I think I am going to keep playing Rivals, regardless of balance, its flat out more fun than I have had since the release of OW2 Thats not even touching on the wealth and sheer volume of lore the devs can pick from and trickle feed to everyone about their new mains. With continued optimization and balance I think the hero shooter genre finally has competition in a meaningful way.
Im one of those who's not interested in rivals I had to stop playing ow because of a headache last week while normally logging in daily, and my comeback has been.. "lets try qp for a few matches cause ranked is unplayable end of season.. oh, I'm being put with 1000sr different players, oh, I see mauga and orisa and kiriko everywhere, I am not really having fun, ok bye" And then they buff mauga and orisa Guess I gotta sit out another december, just like last year because of Mauga's release..
Will play 6 v 6 to get my rein mythic. But most of my time will be on Marvel Rivals. It's simply much more fun than current OW. Although that may change with Hazard and Rein in 6 v 6.. We'll see.
@@TomMorello725 Disagree as someone who always has to play tank because we have 3+ dps. Thor and Cap are really fun and the rest are fun once in a while. Besides Penni (Penny?) she's boring. All they need to do is add more tanks and we're swell. Also playing tank in OW isn't exactly known to be... the most fun role. Let's just put it like that (it's the most miserable role in the game).

@khaledm.1476 she always was a problematic pain in the ass, but Sombra got gutted. In ranked, she easily was Widows best counter - because of invisibility, she actually was able to stage and sneak up on her. In contrast to every other hero. If you peak, you die against a good Widow, and now that Sombra is gone, the only counterplay left is having one of your DPS to mirror Widow and pray your Widow is better. No one can close the distance to her even remotely safe. IMO, a hero who can straight up instantly delete most of all heroes across the map with a single left click does not belong in OW in the first place. But then giving said hero one of the strongest mobility CDs (grapple) as well makes it impossible to even dive her. She just peaces out and whoever dove her is stuck in Narnia.

Symm needs more agency, not team play. He's usually good at pointing that out. I'm kind of sad he didn't talk about that because even if her damage is consistent she's not reliable in getting elems, and still has a higher TTK than some supports.
I saw more people play sym in over watch classic then years of playing ow2. Even when her 1.0 version was straight up garbage people still played her a ton.
if I do another patch "fix" vid I'll have Sym stuff. On patch reacts it's more about critiquing the changes being done without providing alternatives (that comes later)
I think the overwatch 2 devs must be really big fans of marvel rivals. Looks like they're trying to speedrun OW2 and get the playerbase gone so they can go play it instead of making OW great again.
In June, Sojourn rail's dmg scaling was nerfed from 130 to 100 dmg, but today they partially reverted it to 120 while leaving in every compensatory buff they gave her in the last six months. Since June Soj has had these net BUFFS: -Primary fire rate buffed by 14.3% -Ult’s rail charge rate buffed by 20% -Primary fire spread buffed by 20% -Disruptor shot dmg buffed by 33.3% -Energy collection from crits buffed by 100% -Disruptor now generates charge -Railgun now pierces through enemies -Energy now degenerates to zero at half the previous rate of decay and starts 4 seconds later (71.4%) and these net NERFS: -Railgun charge dmg scaling nerfed by 10 dmg (7.7%)

I just dont get why tf buff sym tp?? 50 more ho on a tp makes no sense, youre probably death anyways if theyre shooting at the tp, i wouldve rather 25 extra hp on sym, the only real buff in here is to venture, they feel soo good, you can actually abuse the cd reduction by activating burrow BEFORE you touch the ground and getting like 2 extra seconds of cdr
Please, PLEASE just let us do as much damage as a DPS again! It's crazy that even when using all three cool downs, (resulting in a charged punch), doom still can't kill a lot of DPS roles.
Wouldn't have minded if they made the slam do dmg (hopefully bring back the height dmg scaling from ow1), but instead, they just nerfed his worst CD. They should just never touch Doom because they never know what they're doing.
the last couple of seasons i can sum up how the devs handle orisa with these fine words from a great man. " Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is? Insanity is doing the exact... same thing... over and over again expecting.... shit to change".
Not gonna lie, it's hard to imagine that 6v6 will really change anything when they can't decide on a vision to move forward on with 5v5. How can we expect them to balance 6v6 *AND* 5v5 properly, where their attention is going to be split between both, when they have a hard time handling what's in front of them?
@@RacingSnails64 When the hero *design* is what is extremely strong, the nerfs need to hit the right spot. Release Brig was nerfed like 20+ times and she was still OP at the end of OW1. She was not hit in the right spot. The removing her stun and overarmour from E was what made her balanced. All they need to do to Juno imo, is give her midair strafe a floaty or slipperiness to it. Currently her 3d movement is far too strong. She is dying the least and therefore her uptime is ridiculously higher than all other supports. Which is OP when she gives her team speed, and can reach her teammates at any moment to heal them. EG. Ana has to slowly mosy on up to get her teammates in LoS in certain situations.. Like when she's low ground and teammates are high ground. Might take her 5-10 seconds to get into position sometimes to heal. Juno, the tap of one button and within 1-2 seconds she can heal her teammates. Easy peasy value. She speeds her team while she does it.
Its like they ignore the key thing they should balance the game around - the meta at high ranks (like most competitive games). Juno, Brig for another season. Orisa, Mauga, D.va for another season. Ashe, Tracer, Widow, Reaper for another season. YAYYYYYY!!!!! And btw Orisa having a low win rate overall is because bad players in low ranks swap to her when they dont know who else to play. Changes should never be made based on the global win rate of a hero as it is subject to skewed, easily misinterpretable information. I used to be a Rainbow six siege player and they made changes primarily based on *high rank* win rate and pick rate and if Blizzard did this I think the game would be in a much better place balance wise. Why? Because higher ranks usually play heroes correctly and therefore provide better information for balancing.
I'd honestly love to see a bar graph comparing Pre Season 9 Balance, Season 9 Balance, and Current Balance Just being able to visualize HOW MUCH the game changed when Season 9 happened, and just how much it's been walked back would be incredibly interesting and insightful Wouldn't have to be incredibly granular in it's representation either - Average Projectile Size - Average Hitscan Projectile Size - Average Helathpool Size I feel like even just the averages before, during, and after would be telling
Despite every other department of OW2's Team 4 knocking it out of the park for a year plus, the balance team's stagnant incompetence has continued to single-handedly devolve one of the best multiplayer games of all time into unrecognizable, unplayable slop. Aaron Keller has publicly defined OW2 multiple times with the specific terms FAST-PACED, COMPETITIVE, and SHOOTER. This balance team's unfortunate, unceasing lack of vision, learning, or context for what once made this game a pinnacle example of those crucial traits makes an utter mockery of the game director's stated claim and goal. If they want to make a casual first person MOBA-lite with a singular simple flowchart gameplay loop, Mr. Keller should be honest and say so, or find new, willing minds to restore Overwatch to former excellence. Marvel Rivals is here now for the casual audience, and Deadlock is on target for the competitive one. God help them if a competent dev decides to make a full on team, objective-based hero FPS in direct competition.
I just can't agree about Juno not overperforming. Highest pick rate and winrate across ranks. There's pretty much no reason to play anything else but Juno, brig in most comps. Incredibly universal, Incredibly strong and pretty boring
Honestly, 6 second CD on doom slam to 6.5 is absolutely massive. I would rather they revert the wall angles. That .5 seconds when trying to escape is so massive and happens a dozen times a game. That is huge. Dang.
Nah man, you literally told me the game needed exaggerated projectile sizes in this game and it was healthy for the game on a previous video.. Those hit box changes should had never been in the game and I’m tired of devs coddling bad players feelings to make some extra bucks from them.
A couple of days ago, I played an interesting game of qp. I have been maining doom for 2 seasons now and just love to lock him and adapt even when I'm fully countered. In the game that I played (throne of Anubis) it was pretty much a mirror for first point. They had a doom too, both teams had a mercy, a kiri, a tracer and another dps. We crushed first fight, with me getting 3k damage whilst my dps were lacking. Right after first point and the first deaths of every enemy, they all swapped. Doom went orisa, their tracer went cass, their (I think) genji went sombra, their mercy went moira and kiri went ana. We were not able to take 2nd and they beat us back with ease to middle point. There we fought for a while, but my mercy ulted when out of position and low and got javelined to a wall and died to the cass 2 seconds after popping GA. From then on we played a little more defensively, but we lost middle point and got pushed to 2nd. There we lasted for a while, but I wasn't getting well supported and had to use cooldowns to survive engagements and go for packs way out of the way. That's when i realized that my mercy was in spawn spamming hello and standing still in a corner, only looking around every once in a while. They said that they won't waste their time and try if I'm not going to swap (keep in mind I'm full countered and after 5-6 fights and I have the best stats by a long shot on my team) I said i wouldn't and that what they are doing is literally a banable offence. They do not care and keep on standing in soawn. So as of the standing of the game, we held onto our 2nd for 2+ minutes in a 4v5 (down a support) but we can't win the sustain fight, so they cap it. It's 3-1 for them and they're at our last point with 2 ticks to capture. I'm still being a problem for them and kill supports with ease, but at any mess up, i get cc chained, but i do my best to bait out hacks and try to stop them before going in and commiting. We hold on barely by killing supports with the help of my reaper. But over all, it's hard to gain an advantage without losing a player. We end up stalling out point just shy of a further 2 minutes, but at this point they have a juno instead of ana and get back quickly all things considered. Their cass also kept on dunking on my tracer who finished the game with 1.9k damage. At a point, i get a kill on the cass, but the orisa comes fresh from spawn with juno and i get crumpled for the last time. It was a 4v2 on point and i knew that it was over. I said in all chat that my mercy was afk in spawn because i wouldn't swap. The enemy team unanimously all said; "Well why didn't you?" We held off the enemy team on 2 points and 3 ticks of capture without a support that was being a crybaby, and I got told unanimously that i should have swapped so that they'd play instead of me staying doom. Teamates had nothing to say about the matter. It made me go fucking insane and really ruined my night. With another support, we would have had a chance, but 4v5 was really hard to live up to. The fact that everyone that spoke up said that the onus is on me for not accepting my mercy's demand. Especially with the fight we were putting up. Have the community's brains rotten that much over time that we believe that someone who throws game is not at fault for doing so if their teamate is not playing to their wishes? Cherry on top is they sent me a friend request right after the game, but then cancelled it before i could even accept it. I sent one back and told them that they were stupid and that what they did is by definition a bannable offence and to enjoy the ban, before unfriending them. I haven't logged onto the gane since me reporting them, i hope they got banned for that, but i know it can take a bit to get results with the report system on this game.
I feel like I would benefit from a healing denied/prevented statistic. I main Lucio and Rein and lately I've started playing open queue for warmup games. I've only just recently started to notice how impactful the Damage passive is, I think you can feel it when you don't have it on your team. I'm shocked about it but actually think 3 tanks 2 supports < 1 tank, 2 damage 2 supports these days.
While I think they do focus far too much on balancing for win-rates instead of balancing for fun... (No widow nerf is tragic, even if she didn't NEED it)... I've strangely been having a lot of fun playing QP today... Maybe it's just day one of a new season, but I'm starting to wonder if the DPS passive change might actually be goated. I could focus enemies down on soldier, sojourn felt impactful, things actually died. Idk maybe I'm crazy but I haven't had this much fun on OW in a while
They dont balance off of winrates, they nerfed mauga and buffed torb and symmettra. They also arent nerfing heros with high winrates like venture, rein, and lucio, they also buffed 2 of those this patch. They obviously still use it but its not the main way and its a good metric to work off of. I think the reason they dont nerf widow is because you cant get rid of the one shot without dumpstering her, and you cant nerf anything else without making her just feel worse. Changing anything but the one shot wont make her better to play against and nerfing cooldowns or the charge rate just makes her less fun without making the 1 shot any less annoying.
@@Rando3210 Yeah so true. They balance for the BP sales (usually indirectly affecting the viability/fun of mythic receiver), and sometimes for problem heroes (like Juno atm).
@@Deusaga Heros being good doesnt affect skins sales, there popularity and design does. Buffing heros doesnt make them more popular, but it does make people who already play them play them more, so it doesnt have a major effect on skin sales. The games being unbalanced makes people play less, and if people arent playing they dont buy skins. It doesnt make sense to balance around skins for any remotely competitive game. If they did they would have to plan out balance patches months in advanced, which would be impossible to keep remotely balanced if you did that.
@@Rando3210 You can see the patterns for yourself. Go look at all the Season patch notes ever since they stopped putting heroes in the BP. Every one has buffs/nerfs that indirectly affect the viability and fun of the mythic holder. That's a heck of a coincidence if it is one. Although I can't say for certain that it's not, just that I believe it isn't.
@@Deusaga Dude you are the one making the claim, telling someone else to do there own research is not a good way to back up your point. You can see even in this battepass there isnt any correlation between heros who got buffs and heros who got skins, only 2 heros in the pass go balance changes and most people can agree both were justified. The changes also dont effect the other heros in the battlepass signficantly either. It makes sense some heros who got skins also got buffed, but there isnt a correlation between buffed heros and heros who got skins. Every balance change they can make you can argue affects a hero who got a skin positively in some way, but you can do that for every other hero in the game too. Junkerqueen last season got nerfed and a skin, doesnt mean they nerf heros who get battlepass skins.
When I saw it I felt like there just wasn't a lot to it. Maybe there will be more with the 6v6 test. Presumably they are getting ready to make the test as good as they think they can make it and preparing for a future where 6v6 is potentially the future. Doesn't make a lot of sense to change a bunch of heroes and then change them again for the new mode. Probably wrong but that is my guess.
Genuinely one of the worst patches ive seen in a long while, right in time to sabotage the 6v6 test. Gonna be playing Marvel Rivals this season for sure now, Thanks Blizzard for supporting the launch of Rivals by making the patch near release dogcrap. Then we got Ori buffs, deployable buffs, Regen burst buff, Symettra buffs DESPITE HER DOING WELL (nerfed JQ when shes good for a week, buffs heros people find annoying as hell EVEN WHEN THEY ARE DOING GREAT), Soujorn buff, removes counterplay to lucio ult, AND NO WIDOW NERFS SPILO, IN THE INTERVIEW YOU JUUUUUST DID WITH THE DEVS AARON AND ALEC SAID IF WIDOW WAS LIKE EVERY SECOND GAME THEY HAVE DONE SOMETHING WRONG ITS BEEN WIDOW EVERY SECOND GAME ALL LAST SEASON, THEY DID NOTHING BY THE LEAD DEVS OWN ADMISSION AND THEIR OWN STANDARDS, SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY WRONG.

I disagree with Spilo's take that Widow isn't overtuned because she has a 50% win rate in masters and grandmasters. Wouldn't it be that if one team picks Widow, the other team has to pick Widow to contest and therefore, between two Widows, one has to lose and therefore she would have a 50% win rate? I could be missing something though, I do have much less time than Spilo does
They dont look at mirror matches when determining hero winrate. The 50% tells us that if your team has a widow, you have a statistical 50% chance to win or lose the game against any other combination of heroes.

just because widow isnt over/underperforming doesnt mean she is a balanced character, i think her design is just inherently unfun in this game but idk what they can do about that

she's the worst performing tank in the game by a large margin according to overbuff (devs have confirmed is fairly close to the real numbers). I don't agree with how she's buffed, but we can criticize patches without making stuff up. The fortify gun and movement speed changes awhile back were massive nerfs. The hero desperately needs identity besides existing as a golden brick of poo, and this patch doesn't change that, but she definitely needs help.
A golden brick of poo that can shut down most of the other tank kits in the game I’m sorry but she’s completely obnoxious you can’t even just ignore her and try and kill her backline because unlike our favourite pink haired Russian the horse always does her max damage and will demolish your supports and dps unironically just need to remove her from the game until she gets another rework she’s a zero fun shutdown machine at the moment and all it turns into is horse vs horse bouncing off each other spinning javelins she’s completely killed playing tank for me and most of my friends I know her numbers don’t look good but actually playing the game the way she controls the engagement with jav and spin jav makes her a nightmare I always feel good when I wipe a team with doom or junker queen but with horse I just feel nothing like it’s going through the motions shutting down whatever’s poor sods I’m versing you never feel more powerless as a tank then you do vsing an orissa player with more then one brain cell
@@CoachSpilothe reason she preforms low is because everyone plays her especially the low ranks. Because of that she is obviously going to have a lower win rate. Win rates are not representing the actually power a hero has.
@@CoachSpilodid we forget that the pick rate is a thing or something? Win rate will always be skewed due to the variable of pick rate. Look at both statistic as well as compare and contrast on both low ELO and high ELO. Orissa, Mauga and Hog are the three most unhealthiest designs and balances currently and will continue to be if they don't outright pull them out and rework the ground up or have other tanks to actually be fully rework for 5v5 format instead of a wishy-washy changes they got.

I’ve come back after not playing for over 2 years & I cannot stand how pretty much nothing can die anymore. Everything has too much health now (Hanzo, my favourite Hero, can barely even kill anybody anymore). Most Heroes have infinity movement, can instantly teleport, instantly be invulnerable, instantly heal or be made to do so by multiple team members in a chain. Half the abilities have been reworked to do everything with no downside. It’s just fucking frustrating. 6v6 needs to come back & fix half the heroes tbh.
@@code_Bread Nah. Certainly not. Even outside of the obvious Tanks, Reaper, Mei, McCree, Brig etc I’ve headshot basically every other hero & they don’t die many times over & over. The no-reg bug is worse than ever, seeing the particle effect for arrows hitting a Hero & not registering. I’ve noticed that since 2018 & it’s never been talked about at all which baffles me, perhaps it’s just my game or something🤷♂️
By their own logic why didn’t they buff Genji dash? They are just lying about that Torb change 😂 literally made up a reason to add it. If it was true, several other changes would be present in this patch. Literally they’re just liars
coming back to this to say spilo, it makes me psychotic that the explosions on Illiari's ult don't heal allies. would singlehandedly encourage a new way to play around an ult.
Up to now, Illari has really been more of a dps with a pylon (and a very weak healing beam) to me. The fact that her ult is purely offensive just reinforces that. She's like a better Soldier 76 lol.
17:10 I think a good idea for bap would be to lower his primary heal's aoe strength and lower his regen burst heal + cooldown that way his regen burst is his main form of aoe healing
Idk for me every change that does nothing is devs not taking a step in the right direction, which is bad because they already past the time the step was needed far too much. So even the changes that are "fine" do not suffice
I’m so confused… I’m pretty encouraged and optimistic in regards to Hazard, 6v6, heck I even quite like the current Battlepass. But EVERY time I check the patch notes it’s like rolling the dice to see which tank no one likes is gonna be showing up in every game. Guess it’s horse-season again.
Tbh this patch feels like the devs were too busy balancing 6v6 and then they were like oh shit we need to make a new patch for the next season. Hopefully thats what happened.
I'm not getting put into lobbies found when queuing and the game gives me mm bans for "leaving". Looking it up, people have had the issue for years. Any patch that doesn't fix something that game breaking is kinda ass. If the connecting issue itself can't be fixed (why not retry the connection?), then at least don't punish people for leaving games they literally never got to enter?

I think Spilo is being way to passive towards these changes. Yeah the meta game won't change too much but isn't that a problem right now? Widow is running rampant and Sombra still doesn't feel good to play. Buffing Orisa right after we just got out of a horse meta a month and a half ago isn't a good look. All Soldier got was a biotic field buff. And they're buffing deployables again which has shown to be problematic time and time again. I refuse to believe that this balance team plays this game more than once a week.

I wouldn’t mind the turret buffs if he couldn’t heal it mid fight. He can just set it up on Gib or Dorado high ground, standing behind it for cover, and you have to kill this thing in the middle of battle that has better aim than the other 9 players on the map. It’s simply not fun. It sucks to do. It’s dumb. Don’t let torn heal his stupid turret and definitely don’t give it more health if he can.
The hit size reduced is so stupid. first making the game braindead for everyone since you hit everything, now going back and people actually have to aim again. i was completely confused why i didnt hit stuff anymore... quality dev team
One day we'll look back and realize that in the chase for competitive we killed the fun of this game and with it, cannibalized the playerbase. Oh well, rivals is just fun.

This patch, to me, felt like they just wanted to put out a patch, not because they had very many good ideas for patch notes and changes, but simply because it's a new season. Underwhelming, milk toast changes
The rail gun gap wouldn’t be so bad if it reloaded her gun a little (if you do a certain amount of rail shot damage perhaps?) Because as is, you have the gap, AND you still need to reload so you’ve got a 2 kinds of down time between shots
How I long for streamer balancing patches. Any of the basic ones could with a days work give value and interest. Now in plat/diamond there are mechanically good Widows every match just throwing since they do nothing to help with the objective. They K/D is good, but they get the kills when the teamfight is already being lost or outside of them altogether, but "Widow op" so they never change🙈
regenerative burst on Bap might need a full rework, like tying it to his healing fire- such as, making it a super charged version of his heal shot that works on him as well, like loading a super bullet for one bullet- you can aim it and send it away from you to hit far away allies (travel time in mind) and is overall very effective and strong, but requires much more thought and placement, and timing

@khaledm.1476 she always was a problematic pain in the ass, but Sombra got gutted. In ranked, she easily was Widows best counter - because of invisibility, she actually was able to stage and sneak up on her. In contrast to every other hero. If you peak, you die against a good Widow, and now that Sombra is gone, the only counterplay left is having one of your DPS to mirror Widow and pray your Widow is better.
No one can close the distance to her even remotely safe. IMO, a hero who can straight up instantly delete most of all heroes across the map with a single left click does not belong in OW in the first place. But then giving said hero one of the strongest mobility CDs (grapple) as well makes it impossible to even dive her. She just peaces out and whoever dove her is stuck in Narnia.

Symm needs more agency, not team play. He's usually good at pointing that out. I'm kind of sad he didn't talk about that because even if her damage is consistent she's not reliable in getting elems, and still has a higher TTK than some supports.
Sym in current format doesn't work as team play, because no one will pay attention when you gonna deploy teleporter
I saw more people play sym in over watch classic then years of playing ow2. Even when her 1.0 version was straight up garbage people still played her a ton.

it's just the nature of playing with randoms, nobody else uses the TP, so it is basically just a reaper TP at this point.

I think the overwatch 2 devs must be really big fans of marvel rivals. Looks like they're trying to speedrun OW2 and get the playerbase gone so they can go play it instead of making OW great again.

In June, Sojourn rail's dmg scaling was nerfed from 130 to 100 dmg, but today they partially reverted it to 120 while leaving in every compensatory buff they gave her in the last six months.
Since June Soj has had these net BUFFS:
-Primary fire rate buffed by 14.3%
-Ult’s rail charge rate buffed by 20%
-Primary fire spread buffed by 20%
-Disruptor shot dmg buffed by 33.3%
-Energy collection from crits buffed by 100%
-Disruptor now generates charge
-Railgun now pierces through enemies
-Energy now degenerates to zero at half the previous rate of decay and starts 4 seconds later (71.4%)
and these net NERFS:
-Railgun charge dmg scaling nerfed by 10 dmg (7.7%)
And people say these small buffs doesn't matter 😂😂😂. It's not about the size of the buff it's about the amount

@@RacingSnails64 When the hero *design* is what is extremely strong, the nerfs need to hit the right spot. Release Brig was nerfed like 20+ times and she was still OP at the end of OW1. She was not hit in the right spot. The removing her stun and overarmour from E was what made her balanced.
All they need to do to Juno imo, is give her midair strafe a floaty or slipperiness to it. Currently her 3d movement is far too strong. She is dying the least and therefore her uptime is ridiculously higher than all other supports. Which is OP when she gives her team speed, and can reach her teammates at any moment to heal them.
EG. Ana has to slowly mosy on up to get her teammates in LoS in certain situations.. Like when she's low ground and teammates are high ground. Might take her 5-10 seconds to get into position sometimes to heal. Juno, the tap of one button and within 1-2 seconds she can heal her teammates. Easy peasy value. She speeds her team while she does it.

And btw Orisa having a low win rate overall is because bad players in low ranks swap to her when they dont know who else to play. Changes should never be made based on the global win rate of a hero as it is subject to skewed, easily misinterpretable information.
I used to be a Rainbow six siege player and they made changes primarily based on *high rank* win rate and pick rate and if Blizzard did this I think the game would be in a much better place balance wise. Why? Because higher ranks usually play heroes correctly and therefore provide better information for balancing.

Despite every other department of OW2's Team 4 knocking it out of the park for a year plus, the balance team's stagnant incompetence has continued to single-handedly devolve one of the best multiplayer games of all time into unrecognizable, unplayable slop. Aaron Keller has publicly defined OW2 multiple times with the specific terms FAST-PACED, COMPETITIVE, and SHOOTER. This balance team's unfortunate, unceasing lack of vision, learning, or context for what once made this game a pinnacle example of those crucial traits makes an utter mockery of the game director's stated claim and goal. If they want to make a casual first person MOBA-lite with a singular simple flowchart gameplay loop, Mr. Keller should be honest and say so, or find new, willing minds to restore Overwatch to former excellence. Marvel Rivals is here now for the casual audience, and Deadlock is on target for the competitive one. God help them if a competent dev decides to make a full on team, objective-based hero FPS in direct competition.
I just can't agree about Juno not overperforming. Highest pick rate and winrate across ranks. There's pretty much no reason to play anything else but Juno, brig in most comps. Incredibly universal, Incredibly strong and pretty boring

A couple of days ago, I played an interesting game of qp. I have been maining doom for 2 seasons now and just love to lock him and adapt even when I'm fully countered.
In the game that I played (throne of Anubis) it was pretty much a mirror for first point. They had a doom too, both teams had a mercy, a kiri, a tracer and another dps. We crushed first fight, with me getting 3k damage whilst my dps were lacking. Right after first point and the first deaths of every enemy, they all swapped. Doom went orisa, their tracer went cass, their (I think) genji went sombra, their mercy went moira and kiri went ana. We were not able to take 2nd and they beat us back with ease to middle point. There we fought for a while, but my mercy ulted when out of position and low and got javelined to a wall and died to the cass 2 seconds after popping GA.
From then on we played a little more defensively, but we lost middle point and got pushed to 2nd. There we lasted for a while, but I wasn't getting well supported and had to use cooldowns to survive engagements and go for packs way out of the way. That's when i realized that my mercy was in spawn spamming hello and standing still in a corner, only looking around every once in a while. They said that they won't waste their time and try if I'm not going to swap (keep in mind I'm full countered and after 5-6 fights and I have the best stats by a long shot on my team)
I said i wouldn't and that what they are doing is literally a banable offence. They do not care and keep on standing in soawn. So as of the standing of the game, we held onto our 2nd for 2+ minutes in a 4v5 (down a support) but we can't win the sustain fight, so they cap it. It's 3-1 for them and they're at our last point with 2 ticks to capture. I'm still being a problem for them and kill supports with ease, but at any mess up, i get cc chained, but i do my best to bait out hacks and try to stop them before going in and commiting.
We hold on barely by killing supports with the help of my reaper. But over all, it's hard to gain an advantage without losing a player. We end up stalling out point just shy of a further 2 minutes, but at this point they have a juno instead of ana and get back quickly all things considered. Their cass also kept on dunking on my tracer who finished the game with 1.9k damage. At a point, i get a kill on the cass, but the orisa comes fresh from spawn with juno and i get crumpled for the last time. It was a 4v2 on point and i knew that it was over.
I said in all chat that my mercy was afk in spawn because i wouldn't swap. The enemy team unanimously all said; "Well why didn't you?"
We held off the enemy team on 2 points and 3 ticks of capture without a support that was being a crybaby, and I got told unanimously that i should have swapped so that they'd play instead of me staying doom. Teamates had nothing to say about the matter.
It made me go fucking insane and really ruined my night. With another support, we would have had a chance, but 4v5 was really hard to live up to. The fact that everyone that spoke up said that the onus is on me for not accepting my mercy's demand. Especially with the fight we were putting up. Have the community's brains rotten that much over time that we believe that someone who throws game is not at fault for doing so if their teamate is not playing to their wishes?
Cherry on top is they sent me a friend request right after the game, but then cancelled it before i could even accept it. I sent one back and told them that they were stupid and that what they did is by definition a bannable offence and to enjoy the ban, before unfriending them. I haven't logged onto the gane since me reporting them, i hope they got banned for that, but i know it can take a bit to get results with the report system on this game.
I feel like I would benefit from a healing denied/prevented statistic. I main Lucio and Rein and lately I've started playing open queue for warmup games. I've only just recently started to notice how impactful the Damage passive is, I think you can feel it when you don't have it on your team. I'm shocked about it but actually think 3 tanks 2 supports < 1 tank, 2 damage 2 supports these days.
While I think they do focus far too much on balancing for win-rates instead of balancing for fun... (No widow nerf is tragic, even if she didn't NEED it)... I've strangely been having a lot of fun playing QP today... Maybe it's just day one of a new season, but I'm starting to wonder if the DPS passive change might actually be goated. I could focus enemies down on soldier, sojourn felt impactful, things actually died. Idk maybe I'm crazy but I haven't had this much fun on OW in a while
They dont balance off of winrates, they nerfed mauga and buffed torb and symmettra. They also arent nerfing heros with high winrates like venture, rein, and lucio, they also buffed 2 of those this patch. They obviously still use it but its not the main way and its a good metric to work off of. I think the reason they dont nerf widow is because you cant get rid of the one shot without dumpstering her, and you cant nerf anything else without making her just feel worse. Changing anything but the one shot wont make her better to play against and nerfing cooldowns or the charge rate just makes her less fun without making the 1 shot any less annoying.
@@Rando3210 Yeah so true. They balance for the BP sales (usually indirectly affecting the viability/fun of mythic receiver), and sometimes for problem heroes (like Juno atm).
@@Deusaga Heros being good doesnt affect skins sales, there popularity and design does. Buffing heros doesnt make them more popular, but it does make people who already play them play them more, so it doesnt have a major effect on skin sales. The games being unbalanced makes people play less, and if people arent playing they dont buy skins. It doesnt make sense to balance around skins for any remotely competitive game. If they did they would have to plan out balance patches months in advanced, which would be impossible to keep remotely balanced if you did that.
@@Rando3210 You can see the patterns for yourself. Go look at all the Season patch notes ever since they stopped putting heroes in the BP. Every one has buffs/nerfs that indirectly affect the viability and fun of the mythic holder.

You can see even in this battepass there isnt any correlation between heros who got buffs and heros who got skins, only 2 heros in the pass go balance changes and most people can agree both were justified. The changes also dont effect the other heros in the battlepass signficantly either.
It makes sense some heros who got skins also got buffed, but there isnt a correlation between buffed heros and heros who got skins. Every balance change they can make you can argue affects a hero who got a skin positively in some way, but you can do that for every other hero in the game too. Junkerqueen last season got nerfed and a skin, doesnt mean they nerf heros who get battlepass skins.
When I saw it I felt like there just wasn't a lot to it. Maybe there will be more with the 6v6 test. Presumably they are getting ready to make the test as good as they think they can make it and preparing for a future where 6v6 is potentially the future. Doesn't make a lot of sense to change a bunch of heroes and then change them again for the new mode.

I disagree with Spilo's take that Widow isn't overtuned because she has a 50% win rate in masters and grandmasters. Wouldn't it be that if one team picks Widow, the other team has to pick Widow to contest and therefore, between two Widows, one has to lose and therefore she would have a 50% win rate? I could be missing something though, I do have much less time than Spilo does
They dont look at mirror matches when determining hero winrate.
The 50% tells us that if your team has a widow, you have a statistical 50% chance to win or lose the game against any other combination of heroes.
there's a lot more nuance to it, and you may be right, mate. I hate widow as much as anyone, just doing my best to provide some nuance to the argument.

she's the worst performing tank in the game by a large margin according to overbuff (devs have confirmed is fairly close to the real numbers). I don't agree with how she's buffed, but we can criticize patches without making stuff up. The fortify gun and movement speed changes awhile back were massive nerfs. The hero desperately needs identity besides existing as a golden brick of poo, and this patch doesn't change that, but she definitely needs help.

@@CoachSpilothe reason she preforms low is because everyone plays her especially the low ranks. Because of that she is obviously going to have a lower win rate. Win rates are not representing the actually power a hero has.
@@CoachSpilodid we forget that the pick rate is a thing or something? Win rate will always be skewed due to the variable of pick rate. Look at both statistic as well as compare and contrast on both low ELO and high ELO.
Orissa, Mauga and Hog are the three most unhealthiest designs and balances currently and will continue to be if they don't outright pull them out and rework the ground up or have other tanks to actually be fully rework for 5v5 format instead of a wishy-washy changes they got.

I’ve come back after not playing for over 2 years & I cannot stand how pretty much nothing can die anymore. Everything has too much health now (Hanzo, my favourite Hero, can barely even kill anybody anymore). Most Heroes have infinity movement, can instantly teleport, instantly be invulnerable, instantly heal or be made to do so by multiple team members in a chain. Half the abilities have been reworked to do everything with no downside. It’s just fucking frustrating. 6v6 needs to come back & fix half the heroes tbh.

The no-reg bug is worse than ever, seeing the particle effect for arrows hitting a Hero & not registering. I’ve noticed that since 2018 & it’s never been talked about at all which baffles me, perhaps it’s just my game or something🤷♂️

Up to now, Illari has really been more of a dps with a pylon (and a very weak healing beam) to me. The fact that her ult is purely offensive just reinforces that. She's like a better Soldier 76 lol.

Idk for me every change that does nothing is devs not taking a step in the right direction, which is bad because they already past the time the step was needed far too much. So even the changes that are "fine" do not suffice
I’m so confused… I’m pretty encouraged and optimistic in regards to Hazard, 6v6, heck I even quite like the current Battlepass. But EVERY time I check the patch notes it’s like rolling the dice to see which tank no one likes is gonna be showing up in every game. Guess it’s horse-season again.
Tbh this patch feels like the devs were too busy balancing 6v6 and then they were like oh shit we need to make a new patch for the next season. Hopefully thats what happened.

I'm not getting put into lobbies found when queuing and the game gives me mm bans for "leaving". Looking it up, people have had the issue for years.
Any patch that doesn't fix something that game breaking is kinda ass. If the connecting issue itself can't be fixed (why not retry the connection?), then at least don't punish people for leaving games they literally never got to enter?

I think Spilo is being way to passive towards these changes. Yeah the meta game won't change too much but isn't that a problem right now? Widow is running rampant and Sombra still doesn't feel good to play. Buffing Orisa right after we just got out of a horse meta a month and a half ago isn't a good look. All Soldier got was a biotic field buff. And they're buffing deployables again which has shown to be problematic time and time again. I refuse to believe that this balance team plays this game more than once a week.

In all seriousness I hate the orisa buff but love the torb hammer buff and LOOOOOVEEE the projectile size nerf and want exponentially more of that until it's the same as the pre season 9 values lmao
I think so many heroes in OW are unfun to play against when they're decent and when they're weak, you dread having them on your team. Orisa being one.

I wouldn’t mind the turret buffs if he couldn’t heal it mid fight. He can just set it up on Gib or Dorado high ground, standing behind it for cover, and you have to kill this thing in the middle of battle that has better aim than the other 9 players on the map. It’s simply not fun. It sucks to do. It’s dumb. Don’t let torn heal his stupid turret and definitely don’t give it more health if he can.

The hit size reduced is so stupid. first making the game braindead for everyone since you hit everything, now going back and people actually have to aim again. i was completely confused why i didnt hit stuff anymore... quality dev team
One day we'll look back and realize that in the chase for competitive we killed the fun of this game and with it, cannibalized the playerbase. Oh well, rivals is just fun.
The Soldier self-heal cooldown buff is the only good patch I see here

There are a lot of cool little things but most of them fall to quality of life changes or largely inconsequential
This patch, to me, felt like they just wanted to put out a patch, not because they had very many good ideas for patch notes and changes, but simply because it's a new season. Underwhelming, milk toast changes
I don't like the Illari change not because of balance but because the range already doesn't match the animation, it reads very poorly
The rail gun gap wouldn’t be so bad if it reloaded her gun a little (if you do a certain amount of rail shot damage perhaps?)
Because as is, you have the gap, AND you still need to reload so you’ve got a 2 kinds of down time between shots

How I long for streamer balancing patches. Any of the basic ones could with a days work give value and interest.
Now in plat/diamond there are mechanically good Widows every match just throwing since they do nothing to help with the objective. They K/D is good, but they get the kills when the teamfight is already being lost or outside of them altogether, but "Widow op" so they never change🙈
Orisa is a horse, give her a charge ability that acts like BOB with the hit up on impact or something
regenerative burst on Bap might need a full rework, like tying it to his healing fire- such as, making it a super charged version of his heal shot that works on him as well, like loading a super bullet for one bullet- you can aim it and send it away from you to hit far away allies (travel time in mind) and is overall very effective and strong, but requires much more thought and placement, and timing
