the whole set up to pick which one works for you

You probably clipped the signal and blew them. 150w is nothing to P.A 6x9
I set my amp with a dd-1 so there was no clipping
The last 6x9s I used before switching to the 8s were the jbl gto 939s rated a 100rms each
Hertz 6x9 you won’t blow those for sure
And the ds118 got a better 6x9 then the pro is the exl-sq 6x9
