Mephi wanting to surpass Asmo with his own power is so similar to Vegeta and Goku. I think Vegeta has actually saved Goku’s life and said something like, “The only one who will kill Kakarot is me!”
The way I see it Asmodeus is Megatron and Mephistopheles is Starscream, down to the treacherous right hand man being vocal about his ambitions and the main villain thinking that the traitor is too useful to be disposed of.
Hell yeah Vegeta of DND has finally been given the spotlight what an awesome NPC and character to use in your games. The game I am running had one of my players be a warlock who served Mephistopholes after he saved her by turning her into a warforged to save her from an illness he himself placed upon her it was glorious. Now she is free though and he doesn't let people who wronged him get off the hook that easily. Thanks for your continous work guys, I always look forward to your new releases.
I miss you guys... I know it hasn't been that long but it feels like it. Not sure if this channel is still monitored but hope you both are doing well. Shout out to Demogorgon.
In Pathfinder, there is something called Hellfire Ray if I remember correctly. Also, in D&D there is at least in NWN 2 a Hellfire pact Warlock which has access to the hellfire blast. It is a ranged touch spelllike ability of unlimited use. It deals moderate damage.
20:45 On that note. "The Sacred Flame is a mystical, interdimensional source of energy considered important by all the non-evil gods, although it is associated with no one god specifically... half of the damage is divine power rather than simply fire, so even creatures resistant or immune to fire take that damage." - Dragon Magazine 283 "The Abyssal version of hellfire... Blackflame: Your spells and spell-like abilities and magic item abilities... deal half fire damage and half vile damage." - Dragon Magazine 357
This was well organized and a great resource for lore! I can’t wait for y’all to do one on the 10th lord of the nine hells… Gargauth! Oh dang, someone already suggested that… ummm… never mind… do their suggestion instead!
Im a dm and between you guys and a few others, its helped so much of my knowledge and lore to prep for games and areas, especially the mindset of all the creatures and races. I appreciate all what you guys do especially cause its always a fun listen and the best part make it understandable and relatable
Looking forward to a Moloch or Geryon, if they are on the card 🙂 Would also be interested to hear how you would rank the Arch Dukes in terms of power. Praise Zariel 🤟
I am in fact, in KS. It was quite nice to be remembered for once (directed more generally at people always forgetting, not y'all specifically). My partner and I both enjoy your show quite a lot, especially because it feels like you want your players to be involved with the story and have a reasonable say. It can be seen in the way y'all interact, that you both encourage each other's ideas and expound upon them. We also both appreciate your occasional political tones, as they align quite closely with our own. By the way, thank you for saying something about voting this past election. Both myself and my partner are from marginalized groups, and it means quite a bit to hear people advocating to make sure people like us aren't more marginalized. We would sub to patreon if we could, but, we are disabled and without many funds. But if we had them, you guys would be high up on the list of those we'd want to give to
A bad version of Bruce Banner is featured in “Old Man Logan.” He’s a cannibalistic, incestuous warlord who kills Logan’s family just because he wants to fight the Wolverine again.
"I listen to your show to get prepped." Yeah, that. I'm listening to all the nine hells episodes so my one devil character knows what he's talking about. (He kinda unconsciously sounds like y'all.)
Minsc and Boo’s Journal of Villainy has 5e stats for Mephistopheles. The book is technically unofficial but has some great stat blocks for various villains including several arch devils and demon lords. Hellfire doesn’t care about fire resistance.
My personal canon for why there are so many ruins in Baator is that it was actually the first plane created, and the original inhabitants were corrupted into the first devils, forgetting what they once were. Now Mephistopheles is rediscovering forgotten knowledge within the ruins of the first people.
On the Banner/Hulk vs Jekyll/Hyde: Apart from the very recent (and super excellent) "Immortal Hulk", Hulk has always been an agent of chaos, but still good natured; same goes for Bruce Banner. I think what Bryan mentioned is actually the Old Man Logan timeline, in which both have gone crazy and generated a long series of in-bred with She-Hulk (who's the only woman who could bear the Hulk child). Jekyll/Hyde are the poster child of good turning bad, with Hyde being the physical representation of Jekyll's (and by extension, all of humanity's) malice, starting small and weak (when Jekyll is still a good man new to evil) and then becoming strong and almost (here comes the joke) hulking.
In the original Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story, they weren't even two separate personalities. Dr. Jekyll would just use a potion to change his appearance so he could act on the bad impulses he always has without being held accountable. The problem arose when he started changing to the Hyde appearance without the potion and outside his own control. But it was always Jekyll doing those things.
I’m new to DnD and i found this channel! It’s awesome, and i just started to listen to the podcast episodes so i can get a little more information on how the game works and the lore and mythos and everything! Is really cool, i’m currently on episode 7 of the podcast, where it’s about Worldbuilding.
Late to the party so if anyone else said it, my bad. Bruce Banner did come out during world war hulk in the fight against Doctor Stranger. (Changing to Banner to get his guard down then reverting and crushing DS's hands) And the fight between Hulk and Sentry was a stalemate ended by a giant space laser that turned them both back to their normal human forms. Cause you gotta leave it ambiguous so no camp gets too mad.
Baalphagor's history in dnd is very interesting. She is said to be as old as the hells themselves and maybe even older than the other 9 Lords of Hell. And quite possibly is a primordial Nessian/Canian/Baatorian. She's the queen of ice, and in 3.5, she's missing and her erinyes squads are looking for her. RE: the raven queen, I actually think that CR is to "blame" for her drop in popularity in 5e due to their interpretation of her in the first campaign. The way she treated the protagonists at the end kinda soured her for some.
In my own homebrew I have a son of Mephastopheles and they have one of those paradoxical relationships. Like they hate one another deeply but God help anyone who disrespects the other in their presence. The logic being that I am awesome so no wonder he is awesome mentality.
My PRACTICAL guess on the hand-off reference: Next year is Year of the Undead. LOTS of material there. My PIPE DREAM HOPEFUL guess: Next year is Year of the Humanoid, where we finally go into the greatest hits of actual people in the D&D multiverse: Mordenkainen, Elminster, Jarlaxle, Wulfgar, etc. They could honestly go even more specific and make it Year of the Mage and still have a boatload of content. My CRACKHEAD guess: Year of the Ooze, baby
In terms of storylines demonstrating the power of hellfire, I love the idea of an Igor/Dr. N. Brio type of henchman who is always by the Master's side but is kind of a wimp, even a comic relief character, who the party often sees as they chase after the supposed master. Eventually, this goofy little idiot gets sick of being the butt of everyone's jokes and discovers the secrets of hellfire and this afterthought suddenly burns his master alive and torches entire castles and countrysides with a level of power that far outstrips anything the old master was doing. No secret training, no hidden power backstory. He just got access to portable nukes without any of the hard work and is suddenly way more powerful than anything you've seen before.
So, being the big dweeb that I am (and probably thanks to binging Um Actually episodes recently), I feel I gotta say something about the Bruce Banner/Hulk tangent. In World War Hulk, Hulk believes that Reed Richards planted a bomb in the ship, but it's revealed that one of his war brood planted it there to decieve Hulk. And the other story that's mentioned where Banner himself is evil would be Old Man Logan. Banner has a bunch of inbred Hulk kids that do nefarious things, but Banner only turns into the Hulk if he absolutely has to (for instance, Logan coming to kill the Hulk family).
The ancient things in parts of the 9 Hells are sometimes referred to as Baatorians, and they are the native races of the Lawful Evil plane, before it was taken over by Asmodeus and his fallen angels. The only named one I know of is Zargon.
Y'know, in Dante's inferno, the final ring of Hell is actually a cold place where the souls are frozen up to their necks. So.. yeah, cold hell isn't exactly unprecedented.
idk about glacier wyrms but frost wyrms are pretty terrifying. aj pickett just did a pretty good video about them. yeah they're pretty close to a purple wyrm but with some other terrifying abilities
So, in terms of 5E, the Forgotten Realms is featured heavily. But Ravenloft was introduced in 5E back in 2016, which was the second year of the edition. So saying that the first 5 years of 5E was Forgotten Realms only, is technically incorrect.
Ok just a small gripe, when a villain signs a song in a disney movie they arent telling the kids its good😂 they are in fact showing they are bad and showing kids this is how bad people think
Regarding world war/world breaker hulk both bruce and the hulk are pissed and at the end he realises some stuff which im not gonna say cause spoilers and they both ask the heroes to stop them before they destroy earth🤓.Also great video you guys really help in my campaign
Lol, you talked about him being the Lord of Hellfire and the Cold Lord, and then you joked about his low AC, for some reason my brain thought you meant air conditioning, because he likes it cold. Took me a second to realize you obviously meant armor class.
I want to see Mephistopheles versus Orcus wanna necromancer spellcasters and wonder, wizard spellcaster, one demon lord, and one arch devil demon lord Orcus 👿 and arch devil Mephistopheles 😈.
@@calebrenegar1992, I still think that the main villain's motivation being explicitly stated as lust is more than just a sly joke to get parents to watch it.
Maybe Mephistophalies is true about how to solve problems with Azmo because he is subtly showing Asmo i know how to do this better than you and this is why i should lead.
Mephistopheles and Asmodeus is the closest thing you could have to true friendship between two immensely powerful, purely evil Archdevils
"Are you Satan?"
"I should be!"
Thanks, guys, that made me laugh so hard. 🤣
Mephi wanting to surpass Asmo with his own power is so similar to Vegeta and Goku. I think Vegeta has actually saved Goku’s life and said something like, “The only one who will kill Kakarot is me!”
Never, ever never was there ever, such a cast as the magical Dungeoncastopheles.
The way I see it Asmodeus is Megatron and Mephistopheles is Starscream, down to the treacherous right hand man being vocal about his ambitions and the main villain thinking that the traitor is too useful to be disposed of.
He’s an intimidating Starscream. Need to differentiate that starscream sucks lol.
I think I'll have him turn into a jet next time I use him
Yeah it'd be cool to interact with this video to raise its rating
Came here to put this
