    I just realized, Tharizdun is so powerful because of the shard of evil, giving him the might of what is essentially an entire multiverse of power save for what the Oberynth lords kept

    • @heyllo1337
      @heyllo1337 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What's more is, from what I under stand, most of the shard is held by juiblex and the remandier is the ruby rod of asmodeus.
      I'm trying to draw up a home brew class that will have heavier plot strings tied to it.
      Basically, if that campaign ever happens, when they start getting close to 20/epic level his goals is devouring the demon and devil lords, then turning his eye to celestial, pinning the abyss layers, 9 hells, astral sea, and other realms together to ultimately drown the entire wheel in a midnight sea.
      With certain evils intended to be shards of himself in a sense. Still workshopping that and the whole class.

  • @ErinWi
    @ErinWi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Earlier this year I got onto a major D&D lore kick and after reading about Tharizdun I had a dream where I saw the "bottom" layer of the Abyss and it was his body, chained up by the Gods' magic. The rest of the Abyss was an ecosystem of demons feeding off of him eternally, while metastasizing into other planes. So in some sense he IS the Abyss, but in a horrible awful sense. Anyway, that was a pretty rad dream.

    Mok'Slyk (Maybe Jazirian/Ahriman and Azgorath), The Lady of Pain, The Dark Powers (arguably, but I say they might be), Ao, Chronos/Annam, and Tharizdun are all candidates for being either Great Powers or being fragments or echoes of a Great Power. I think they're also referred to as the Ancient Bretheren in 'Die, Vecna! Die!' or 'Vecna Lives!'

    I'm currently running a Lovecraftian campaign and am taking the angle of Tharizdun and Azathoth being the same entity. It makes sense for them to be one-and-the-same given their striking similarities and, as far as the DnD universe goes, It feels it's canonically kosher.

      I have a campaign in which Tharizdun, Lolth, Asmodeus & Tiamat are at the wheel as it were. All divine energy specifically has been negated. Be it captivated or simply had. Due to this demon, daemon & devil alike are inadvertently as well as intentionally seeping through all the worlds though nature seems to have set laws as only severe thunder storm would have it. Azathoth is under siege despite this by Lolth, Asmodeus, Tharizdun & Asmodeus as well as their 'forces.'
      In between.....we have a world of the goodly & neutral alike as the sole remaining beings. Call it Vegan if you wish. 🤫🙃😏
      One deity foresaw this crisis & made her very being that of mortality. Effectively a mortal with the acuity of a deity in essence. Her only goal being to keep herself safe as well as all others she can. The goal of most...

    It's interesting that Chronos is imprisoned in the same way with the dreamscape of their paradise world. I wonder if Tharazdun and he have any connection, which would also be an interesting link to the primordial titans/proto-empyrians, Annam (who's implied to be a surviving true titan), and the giants who were made in the image of the titans/primordials.
    Also being the old god(?) of gateways and boundaries, it's thought that he was corrupted in part by exposure to the far realm, which I guess he held back, but also from beyond that found the multiverse that contained the Obyrinths? Also makes the link between him and Astral Dreadnaughts and maybe Beholder's pretty interesting

      I actually recall something about Gygax saying that Tharizdun was meant to be a Chronos figure and Vhaerun was meant to be the Elder Elemental Eye but that lore got changed over time

    There’s a 5e artifact of Tharizdun in the Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount, known as the Blade of Broken Mirrors. Nice weapon for a Rogue or other dagger wielder. Of course it’s a sentient chaotic evil artifact, so user beware.

    • @cesarfortson8245
      @cesarfortson8245 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually just gave the Blade of Broken mirrors to a player in my party. It takes place in HotDQ and RoT, but all of it is just a setup for the rest of the campaign, which is about Tharizdun potentially breaking free. This dagger is meant to be the way his cult ALWAYS knows what’s happening later on.

    If I remember his story correctly, Tharizdun busts a Fat Nut up in the Elemental Chaos, and is paying child support for the Abyss.
    That's why he isn't doing his evil stuff now.
    Thats my canon, and I'm Sticking to it.

    He first showed up in the Gord the Rogue book in Greyhawk series by Gary Gygax, still one of my favorites. Tharisdun was the incarnate of evil and completely and utterly powerful where he could end the blood war and gather the whole of the lower planes at his command. Long story short, the plot was to have him lock himself up for all eternity, which he did.

    I have liked and commented, I continue to serve the mysterious dungeoncast! Dont feel like a paladin bit this week.
    If I knew existence was going to get unraveled, I'd probably just go get high with some myconoids.
    Some of the first edition art is goofy looking, like the classic image of a beholder. Also have you seen first edition art for orcs? They were literally pig men. Im not kidding if you haven't seen it, look it up.
    Tharizdun worshippers are dumber than slimes.
    Tharizdun actually reminds me of chronos is dnd lore. He's also trapped in an illusion he doesn't know is an illusion. He's killed almost every god in his illusion which if memory serves correctly was created by the god of the kobolds.
    Anyway, thats all for this week. Have a good day will and brian.

    Wouldn't it be funny if "THE ONE WHO WAS" was in fact was Thairzdun. His story parallels Asmodeous. Who was tasked at watching the abyss. What if The One Who Was told Asmodeous to get the shard and they both went mad. I wondered this because the plot hole in Asmodeous mythos being, If The one who was real name was struck from history wouldn't all Celestials and Gods have to forget? What if Thairzdun created the humans before his madness and the Celestials took his name away because if humans worshiped him he would have the power to un make reality.
