    I also would like to add that in Jannah (Paradise) one of the great joys (I personally think it is second only to seeing God) is that there are no negative feelings at all, no fear, no sorrow, no regret, no anger, not even inner grudges (15-47) but instead there is companionship, joyful discussions that are full of wonder and awe about how it was an arduous journey until this great destination (52-25) May Allah grant us Jannah :)

    A couple of years ago I walked into a small little middle eastern cafe in Virginia and heard a familiar voice. And there he was, Sheikh Hamza Yusuf sitting at the table talking to someone about spiritual matters. He was with someone from the mosque. I had the pleasure of being introduced and talking to him. He is such a lovely, humble and friendly man in person!!!! I must get this book!!!!!

    I loved how you said that our deeds are necessary condition to enter paradise BUT not sufficient!!! Imam Zain Al Abideen (Ali son of Hussein son of Ali Ibn Abi Taleb) explains why is that. Because whenever you say a prayer, or do a deed, you actually will use your mouth or hands (or whatever other bodily part) those were provided by Allah. Even for uttering the word Shokr (Thanks) you need to say Shork, and you can go to infinity and you will never thank Allah enough to counter his bounties.

      So in essence we live in a world where the attitude is, look at me, I did it my way, I need not be thankful for anything as everything I do is done with my own barehands or the hands of fellow humans.
      In the 21st century the arrogance of man thinks he has outsmarted God.
      Well I look at the stars at night pondering things so much greater than me.womdering why am I here, is there a point anything???
      Who can I, or we as humans be that arrogant to think we can understand infinity?
      Science thinks that it has made God retreat, well the best for us are fools, we are imprisoned in a universe we will never fathom it's like being born in a concrete box and wondering is anything outside the box.
      The term Allahu Akbar is often used by people in the west to describe someone about to blow themselves up.
      But perhaps it's just more like
      Allahu Akbar
      I'm am insignificant
      So tiny
      Come let's give thanks to a God, a creator, an eternal force Ok can't understand
      Say Allah who IS ONE
      Allah the eternal refuge
      A god who wasn't born nor give birth
      A god with no equal no counterpart whatso ever.
      If all the interlect and understanding of everyone who was, is Anne will be was multiplied trillions of times our God still has no equivalent
      Alhamduallahi Rabil Al ameen
      All praise to Allah, creator of the world's ( The known universe and the unseen world's beyond the human realms.
      Perhaps to fall on our knees, and place our heads on the ground and honour the greatness of God

    Although it cannot be described, when we are still in the world, we don't need to go to the wonders of the sky to know the greatness of Allah, Ali RA once said that, to know the greatness of Allah in the sky, we don't need to go to the sky, because Allah is Great both on earth and on the sky. Like happiness that is difficult to express in words when someone has just converted to Islam, it is also difficult to make an explanation of pleasure in heaven, what is clear is that the greatest pleasure is looking at the face of Allah.

    Yes, believing Allah and doing good works is pre-requisite for one to enter Paradise, but the litte good work we do is not enough compared to what paradise is worth. So ultimately its the mercy of God that one enters the Garden.

    The translation of the Quran by Abdullah Yusuf ALi, has an interesting essay on paradise. A mathematician will find amazing answers to the perplexities of mathematics, so too will a philosopher, a musician, an engineer, a medical doctor, a historian, a writer or anyone else who is passionate about his/her field of study. In heaven, maybe our "minds" will come to terms with the infinite nature of knowledge, and the culmination of all knowledge is the knowledge of God. ("seeing God")

    I am not into Sufism but one poem of Rabi’a encapsulates what a lot of people feel about heaven and hell. This is what she had to say:
    O my Lord, if I worship you
    from fear of hell, burn me in hell.
    If I worship you from hope of Paradise, bar me from its gates.
    But if I worship you for yourself alone, grant me then the beauty of your Face.
    TRANSLATED BY JANE HIRSHFIELD
    It is said that once, some men of learning and piety came to her and said, "The Most High has crowned His chosen saints with the gift of performing miracles, but such privileges have never been granted to a woman. How did you attain to such a high degree?"
    “What you say is true," she answered, "you see, women have never been so infatuated with themselves as men, nor have they ever claimed divinity. Perhaps that's why they are not as visible as you are."(By Sudhamahi Regunathan)

    Some of Philosopher may think Paradise and hellfire is just a concept. for an Atheist it is just concept of "Good" in this world, however some of Philosopher that after life is make sense not because of Salvation,payment, or judgement but from logic it self from the Logic between Existance vs Nihilism.
    Paradise is Existance mean while Hell fire is Nihilism (this is very deep understanding)
    Person with "Good" express love and mercy, meanwhile Person with Nihilism express with violence, destruction and Annihilation.
    Depending to God Image and God decree create between the balance of that the salvation took place to bring them into Paradise or Hell.

    If I remember correctly, there's a Hadith which clarifies the whole situation of the description of Paradise, every "carnal" or earthly pleasure described is all just the appetizer, the initial hospitality before the real reward, and "what no eye has seen, ear has heard, or heart has imagined" is the real reward, the description is to provide incentive

      I dont know if there is a paradise but in my research ive found the following that everyone is longing for in life. Perhaps a paradise can offer this.
      * Justice
      One of the more primary needs with which if not fulfilled all others become a meaningless quest. The need to correct all the suffering of all beings, to redeem all moral efforts that were frustrated, to fix the damage that beings have experienced & to make known all worthwhile ideals, beings & realities.
      * Peace
      A state that is filled with calmness, freedom of anxiety, sorrow , inadequacies of the self, psychological & physical rest
      * Satisfaction
      Where all realities & ideals are fulfilled to the maximum if not infinitely
      * Purity of Will
      The self has complete free will to exercise itself in any way it wishes in absolute authenticity and harmony with environment & others
      * Social Harmony
      This involves a world where every self has transcended its own ego to the point that every being can exist with each other not only in harmony & peace, but also in a permanent states of respect, trust, goodness, love, friendship & altruism for every being including family, friends, strangers, animals & all other sentient beings. In this way every being is spiritually connected to each other in desiring each others maximum happiness & closeness to each other transcending all forms of diversity such as species, race, creed, ideas, beliefs, social status, intelligence, health & wealth etc
      * Love
      As with social harmony, this means all ideals of love, platonic, romantic or universal are fulfilled in perfect forms free of deficiencies & pain
      * Companionship, Goodness, Compassion
      The ideal of friendship and social bliss are fulfilled with sincerity, free of all emptiness whilst maximising individualities
      * Light & Knowledge
      This is the awareness of absolute truth & reality, insight into the nature of the cosmos, the mysteries of the unknown, knowledge & wisdom of every beings sufferings, moral efforts, rewards & consequences, intrinsic value & status of all beings
      * Beauty
      The fulfilment of all forms of art, form & aesthetic longings
      * Wonder
      A state of absolute & permanent astonishment, awe, admiration & fascination of all forms of reality encompassing all categories
      * Joy
      The absolute glee & triumph at success & achievement & the excitement & euphoria of experiencing beauty, wonder & all other forms of happiness.
      * Bliss
      The state of perfect happiness & total ego transcendence including absolute absorption, ecstasy & euphoria of the heart, soul, mind & body. This can include all other forms of spiritual awareness, wonder, joy, love etc
      * Creativity
      The need for productivity & creation of all valuable goods & joys through work, play & rest. This can also include creativity at the magical level (manipulation of elements & reality) & the scientific level (the use of limits, laws & rationality)
      * Everlasting Desire & Purpose
      The need for everlasting meaning & purpose in an eternal world absent of anhedonia & lack of motivation & desire
      * Fun & Pleasure
      * This includes all forms of activities & states that bring bodily & soulful happiness. They can include anything from primal release, pain relief, sensual, sexual, spiritual, play, humour, mental & emotional
      * Achievement & Evolution
      The need to evolve, & achieve all sorts of feats, moral, creative, intellectual, spiritual, hedonistic etc & achieve fulfilment of competition, cooperation, productivity & challenge.
      * Drama
      The use of conflicts, competition, storytelling, adventure, challenge, heightened perceptions and emotions.

    As Salamu Alakum Paul and to your audience.
    The greatest punishment for me that is not being in the blaze of hellfire or being tormented eternally to the point where new flesh must be brought forth to experience the turmoil. No! The greatest punishment is not havong God Almighty not gazing at me and I myself denied seeing my Lord.
    If God blesses me paradise it will not satisy my heart nor soul if I can not be in his company or to see him. I would happily give up paradise and remain in Hell forever as long as I am comforted by the knowledge that I may get to see my beloved Creator.
    These are truly heavy statements which I constantly dwell on everyday. To truly be honest with myself I must say is my own personal Hell. I am struggling with my own Jihad and genuinely on the path where I do what I mentioned above.

      @ mkq0007, correction, those who will go to hell cannot see the creator Allah .. seeing Allah is a mercy, peace and the most beautiful thing ever and the ultimate pleasure for those who see him .. that's why only those who will enter paradise ( heaven ) can see Allah and those who go to hell are forbidden from seeing Allah. and Allah knows the best.

      @@ashahadalmuthaab793 I absolutely 100% agree with what you say, what I am trying to convey is I would be content and pleased with my Lord wherever he places me in the hereafter as long as I may see him.
      I wish to be what Allah ask of me to become. Truly be a slave of Allah. Which I truly struggle within myself.
      I also understand the true love from Allah is conditional love. To gain his gaze I must love my beloved Prophet more than myself. I must emulate my beloved Prophet with great excellence for he is the greatest embodiment of love, mercy, and peace . These characteristics which belongs to Allah in pure perfection are qualities that men also have within our selves a gift from our Lord to recognize him and to get close to him. He placed Muhammad (SAW) to show us how we can get close both to the prophet and Allah himself.
      In conclusion all I am trying to say the grand prize is not just heaven but to gaze upon my Lord and to be in his company. To be his true slave. In order to get this reciprocated love is conditional. Allah great condition for his slave to truly obtain his absolute love is to strive on the path that our prophet laid out for us.

    I object to the claim -- quoted from Shaykh Hamza Yusuf here -- that the Prophet, peace be upon him, was using symbolic language when describing Paradise. For when he experienced Paradise being brought so near that he tried to reach for its grapes -- commenting that if he had taken some the Muslims would have eaten from them "till the Last Day", or something like that -- it is clear he was reaching for incomparably more excellent counterparts of the grapes we already know and enjoy here; the Companions actually saw him reaching out for something, so there was no symbolism in this talk: there were actual, physical grapes -- though infinitely more perfect in every respect than the grapes we know -- which he was almost able to grasp, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

    Our DNA will be such that we will not age nor will we die nor will we have any conception boredom. Bliss is an everlasting constant spiritual motion that will be everlasting. We will therefore not get tired or sweat or feel heat or cold. We will not spit or attend toilet needs.
    We will be like the Angels but we will eat drink and have spouses and children if we desire them but most will not.
    You can meet your children or parents but only if you are in a higher station in Paradise so you can go to them by flying horse's but they cannot ascend to see you.
    The significant issue is we will be made of earth will be made of water but will have unique DNA that will be extraordinary

    I wouldn't take seriously folks like Sheikh Hamza Yusuf and Yasser Qadhi, who always try to find and add something in the religion, as if prophet Mohamed and his companion weren't masterful in explaining the complete religion of Allah. That's why they always mention weak Hadiths from the likes Ibnu Qazali, in order to please the ear of non believers.
    It's the duty of Muslims to preserve genuine Sunnah that prophet Mohamed left to us, no matter whether anyone likes or not.
