Ive been trying to tackle the starter clutch on my 09 Raptor 250r. Ive gotten far enough to where im at use of the flywheel puller step. My puller i got which was supposed to be equivalent to the Yamaha puller, ended up being to small of a diameter. WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR flywheel PULLER?
Hey man I like that you made a video how to do it but plz do not ever say 5/16 or 8 mm bc one those are 2 different sizes might be really close but if you use the wrong one you will strip the head of the blog and some times that can be a beatch
You’re correct. 8mm and 5/16” (7.94mm) are different sizes. That’s a .06 difference and my guess is most sockets of the same brand have more of a variation than that .06mm.
There are several sockets that are almost if not exactly the same size this being one 19mil and 3/4 being another… they’re so close a lot of times you will only get one or the other in a cheap set of wrenches
I put mines in the shop to fix it worked for a while and started doing it again is there any starter clutch you can buy that can eliminate this headache in the long run???
Could you tell me the diameter of the puller and bolts thread size ? I can’t buy one right now so I’m going to try throw one together with what I have. Thanks
So what was the reason behind the changing of your starter clutch? I've watched lots of these and nobody says "WHY" Were you having issues pulling on the starter rope recoil? Was the starter making making a noise when being engaged? Even with the spark plug out of the head was this engine very hard to turn over by hand??
@@fortnitemobilevidvid9643 My grizzly still cranks but it's making a slight noise when the start button is pressed, so the starter one way clutch bearing is starting to fail. I've just ordered one so I'm going to tackle that in a few weeks.
because a friend of mine wants to fix his 4 wheel motocycle but he doesnt speak english so he asked me to translate the video so he could know what that was, what function does it have ?
Katya Arreguin if he can not crank his 4wheeler by the clutch and the starter button on the left side of the handle bar (but he can push start it) the culprit is the starter clutch
There's a real simple way to get the magneto off the tapered end of the crank without having to put alot of pressure on the puller. Put a few lbs of force on the puller and then give the head of the center bolt a couple moderate taps with a ballpeen or mini-sledge, it will always pop off in short order.
There's really not much to it. 1) Put puller on 2) Tighten puller with a moderate amount of torque (15-20ft lbs to start) 3) Take hammer, give the center bolt that is pushing on the crankshaft a decent few taps with the hammer (*you don't need to hit it very hard*, the point is to send vibration down the bolt which will translate to the shaft and break the friction seal that is holding the magneto to the tapered end) 4) If it doesn't work the first time, tighten the puller a bit more (another half-turn or so) and do it again When it does work, the magneto will simply pop off with relatively little drama. What's great about doing it this way is that you don't need to tighten the crap out of the puller to get it off, meaning you don't have to worry about stripping the threads in the magneto, which for some reason Yamaha made quite shallow and therefore weak. The other benefits are that you won't risk mushrooming the tapered end of the shaft. I've done several Raptor mags this way and a half-dozen on other machines and it's far easier/less risky than using sheer force to pull it off.
Nero Fluidis I gotcha! what you missed (due to editing in order to keep vid to 15 minutes) is where I tried the hammer and then an impact and it didn't budge. Therefore resulting in my brute force, lol.

Great video. 😊

Curious what brand and where you bought?
Don't get me lying, bought it off eBay tho.
@@markchapman8101 bro did you flush oil first or you dont have to??
You gotta see it threw my boy 🤣 that last screw
Is it a reverse thread on the clutch starter?
I am not 100%. I would thinks so though. Consult a repair manual or local Yamaha dealership. Or google!
MoneyPit Garage it is not!! Broke the damn crankshaft because torqued in the reverse direction!
