Something I never understood about car audio is the lack of having cabinets for some of the speakers. Like rear 6x9's or other door speakers work without having a box. I would think that would take from the sound and lows that the speakers are producing.
Car speakers are often designed without enclosures because they are typically installed in doors, dashboards, or rear decks where the vehicle's body panels serve as the enclosure. This approach, known as "infinite baffle" or "free air" design, uses the available space in the vehicle to manage sound waves and air pressure. Here are a few reasons why enclosures aren't typically used in car speakers: 1. Space Constraints: The limited space in vehicles makes it difficult to install large speaker enclosures. The doors, dashboards, and rear decks act as mounting locations, and manufacturers optimize the speaker designs for these spaces. 2. Cost Efficiency: Adding enclosures would increase manufacturing costs and complexity. By designing speakers to work with the car's natural acoustics, manufacturers can save on material and installation costs. 3. Integration with Car Design: Cars are designed with pre-installed speaker locations that fit within the vehicle's body, ensuring a clean and seamless look. Speakers are often engineered to work within these spaces, taking advantage of the car's structure to amplify sound. 4. Use of Existing Car Panels: The car's door panels and other surfaces act as barriers to separate the front and rear sound waves, preventing cancellation. This minimizes the need for additional enclosures. For high-end or custom audio systems, some enthusiasts may choose to add enclosures to improve sound quality, but for most car speakers, the vehicle’s structure is sufficient.

Heck yeah! Cheap speaker shootout time! Being out of the budget door speaker market for a bit, I didn't know there was stuff made for this price point, even by the big boys. I ordered a head unit from CarToyz and they threw in a free pair of Alpine coax 6.5" speakers. I opened the box and was looking at the cheapest-looking speakers ever. I may have downgraded by swapping 'em for the stock units in my work truck. But hey, they were free, so...
Scar all the way💪 I’ve been running the 5.25 coaxial speakers and the 6x9 coaxial and was a huge upgrade. Just always been a scar guy. That and cheaper yet somewhat better or same as CT sounds. The prices are always a big thing to me. So when something dosent cost a lot yet sounds good and lasts is what I always look for
Try finding door speakers in 2 ohms. I can only find 4. The reason 2 ohms would be important is if you keeping your factory head unit as many of them run at 2 ohms. I am dealing with this now as I am using the factory JBL amp for the highs in a 2007 Lexus. The GTO's I put in it are very quiet. I found a set of 2 ohm GX's and the volume and bass along with the quality was drastically improved. I mention this cuz with so newer cars radios being integrated in to everything makes what you can do very limited with out spending a fortune. Guys like you can push the industry to produce more 2 ohm door speakers. The DS has 2 ohm but its the guitar type mid range. Only powerbase and JBL seem to make a traditional 2 or 3 way 2 ohm door speaker that I am aware of.
@BentonL- Check out infinity reference speakers, especially the components, they sound really good, and are 3 ohms, + the 6.5s have a 93Db eff. They sound great, & are loud on low power.
Audiocontrol's line of speakers are 2ohm capable and PowerBass offers both 4ohm and 2ohm variations of OE replacements. There are others that have done this as well for OEM integration.
@@HueJass-83 I seen those but like Pyle, dual, and Pyramid I would avoid at all cost, and felt they were not worth mentioning. I dont count junk as an option. Audio Control I have no experience with.
@BentonL totally understand avoiding lower end products. For anyone trying to utilize factory amplification, powerbass is more than adequate. The audiocontrol speakers would be more suited for the next step and adding an aftermarket amplifier.
@ParkerTheBassHead- Great video. I think a lot of us would ❤️ to see a test of under $100 per pair of 6.5" coaxials. I would like to see how the new Down4sound, JPFX65s would perform, among other's in that price range.
This is a great video, and although they sound terrible. I didn't think that Skar Audio was gonna last that long. I would never do this test on my dynaudio mw172 but its fun to watch these cheap ones pop
The Skar speaker had the best range of sound, the rest sounded muffled in comparison. I have the TX series in all my vehicles, I plan on getting the SPX series in my main car soon!
I realize this is severely and extremely subjective, technical issues aside, I liked the sound in this order: 1. CT Sounds. 2. Avatar. 3. DS-18. 4. Skar.
Interestingly enough, I liked them in the opposite order. For what I would have the speaker do, the Skar seemed like it performed the best. The tone is just going to get adjusted via DSP anyways but I like how the Skar and DS18 sounded more efficient in the higher frequencies. That said, I have a set of CT sounds in one of my cars. The other has JBL.
I agree with dlcarb and carlos. Skar, DS, Avatar, and CT was my ranking. Way too much midrange in the CT Sounds. Great for voice and podcasts, terrible for music.
There could be a bit of a flaw in your sound tests. The speakers on the left have a benefit of having a wall next to it where it gets better bass being essentially in a corner.
I’m looking for some smooth nice sounding 6 x 9 speakers. I don’t really mind if it doesn’t have that much bass just need something that sounds smooth and loud
I think I would choose the CT sounds just because I believe that it was more bassier, that being said I really like that the skar was a little more pronounced with the crispness of it's high's. Tie between the two honestly I'm a basshead, but for the sake of balance and clarity I would like the skar in my car as well.
Even though the amp went on you how did you feel about it? Was it worth the money in your opinion, and how much power did each channel give? I’m look to get a new 4ch amp. I need around 100w a ch to power my doors. I have a 3way in the front and 2way in the rear doors. They’re rated at 125w for the front and 95w rear so I figured that 100w a channel would be more than adequate. Awesome work as usual dude. It’s nice to see you moving into more areas of car audio than just subs and bass. We all love that but also wanna see the full spectrum of it. Keep bass in on dude
Nice but the $35 6 1/2" Resilient Sounds loudspeaker with a 98 DB rating is way louder than any 2 of those cheap speakers. I run 2 of them in my doors and you can hear them far away ✔️it out 👍
nice test man! curious though, i always blow the tweeters on coaxials. somehow testing to see which tweeters last the longest? also you might consider using a sweep that drops to like 60 and shoots up and back down again. i dono how practical that is. overall your method is sound though. and repeatable. heres a tip though, MAYBE try running a resistor inline with each speaker, so when it blows, it dont make a dead short
The best pair of speakers for $50 is a used pair of Infinity's, with silk dome tweeters, rubber surrounds and they are between 2 and 3 ohms depending on which models you buy, so you pull more power from your head unit! 🍺 Oh! And they sound twice as good as any of that garbage you have on the table..👌
I want a video where you test the defbounce Sylvester 6.5 and the Arnold's6.5 at rated power and max power The only videos I could find were using the same watts foe both and usually say the Silvestre is better but they don't tell the fact the arnold need more power I feel like you would be the perfect person to make a great video comparing them
I had DS18 components in my previous truck. Didn’t really care for them. I’m currently using Cerwin Vega XED components. They’re about $40 a pair and I’m pretty happy with them.
I'm really upset I didn't get the six by nine and six and a half avatars... But I got the Infinity reference 6.5 in the avatars are 6x9 they are so clear in my opinion there really good if you're running stock and want to change I highly suggest getting some speakers from Avatar. The clarity on my 6x9 are flawless they are extremely underrated !!!!
I guess I'm becoming a Skar fan. I don't know what mic/sound recorder you used, but using fairly high-end over-the-ear headphones through TH-cam's compression the Skar sounded by far better than the others on the close-up test, bass, mid, treble, musicality... everything. It was the only one that didn't sound obviously deficient in something. As you moved away they evened out, but let's face it, the reality is that in almost any vehicle you'll be at between the closest and second closest distance, even something massive like my Fleetwood, and you'll get cabin gain which will make it sound closer. There wasn't a good second place. The others all had strange mechanical sounds in their mid-bass and the highs seemed kind of pitchy on all of them. I'm curious how you rate them since you were there. I don't know how your recording equipment and TH-cam's compression affected the results, but they should have all been affected the same way. There's another review channel that considers the Crunch in the same price range the best in the range/size, and the only other that they didn't complain about was the similar JBL so I got both of those and I have a set of the Pioneer TS-Gs. I'm not too fond of the crunch, both out of the pair sound like the tweeters don't work, the JBL is OK, it would make an OK rear speaker, but the Pioneer is the only one that has good mid/high response, the only one that would give you any sound stage as a front speaker
Based on your close/far range test setups, the CT Sounds would be my #1 pick. Plays a little lower than the Skar and sounds smoother and flatter from 3kHz on up. #2 Skar - sounds good but the aluminum dome tweeter is a bit too hot for my taste. #3 Avatar - neutral but a little muddy. #4 DS18 - not enough midbass and midrange.
my pick as far as SQ which is what i mainly go for is the skar followed very close by ds 18 then ct sounds, then avatar, i always been a fan of kicker ds line and ive tried a few pioneer but next i might try alpine or maybe skar next time i get speakers, i have alpine type s 12s now also.
Have to wonder how many blown amps you have? could make for a good video on sending them all out for repair to different shops to see how long they take and how well the customer service is provided
All sound very similar. But using samsung buds 2 pro, CT Sounds sounds the best imo. I've got a CT Sounds Bio 12 I swapped out of my home subwoofer and it gets down! 🤷♂️
In my opinion (just like your chocolate puckerball, everyone has one) From a SQ standpoint - Skar, then the DS would be the only two I would consider. Where neither were perfect, Skar had the right mix of clarity; albeit with a bit of brightness in the high end
I'm definitely not a big DS18 fan. I thought the avatar would've done a lil better, but I've been a CT fan since the older days and Coleman (God rest his soul). Thought the CT sounded dynamically fuller than the SKAR.
I’m not a skar fan boy but it sounded pretty good imo Try the machete mm60 and the Shca el65 and the d4s sfx 65 and nvx nsp65 i am debating to stuff 4 or 8 pairs in my new set up 🥴

Some good content in this video. Looks like you might be testing more 4-ch amps now too. lol Thanks Parker!
Cadence XM6(44*)Vi is a d4 that is a great one to consider. The 44 version d4 may be difficult to find availability on. Good luck to ya
Nice to see your doing so well and testing speakers and just not subs.
I'm trying to get my Ryker Rally some sound what speakers should I get
I love my AP-M67ACs from deaf bonce, definitely more then 50$ but DEFINITELY worth it!!!
Custom Speak Pods are nice. I have two 6 1/5 and a bullet tweeter in each door using Custom Speaker Pods.
Ds18 by far the best sound out of them all. Just my opinion
The Skar speaker had the best range of sound, the rest sounded muffled in comparison. I have the TX series in all my vehicles, I plan on getting the SPX series in my main car soon!
Excellent demo!!💯
PLEASE do a video shoot out with 3-way component Speakers if you havent done so already
I realize this is severely and extremely subjective, technical issues aside, I liked the sound in this order: 1. CT Sounds. 2. Avatar. 3. DS-18. 4. Skar.
Several other comments have said the same!
@@dlcarburetorthis is exactly what I was thinking
I agree with dlcarb and carlos. Skar, DS, Avatar, and CT was my ranking. Way too much midrange in the CT Sounds. Great for voice and podcasts, terrible for music.
There could be a bit of a flaw in your sound tests. The speakers on the left have a benefit of having a wall next to it where it gets better bass being essentially in a corner.
I’m looking for some smooth nice sounding 6 x 9 speakers. I don’t really mind if it doesn’t have that much bass just need something that sounds smooth and loud
I would like to see these vs sony, jvc, Kenwood, pioneer, maybe even JL.
When are you gonna review the sundown nsv6??? Also if you do you should do a 12inch!!
Thermal camera would be fun on this test
Btw thanks for the video Parker you rock brah!!
Thank you man! 🔊
Nice but the $35 6 1/2" Resilient Sounds loudspeaker with a 98 DB rating is way louder than any 2 of those cheap speakers. I run 2 of them in my doors and you can hear them far away ✔️it out 👍
Now this is knowledge thanks Parker.

Like to see some nvx sub an speakers ,shit even any nvx amp dynos
Hmm haven’t done any NVX in a long time! Might have to see what they have these days
I would live to see you do the vcw 15s
CT Sounds doesn't give stickers with the bio series. I'm running the 4x6s and the 5.25 bio series in my budget build.
nice test man! curious though, i always blow the tweeters on coaxials. somehow testing to see which tweeters last the longest? also you might consider using a sweep that drops to like 60 and shoots up and back down again. i dono how practical that is. overall your method is sound though. and repeatable. heres a tip though, MAYBE try running a resistor inline with each speaker, so when it blows, it dont make a dead short
I had a prv setup and they worked great
i liked the
CT SOUNDS
and AVATAR XBR
The best pair of speakers for $50 is a used pair of Infinity's, with silk dome tweeters, rubber surrounds and they are between 2 and 3 ohms depending on which models you buy, so you pull more power from your head unit! 🍺
Oh! And they sound twice as good as any of that garbage you have on the table..👌
I want a video where you test the defbounce Sylvester 6.5 and the Arnold's6.5 at rated power and max power
The only videos I could find were using the same watts foe both and usually say the Silvestre is better but they don't tell the fact the arnold need more power
I feel like you would be the perfect person to make a great video comparing them
I had DS18 components in my previous truck. Didn’t really care for them. I’m currently using Cerwin Vega XED components. They’re about $40 a pair and I’m pretty happy with them.
I had ds 18 speakers before I didn't like them. Now I run ri audio and I like them
Great video keep this content coming
Yessir thank you!
Parker in your opinion which are better if I’m building a rack Arnold’s or Sylvester’s?
I suggest you test the Recoil speakers-they’re incredibly loud.
Neos of each brand ik its an exspensive side of it but would rlly love to knoww 💯
I run the Orion cm65 there amazing I run them around 200-300rms and the price per set is around $65
#4 DS18 - not enough midbass and midrange.
my pick as far as SQ which is what i mainly go for is the skar followed very close by ds 18 then ct sounds, then avatar, i always been a fan of kicker ds line and ive tried a few pioneer but next i might try alpine or maybe skar next time i get speakers, i have alpine type s 12s now also.
just wanted to add, my pick is just based on the video here, i know real life is way different then video.
can you use an infrared thermometer to see what temps the motors are running at?
I went with alpine type s they were $60 a piece sounds great
Have to wonder how many blown amps you have? could make for a good video on sending them all out for repair to different shops to see how long they take and how well the customer service is provided
Not a bad idea!
check out the cerwin vega 6.5 components... they are like 35 a set and make some noise when powered by a 400 watt amp
Maybe I’ll do a Component comparison next!
All sound very similar. But using samsung buds 2 pro, CT Sounds sounds the best imo. I've got a CT Sounds Bio 12 I swapped out of my home subwoofer and it gets down! 🤷♂️
What are the best loudest?Best quality sound six inch door speakers you can get
I know they not components but Have you tried the resilient sounds door speakers for the price I’m really liking them
Need to test Polk and JBL.
Prv speakers are really good depending on model but I got the bullet one and can’t lie they loud and clear asf for my ek hatch
Recoil components didn’t make the list?
In my opinion (just like your chocolate puckerball, everyone has one) From a SQ standpoint - Skar, then the DS would be the only two I would consider. Where neither were perfect, Skar had the right mix of clarity; albeit with a bit of brightness in the high end
Are U planning on doing a video on mid bass speakers or 6x9 speakers?
Yessir!
Can you make a video on how you tune your deaf bounce apocalypse amps please
I do actuality like the Skar.
@@chrisnunya7171 I have these two in my truck and they have hehe up for 3 years now.
I'm definitely not a big DS18 fan. I thought the avatar would've done a lil better, but I've been a CT fan since the older days and Coleman (God rest his soul). Thought the CT sounded dynamically fuller than the SKAR.
Great job parker
Normally a ct and ds fan, but going by price and listed wattage I have to admit that skar seems to be winner with avatar 2nd just due to price.
I’m not a skar fan boy but it sounded pretty good imo
Try the machete mm60 and the Shca el65 and the d4s sfx 65 and nvx nsp65 i am debating to stuff 4 or 8 pairs in my new set up 🥴
