To be honest, I think that it hilariously common, Percy being stuck in a trap that he obliviously walked into a trap, starts panicking and Annabeth or Grover are on the side having to help him escape. Also her being fascinated by the contraption and watching how it works, and she kind of zones out until Percy is like, "Hey!! You made a big thing about one of us dying, so how do I get out??!!!"
Annabeth and Percy with tears in their eyes trying to express to each other that they are willing to sacrifice themselves for the other. And being awkward kids. The trust between them is heart wrenching but also heartwarming
But out of all the gods, he would know what it feels like, which is why I loved him being in here so early. Especially because he's the only disabled god.
I love love love how annabeth just let percy talk when he's talking about the throne. I feel like Annabeth already know the story about the throne Hephaestus build, but she let Percy explain. And the "I'm okay" scene made me cry. The first 2 "I'm okay" was percy reassuring annabeth. But the last "I'm okay" he was reassuring himself, because we know he was scared deep down.
The moment the song played on the tunnel of love I was laughing so hard because its definitely not random. Its: A) hinting a development between Annabeth and Percy and honestly shows that budding potential of them having a relationship (which I kinda pointed out in the books after analyzing it for a bit) B) THE AWKWARD PRE TEEN CRUSHES/ SLOW BURN/ YEARNING IS SOMETHING I LIVE FOR C) its a song that exactly mirrors what Hephaestus felt towards his family. My jaw dropped at realizing the layers they put on the script. Taken a song to completely different context
I believe that Grover's guess is gonna be a red herring for new viewers. I think he's gonna say he thinks Clarisse did it. Because of how suspicious Ares acted. And yes while I agree Ares isn't the smartest god. He does have a bit of cleverness. He was hoping to get rid of Percy or Annabeth or both with this quest. In order to get the war to not have anything stand in the way. He wants a daughter of Athena gone because one he hates Athena, and two Annabeth being so smart might put two and two together and stop his plans. He wants Percy gone because then Posidon will be mad at him and Zeus. And he can get Zeus' approval for "taking care of the lightning thief" for Zeus. And if both die he just has Grover to deal with and in his eyes satyr aren't a threat. Which is his downfall this episode lol.
It's interesting how Annabeth mentions never having seen any movie, because one of the Heroes of Olympus books (I don't remember which) says that she saw Roman Holiday with her dad, and it was one of few good memories she had with him.
I don’t remember this part but if it was in heroes of Olympus she might’ve watched it with her dad after the lightning thief. Because she goes home with her dad after the Lightning thief. But idk probably also bc they’re changing stuff for the show. Honestly I doubt even Rick remembers that especially since there are inconsistencies in the books. But that’s an interesting observation I never even thought of that.
It was in Rome, when Tiberinus and Rhea came to get Annabeth for the mark of Athena quest, they looked like the stars of the movie, Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn
Am I the only one who was so stoked to hear them mention celestial bronze?? Not really that important but it’s always been something I found cool so I’m glad they mentioned it
We never lose!!! This show has been so great i love how they are foreshadowing so many things from other books and that makes me so happy and excited❤, give walker and leah all the awards please🙏
You are not the only one who wanted to give Hephaestos a hug. I've grown really fond of him in these few minutes, too. I've always felt like he, Hestia, and Artemis are the three gods who actually have some heart.
Honestly Walker and Leah kinda amped up their acting in this episode. In short, I was shoving my fist in my mouth in all of their scenes because it was A LOT(in a good way, so much angst AND THEY ACTED THEIR SHIT IN THIS) I admit for the past eps it was only starting to grow in on me and Im like: why is everybody already shipping them this early(i mean we know theyre canon like this 🤞🤞 but if you'd adapt the show you'd also wanna want to see it with fresh eyes and kinda start over so I started to freak out about that) and when I finally get to see this scene that Im excited about (because its one of the main Percabeth origin moments in the book) I was elated and its finally happening I wasn't expecting it to be super intense. Props to both of them honestly
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO SAYS PERKABETH!! Also side-note i cant wait for the next season to have Percy literally have a photo of Annabeth everywhere he goes or when Annabeth is crying to Percy and he holds her and tells the school of fish too scram
Hephaestus is probably the only god that would be able to change his mind because of Annabeth’s monologue. The way the writers showed us his story first is why we can believe his change. Bc of how he was/is treated by his family. He wants them to change too. Just beautiful writing from the setup to the execution of it. I just want to gush over this for the next week. The acting was so good.
I know this is such a small thing but I can't get over the way you pronounce percabeth 😂. like I get it with the whole grammar rules thing but I like to say that doesn't apply to things like ships and also Rick pronounces it as per-sa-beth too so that's what I trust lol
After this episode, my wife finished her first time reading the first two books and is on book 3, and I was like “dang that was cute, especially the tunnel scene” cause we were vibin to the music and she said “yeah I like it, do people ship Percy and annabeth? I’m not getting vibes whatsoever that they’re into each other”… who’s gonna tell her?
I LOVED THIS EPISODE. the trio was phenomenal. but i hope grover doesn't say it's luke. having that come out of absolutely no where was the best part of it.
I think Grover is gonna blame Clarisse. If he suspects a demigod did it at the winter solstice, and he is sus of Ares, it would make sense for him to think one of his kids did it.
idk why but hephaestus gives me the cat from arcane vibes alongside kooky mad scientist and i love him for it - and also percy giving the whole "fuck around and find out" energy lol
In the books grover knew about gabe and why sally marry him and he tells percy, in the show he still doesnt know that so hopefully sally tells him later on? Also i need a flashback of the winter solstice and how you know who stole the bolt
I'm curious what your guesses for episode 6 are. Who do you think Grover thinks stole the lightning bolt? My guess is he thinks it was Clarisse who did it to rise in her dad's favor. I can't imagine he'll make tje right guess so long before the finale. Also, who do you guess is "Hermes' personal driver" who can take the trio to Santa Monica in minutes? I have two suspicions which both don't make 100% sense: One is Blackjack because he is seen in the Las Vegas still image during the credits along with Hermes, a roulette, and the lotus flower. However, Blacljack is a flyer, not a driver. My other guess would be the Weird Sisters in their taxi, the ones who share 1 eye and 1 tooth among themselves. They could definitely make the distance in a minute, but stricktly speaking, that's driverS as in plural, not a personal, singular driver, so I'm not sure here, either. What are your thoughts?
On the truck the writing is Kindness International. And Aries is the one who show them the truck. I find this funnier than i should. Leah's acting was incredible in this episode. Also: i watched the episode on a bus, after on exam, and i barely burst out of laughing because of the what is love... scene. Whoever responsible for it is a genius. ❤
If they do have Grover namedrop Luke, literally every single social media site will crash at the same time from the sheer sudden amount of hate at the episode
I'm slow so can someone please explain; IIRC, in the book, the idea to give Percy the backpack with the bolt in it was Ares' (Kronos') idea. But in the show Grover tells Ares that Percy didn't steal the bolt but Zeus thinks he did so what does it matter. So, what is his goal? I know he's trying to manipulate Ares into telling him who the actual thief is but also it seems like it's him who gives Ares the idea to give Percy the bolt. Which doesn't even make sense bc that was the goal from the beginning? Idk I'm so confused.
I reeeally hope they do great choreography for the Percy Ares fight, I like the way they did the Percy/Clarisse fight but I felt like they did too many cuts with that, like let more than 1 action during the fight take place before changing the camera angle plzzz. Also OMG Jon as Ares would've been SO good too!
Am I the only one that dislikes episode because it didn’t show Annabeth being scared of metal spiders?! That’s so important for a character when are they gonna include it? Next when they meet Hephaestus for the second time in the show in the third season when they got led to him by a middle spider aka in the third book?
This entire show is exposition given by actors with no chemistry who think shrugging your shoulders and squinting your eyes when you give lines is personality.
I don’t like annabeth being the one to see the fates at all, in the books percy sees the fates snip the string at the very beginning of the story before he knows what it means. The fact that its at the beginning and mysterious makes it so much more ominous and unsettling. It worked better when the scene was used to show the impending doom and to be foreshadowing that we can only understand in hindsight. The way they did in the show changes the serires thematically. And i can already see annabeth getting the hermione treatment (where she is made to be flawless and the all of the stand out/intellegent moments of the other characters in the books are instead given to her in the movie) annabeth is the one giving ares attitude when in the books it was percy. She’s the one who sees the fates when in the books it was percy. She’s the one who figures out its medusa when in the books it was grover. She’s completely fearless as her arachnophobia is cut from the story. Grover has a fear of failure. He’s on this quest to prove that he can succeed and get his searcher’s license. This is never mentioned in the show. In the books annabeth wants to prove herself so she volunteers for this quest (she doesn’t get picked like in the show) she’s not “6 steps ahead” she makes mistakes and has her own fears. In this show she figures out everything. The characterizations and characters development is off. Following the basic outline of the book is not a direct adaptation and it is not book accurate. Following the basic outline could have been perfectly fine except thats not at all what we were promised. Rick and disney marketed this show as the book accurate adaptation we have all been waiting for. And that is simply not what this show is.
I am so glad that most of the book fans have come to accept the fact that manuscript writing is so different from screenplay writing, especially so when in a writer's room, there are more than 1 writer, where they all had to agree to the screenplay. All our sentiments are valid, but we also need to determine if such sentiments are mere nitpicks or downright unreasonable.
Maybe I can convince you that things aren't as bad as you think they are. The fates showing themselves to Annabeth cutting the thread just makes more sense, plain and simple. We know that it was Luke's thread being cut so why would the fates show it to Percy before he'd even heard of Luke? It was to set up a sense of doom, yes. But it was also pretty much unnecessary. It isn't really ever brought up again until Luke has died. Luke being one of the most important people in Annabeth's life higlights the tragedy of his betrayal of Annabeth. She was the one who figured out how Luke would die in his last moments after all. The thread being cut in front of her might also help her to realize what the prophecy means in the last season of the show. And no, it doesn't change anything thematically. It's just something that makes more sense. I don't know why exactly they chose to change it so that Annabeth is the one giving Ares attitude from the start. But Percy still got his moment in the end. I also don't get how you interpret this as an attempt to make Annabeth flawless. It's clearly dangerous to talk smack to a god's face, Ares in particular. To me it presented more like Annabeth's fatal flaw of hubris showing up when getting riled up by Ares' aura that makes people angry. Just because we didn't get Annabeth's arachnophobia in this episode, it *does not* mean that it will never come up... Just calm down and wait for 5 minutes like Cam said in this video. You haven't listened to Grover's dialogue I guess. Him wanting to prove himself to get the searcher's license hasn't been mentioned out loud yet, true. Though you might want to rewatch that train scene in episode 4. (And you might just have to wait 5 minutes with this one too) But he's clearly been shown to be insecure about failing to proteect Thalia and being upset about what happened to Sally on his watch. There's a reason why he wanted to talk to Percy about it right after he first woke up at camp, wanted to tell Percy about his mom being alive and didn't tell Percy that he was the satyr protector for Thalia, Luke and Annabeth when telling Thalia's story. He's shown feeling guilt and insecurity about all those things even if it has been subtextual thus far. Percy choosing Annabeth worked well to start off the development of their relationship. As it has been explained 3 times in the show already, he didn't hesitate with the choice because he thought Annabeth could be logical and ruthless and he wouldn't have to worry about Annabeth being the one the Oracle said would betray him. This change has only worked in the story's favor so far. We've gotten so much well executed drama about that decision already and it's brought them closer as characters. Annabeth figured out Aunty M is Medusa because it is *o b v i o u s.* The biggest problem with the books was about how clueless the characters were whenever they encountered monsters in disguise. Like it was stated in ep 3, "Aunty M's Garden Gnome Emproium" is not subtle. At all. Could it have been Grover who said it first? Sure. But there has been no actual negative impact from that change. The Medusa episode was only better because of it with the parallels from myth to the dynamic Annabeth and Percy had or could have had with Medusa. And this episode gave Grover his own big brain moment that we didn't get in the books. So nothing has been actually taken away from him in that sense. Luke might just be hyperbolic when he says "6 steps ahead." I agree that 6 seems like an unreasonably big number if it's meant earnestly. He might jsut be a bit of an Annabeth fanboy. In conclusion: the characherizations and character development is not "off", it's just different from the books with the details. And in my opinion they've been executed stronger with the benefit of hindisght. Book accuracy does not mean every line is lifted straight from the book, every scene playing out the exact same way. Why would you even need an adaptation if that's what you want? That's what you have the books for. A good book accurate adaptation keeps the core elements: themes, characters and plot. It may lift some lines straight from the pages but also gives the material a fresh spin. Adding different emphasis on different thematic elements that were present in the source material but weren't necessarily as developed, exploring different nuances of the characters, giving them lines that sound like they could very well be from the books but are still original. Keeping the same vibes, matching the energy as the kids these days say. This show has done all that brilliantly.
What was your favorite part of episode 5???
I absolutely loved when what is love came on in the tunnel of love
Percabeth hug and all of their acting. Also the whole tunnel of love scene was amazing! Casting is perfect!
When Percy told Ares fuck around and find out
Annabeth and Percy with tears in their eyes trying to express to each other that they are willing to sacrifice themselves for the other. And being awkward kids. The trust between them is heart wrenching but also heartwarming
Poker Face in the Casino walked so What is Love in the Tunnel of Love could run.
But out of all the gods, he would know what it feels like, which is why I loved him being in here so early. Especially because he's the only disabled god.

Timothy was such a polar opposite to his role in Supernatural & I love it!

This episode was GREAT! I loved it.
I respectfully disagree; PJO fans have known what it is like to lose (adaptations most infamously), which is why this show is such a win
Was thinking this

Love Grover ❤️

Maybe hermes's driver is charon
your videos are like my favourite!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻 I LOVE your reactions 😂

DETECTIVE PERCY💙IS ON THE JOB!
HE HAS ABOUT ONE BRAIN CELL
(BUT HE'S STILL ON IT)😂😂😂
These videos are so so good
Another great video love your videos keep on going strong
5:19 Percy got that godly rizz 😏

I'm praying they greenlight S2 soon cuz Walker & Leah are aging SO FAST!
Oh I was picturing it Percebeth. Percabeth does make more sense though.
We International fans always said perKabeth , NEVER perssabeth 😅 im on your side
So sorry about your money, hope you get it back🤞
am i allowed to say it's bad
This entire show is exposition given by actors with no chemistry who think shrugging your shoulders and squinting your eyes when you give lines is personality.
I don’t like annabeth being the one to see the fates at all, in the books percy sees the fates snip the string at the very beginning of the story before he knows what it means. Maybe I can convince you that things aren't as bad as you think they are.
The fates showing themselves to Annabeth cutting the thread just makes more sense, plain and simple.
@@Edward-W I agree with everything 100%. Very well said!
