Bseries tip number 1, if you hear clunking or scraping sounds at full lock check the ball joints. They start to seperate long before they let go. When they seperate, the ball joint and control arm start to tap and scrape the inside of the front brake disc. Never seen one snap, must be an aftermarket cheapshit ball joint. Either that of you need to stop getting air off speed humps. Haha
Haha I’ll try. But yeah there were no obvious warning signs. Just replaced it and the steering is heaps lighter, my guess is it ran dry and it got hot and expanded the ball to the point where the housing grabbed it hard enough to stop it from moving and she snapped off. The steering didn’t feel heavy but it’s heaps lighter now, it just crept up on me.. it’s a worry
with all the pot holes around at the moment after all the rain we have had, wheel bearing & ball joint failure seem to be high now, I had to do my right a month ago after hitting one...and apprentice rattling gun the wheel nuts on is a pain, when I get tires done, I always loosen, then re tighten them again to make sure, getting caught on the side of the road. you were very lucky.....
Unfortunately I've seen this a few times. One guy had it happen to him on the freeway. Guard was destroyed. I'm a Falcon guy but for shit the bed with these ball joints. Happened to mum at less than 10km over a speed bump. Lucky there wasn't any damage to the guard there Fg's got the territory designed arms, where the ball joints were a bit better built. In a failure this wouldn't happen.
I replaced the left one a year ago but no idea on the right. List time I jacked it up and gave it a shake it was all good.. no grease nipples on them.. I’m guessing it dried up and seized with the heat from driving down there..
@@oldskoolonly Bit of a worry... No warning signs in retrospect? I suppose you'd just have to go off the condition of the boots; if cracked, the clock's ticking...
climbing a gutter full lock and raj the towy lol

@@oldskoolonly lucky man! Any idea how many kms were on those ball joints?

I take it that the ball had seized in the cup and the end got twisted off while your were steering lock to lock?
Yep that’s my guess

Nope, no warning. When it went I thought id broken something in the rear end. Wasn’t till I got out I saw the front wheel sticking out
That the original ball joint? or when was it replaced
No idea on the age of the joint
i wonder if they stretched the wheel studs, happened to us had to change all the studs on the entire vehicle.
Happy new year an hopefully not an omen for your future projects.
