As a fellow vintage toy collector, I feel for this guy. It really puts things in perspective, how fleeting life is. I hope those cool items get sold at an estate sale or antique store and not just trashed, some of those things are very rare and/or desirable. There's also a lot of salvage here, even for lumber and whatnot, so I hope they make the most of it. At least then it can all amount to something.

This is one of the saddest waste of a man’s life I’ve ever seen. Someone has to be in charge of the will or an executor of the estate. Demolishing all that is such a waste. So sad.

I dare to say that the value of all of that stuff could easily pay off the value of that house if someone put the time and effort into selling it all. As a vintage tricycle collector for 35 years, I recognized the two tricycles you saw in the beginning of the video with the bicycles. The smaller tricycle was made by the Junior Toy Co. and dates to around 1950 give or take a couple years. The larger chain driven tricycle farther back in the room was made by the Frank F. Taylor Co. and dates to the same period as the Junior tricycle. Some of those toys really need to be rescued due to their historical and collector value.

There is EASILY $15,000 worth of stuff in that mansion. Gamers would pay $150-$300 just for that Panasonic TV, working or not(it can be fixed), that SEALED Terminator doll is obviously a $500 collectable. I used to collect and have since sold-off my collection very recently.

My brother in law’s brother had or maybe still has a mansion in Barrington Hills. He tried selling back in 2011. My brother-in-law was maintaining the house after his brother moved to Raleigh North Carolina. He would take care of the grounds and the inside in case someone came to look at it to buy. It was 20,000 ft.². It would take him seven hours to vacuum. My brother in law died in 2012 and my sister in 2020. So I don’t know what ever happened to his brothers house.

Is there not one family member that cares to gather his wonderful possessions that he spent his whole life upon collecting?!! Someone needs to take the time to investigate who owned this home and make serious arrangements to transfer everything over to a new owner who can enjoy it!!! I hope that someone that sees this video will help and do the right thing!! I'm sure that this man's soul is restless, and he can't move on into resting in peace until a kind person will rescue his legacy!! Sad that it is all being left behind because we all know that it will soon be destroyed!!! THIS IS SO SAD!!!

You can tell this was grandads house because of the swing set in the backyard and the bed downstairs in what looks to be an office or a library but not an actual bedroom because there is no closet or en suite, he (or she) probably wasn’t able to go upstairs to the primary bedroom anymore, he was clearly a successful businessman as you can tell by the premium early 1990s finishes throughout, he probably built this house in his 50s but when he passed away in his 80s or so and the house was left to his kids, maybe he had one just one child, and they tried to refresh it and sell it but depending on the market or where it’s located, or possible back taxes, it didn’t sell and they weren’t able to keep up with the mortgage payments or property taxes, eventually it got forclosed on and repossessed by the bank and sometimes it’s just too hard of a struggle emotionally for family members to deal with financial problems, or loss and mortality which is why the huge project of sorting through those toys in the garage never happened, it’s a shame but it’s hard to go through your parents stuff when they’re gone, and sometimes people just want to move on, and when the bank took repossession they’re not thinking on a personal level and organising an auction for old toys, and when they were not able to sell the property it was scheduled for demolition to prevent crime and vandalism, or maybe someone else wanted the land to build their own dream home, and the circle of life continues..it shouldn’t be sad, it should give you perspective on what really matters, but someone should come up with a plan to rescue those toys because no one else will and it would pay honour to the man who cared enough to collect them and I bet he wouldn’t mind at all that you guys documented his legacy with this walkthrough..really interesting thanks for sharing

I'm wondering if this owner was more than just a collector, but more of a vintage dealer. Sometimes people have a lot of stuff with the intent of wheeling and dealing. When you mentioned some kind of sale, you could possibly have been right for all we know, but we don't know. Having that many toys for someone who's not a dealer would be a bit much. Vintage toys may be nice, but I don't think you should have every single one imaginable since it would take up way too much space. Instead, have all the things you need to make a house a home, and just have a select few things from the Vintage era, especially stuff that meant the most to you that has a story behind it. I personally would take a room and have a few horse rides in it and maybe a wide open space for an actual working carousel that I helped design. I'd also have an inground pool and trampoline. The outdoor pool should have some kind of open-close gazebo. Plus, it would probably be good if it was also a Jacuzzi
Regarding all of those toys that would be in the dump when the Mansion is demolished, it would be better to take those toys to a children's hospital and give them to the sick kids. I remember back in the 90s around Christmas time when someone even made a gingerbread tower that was also taken to a children's hospital and given to all the sick kids. Giving those toys to all the sick kids at a children's hospital would be far better than letting them go to a dump. Perhaps even restoring the mansion and turning it into a recovery place away from the hospital would be far better than wasting it. Not only would it save on medical bills, but it would be a great morale booster for patients of any age to come here free of charge to recover. Another idea is to turn this into a children's Recovery Place away from the hospital and set up all those vintage toys for them to play with during their recovery. I'll bet some of those cancer patients would really love something like that. They should also have an adult play area because we all need some level of play time to boost our morale, especially if we're recovering from something. When I see this mansion, I see possible potential, especially where the pool is involved for physical therapy

It's such a shame it had to be demolished. From the look of the house there was little to no damp in there, so theoretically it could be lived in. As for the toys, that large Spiderman would have been coming home with me. And that last 'Hot Wheels' truck, I had the exact same one when I was a kid back in the 60's/70's, I remember it well.
At the beginning there was a greenish pedal car, in the garage, maybe. It looked like an old Aston Martin style pedal car and I think it may have been worth quite a bit.
I'm not sure I could go somewhere like that and not take something/s, it just seems so much of a waste to scrap it all.

Instead of demolishing this home, what they need to do is round up a bunch of homeless and bring them here for free room and board in exchange for fixing the place up and restoring it. Someone can come in and oversee them and watch over them to make sure they're doing what they need to do and have everything they need. This would be a great opportunity for the homeless to have the first start in getting back on their feet and being able to live in a home they helped restore. Find out how many bedrooms are in there and put as many homeless in that home as possible with all of them working together to restore the mansion. When it's fully restored, it can be turned over into their ownership as a group ownership along with everything they need to be able to stay there. This can be a formerly homeless group home. Similar to Habitat for humanity, they can help restore a home for the opportunity of part ownership

It could be a cool house, it has much more potential.
However, honestly for Barrington Hills this house looks like the builder of $200k homes, not McMansions like this.
I live close to Barrington Hills & have worked in many homes there as I do private home health care.
This fixtures, the doors, the trim, the handles, ugh.... Everything looks like cheep cheep & tacky.
So you were right when you made a comment about not being too fond of the toilets & such.
Great video! Really enjoyed it as it's in my backyard! Very cool.
    Thanks! ❤

Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but those Barbies are most certainly not worth "a lot of money", especially in such an incomplete possibly damaged state. Those right there are late 90s/early 2000s Barbies, I would know since I'm a doll collector personally. Doll prices are absolutely insane because of scalpers and resellers, so there is no real "value" for a standard doll that was mass produced by the thousands, especially from the more recent decades.
Wanted to comment this, so that way people don't get the wrong idea. Hope this is helpful!

    • @yourthaiguy
      @yourthaiguy หลายเดือนก่อน

Simple. The cost of rehabbing it exceeds the costs of tearing it down. Been abandoned too long and the incredible cost of fixing the damage, mold and totally outdated appliances far exceeds the value. Best to tear it down and sell off the land where a new developer can put up a spec home. This is why you see a lot of mega mansions unsold in Europe. Cost of repairing greater than its land value..

Barrington Hills was one of the richest and most elite addresses in the United States, about the early 80's and much before. If someone mentioned living in Barrington, they were swimming in Big money.
