    Thanks..new to the hobby here, 7 months. This was the 1st plant I bought, 2inches tall, and after 7months your right, the thing grew 2 feet tall, by 12 inches wide. New growth popping up from the gravel around it. I’m constantly trimming the height and long branches outward to keep it contained. It was the perfect choice along with the java moss, so my community fish have a great place to chill out in.

    I love wisteria. Great plant, but it really does grow like a weed. After a few trimmings, mine had so many branches that the kuhli loaches were using it for a jungle gym.

    I float wisteria in my Guppy tanks to soak up the excess nitrates. About every 10 days I pull it all out, take off a bunch of baby plants and put those back, dump the rest, rinse and repeat. The stuff is a nitrate sponge!

    just planted some of that in my wife's 15g Betta tank (dirted tank) very fast growing. low light, no c02, no fertz!

    Great plant. Grows so fast I couldn't stop it from growing. This would grow in an engine block. 😏. I love it but couldn't keep it anymore because it took over my tanks! I love it for 36 gallon tanks and up....

    Wisteria is definitely one of my favorites, I'm running some in a 10g with ferts and CO2 and it grows ridiculously fast. I put a ton of the excess into another tank but its a very lightly stocked tank so it all melted from lack of nitrates 😔

    I just planted my 20g long guppy tank with wisteria so I'm looking forward to the update to see how we've each done with it. My only concern with mine is that I'm using a stingray as the light and I'm not sure it gives off enough light to really be effective.

    • @SteenfottAquatics
      @SteenfottAquatics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stingray should be able to grow this easily in a shallow tank like a 20g long =)

    When I bought mine the roots were rotted off, couldn't see under label. Salvaged 3 green tops and stuck it in gravel substrait with root tabs, do you think it will sprout root shoots like a cutting.

  • @ryanwilson5936

    With wisteria, honestly, you could have just cut all the stems flush with the top of the pot and called it a day. Especially, if you planned on floating it for a few weeks.

  • @cheryllong995

    What kind of moss do you have on the left side of your tank & is it fastened down or free floating ?

    • @SteenfottAquatics
      @SteenfottAquatics  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Java moss, free floating, although its since attached to the airline and sponge filter.

    Hey Bob, Do you ever quarantine new plants? Have you ever had a bad experience with new plants except with snails or duckweed? Regards.

    • @SteenfottAquatics
      @SteenfottAquatics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the source, if the plants are coming from overseas then i will quarantine. Customs requires them to be sprayed with pesticides.

    Since it propagates quick can the trimmings be used to feed vegetarian fish like silver dollars or Buenos Aires tetras or is it toxic?

  • @steverogers4031

    I have found wisteria to be a very slow growing plant. In fact it's stems turn brown and it eventually dies. Meanwhile water sprite is growing very rapidly. I think you are incorrect when you say it's the fastest growing plant. I have hard water. Could that be the issue?

    • @anonymoose116
      @anonymoose116 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's something unique to your set up. I used to hate wysteria because it grew CRAZY fast and would sprout up all over the tank! It was almost as bad as duckweed.

    • @steverogers9275
      @steverogers9275 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anonymoose116 So do all of you who say it grows so fast have hard or soft water? Duckweed yes grows fast. Wisteria does not grow fast at all for me.

    • @anonymoose116
      @anonymoose116 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@steverogers9275 any water in my tank would be soft due to tannins from driftwood.

  • @lloyd011721

    wisteria is in my opinion the king of the easy live plants. it is also unfortunately one of the plants that will suck the most nutrients, to the point of starving out some of the more demanding plants.

  • @UnheatednoProblem
    @UnheatednoProblem 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    problem i have with wysteria is the same problem i have with moss gets 2 bushy and collects detritus like mad and unless you shake it out or blow it out with a baster or powerhead it eventually turns into an algae magnet

  • @dlealchicago

    Would this grow well in sand substrate?

    • @SteenfottAquatics
      @SteenfottAquatics  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would do ok in sand, it would take awhile to get established however.

    • @anonymoose116
      @anonymoose116 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SteenfottAquatics I disagree. In the wild it grows in sand. I only use sand in my tanks and it grows grows grows! It's insane how quick this stuff grows in sand.
      The key is good lighting and fert.
