You can’t go wrong with a bone stock slash, perfect for those just getting into rc. Spares are plentiful and it’s infinitely upgradable plus it a ton of fun!
100 agree!
I've been trying to break mine for 2 months now lol they are really good for the money
Have you broke it yet ? I got mine 3 days ago and have ran the crud out off it 😂@sjf1981
Brushless 2wd slash is the way to go. Total blast to drive.
Yep, it is a fun drive.
Yes however a lot of people don’t have that kind of money to spend on a hobby
@@UNKOWNDRIVER_1 $300? Seems reasonable and a lot cheaper than many other hobbies, especially for the thrill it provides!
Bought my Slash 2WD along to your RC kicks event at the Pits in April. They are great fun. Also worth mentioning how tough they are. Bashed mine several times and still nothing broken.
those as it sits are so much fun to race on a club level. they are also lipo ready with a change in the esc settings and a lipo really improves the power. we do a few "tricks" that is withen the stock rules that really helps with performance. but again they are a blast to race.
You're bang on in regards to buying an entry level vehicle and immediately upgrading it. That's why I appreciate the different levels of the same vehicle that Traxxas offers. You get the upgraded parts without having to pay for the cheaper parts, or doing the work (I especially appreciate not having to do the work haha). Like you, I'm a big proponent of use it until it breaks, and THEN upgrade.
A great video mate. As a starter truck goes, it is one of the easiest to work on. Unlike say Tamiyas lol everything is spaced out, so learning about servo, steering set up, changing esc/motor, removing the tranny cover so you can see the spur/pinion and adjust the mesh etc. This is the truck that got me back into RC after 35yrs and from there I managed to get Tamiyas. I’m sure this truck and working on it gave me a solid understanding of rc cars and trucks (so short course trucks) not only fixing and replacing parts but say how adjusting toe and camber affects handling. Its all so easy on this rwd truck.
It’s worth noting that I think when the Traxxas Slash originally came out back in the day (1990s / early 2000s?) it was the original Short Course Truck. It was based on the TORC trucks (The Off Road Championship) and what Robbie Gordon and others raced. I cant remember the details but I think Traxxas was the main sponsor (think Tamiya sponsoring Touring Car racing and then making rc versions). Traxxas was anyway a big rc brand with many buggies, nitro stuff etc before the Slash came out. From there the whole rc SCT (short course truck) scene kicked off in America with ppl racing these rc versions of the real thing and then companies like Team Associated et all came along and just improved on the design etc. The thing with the Slash (2wd) is that its now so old, there are so many after market parts for it - ppl have converted it to +100mph speed run machines, or shove MT tyres and make it a Monster Slash basher etc. Also, its worth noting the body is purposefully shaped to have a parachute effect - which is why it seems to hang in the air when doing jumps etc. Not great for racing, but for enjoying RC , it’s perfect. In stock form, it’s comical in its handling but then if you see the racing truck its based off, you’ll understand why its designed the way it is. Hence why the lcg chassis was brought out for those that wanted better handling. I’m sure the other sct rivals may be better, but for what it is (i.e the truck that kicked off the short course truck revolution) it’s still one of the best out there. Especially for those starting out. My only sad point is the cost. As mentioned in your other vid, I bought mine for under £200. Admittedly it was a few years again but still that’s still a price hike. I’d say, if one can, wait for the sales.
Love my brushed 2wd slash.
I beat the crap out of it and all I've upgraded were the servo gears to the metal option.
💪👌
I just traded in my can motor and esc and got the vlx system for $130 US
I love my Slash 😊 also my Tamiyas too
Seems like the barebones 2wd slash is the way to go, the suspension seems very nice
Very nice. I actually like the design of the Traxxas shocks and progressive springs. They give the Slash that insane body roll which looks kind of scale. I changed out the shocks and springs on mine for full metal jobbies and tbh, I'm most probably going to change them back. Sure it now handles 'better', but I liked it how it was a lot more.
My 2wd slash is a 2s slash and it is a beast, good beginner car
Yep, I really like mine :) I would like to get the clipless body upgrade for it.
I don’t know about in the UK but stateside a lot of local clubs have a Spec Slash class basically run the basic 2wd slash as it comes out of the box my local club allows upgrading to a Traxxas 2s LiPo but everything including radio and servo must remain unchanged for tuning if it wasn’t in the box (so the optional gearing and shock collars) you can’t change it it’s a popular class with we do run a regular short corse truck class open to all 2wd SC chassis open ESC & Motor 2s LiPo
I've never run a Slash, but they do look good. I went the Senton direction when I got my first SCT. Maybe I made a booboo?! 😎👍🏻
here in the states they are quite popular for racing. Traxxas street stock and mudboss oval racing is a blast and very inexpensive to race
Great vid! Thanks for the info.
Glad it was helpful!
Really you drove it in circles!!
It's OK, it goes in straight lines as well.
Thinking of getting this for my kid (and me) for Xmas. He’s 8. What parts can I expect him to break on a regular basis?
Love your videos Gavin !
I wish they did the rossi edition in the ultimate!
idunno about the slash, the entry level Bandit is plenty fun on 2s!
A hobby involving people soldering wires together, upgrading motors and other cool electronics, but yet they buy an adapter for a wall plug😂. This is a sweeet truck though. I recently just got into the hobby in my first rig was a axial capra utb18. Crawling is fun, but I’d much rather go fast and bash around and this seems like the perfect rig for what im wanting to do. Curious how this does in packed snow
👍👍👍Very nice👍👍👍
Thank you very much
I've bought 2 new slashes in past yr one brushed other bl2 my first hobby grade race I wouldn't go back to Walmart no more .
Look into the power up program to update to a brushless system.
hello
wow wow wow whata beautiful car love the colour scheme and for the price its brill makes me think that this might be a car for my shopping list.
i totally agree with you why upgrade straight away my mind is if its not broke dont fix it and there is so much you could upgrade on this car.
i am disappointed with the charger system but it gets you up and running but could this run on 2 or 3s lipos as it is or would i have to upgrade to brushless for that???
brill video series that you are starting got me waiting for the next one.
hope yourself and the family are all well.
peter
Hi, yes you can run this on 2S Lipo with just a quick configuration change on the ESC.
Upgrade when its broke. I should be that bright. Lol
Gavin, they make that same 2WD Slash as a kit to build as well. I was wondering if you would ever consider doing that build for the channel. Tamiya cars are the only builds I have ever done and would be interested to hear about your experience doing that one that could be more of a runner/racer than a Tamiya re-re.
It would be super easy to build for sure. I did think about getting it, but the RTR was a little less funny enough.
Hate say those shafts bend fairly easy
I’ve always had a soft spot for the slash . It’s kinda iconic now . I noticed it brought out the heavy metal . They have that effect I find 😂😂😂
Tbh metal shock caps and you are good to go . And sand paddles for the beach . Trust me on that one 😉😂👍
im not into rc cars as much but hope to be soon, just picked up my 2nd car, arrma 3s senton, but i have ZERO idea why RTR brush cars come with NIMH batterys they are TRASH. They could include a 2s 5000mah for the same price as that nimh and its just better and will charge faster!!!!
The tq are hit n miss in my opinion. We’ve got 2 of them. One has range issues the other is ok. Those chargers work well with the charger adapter
Just watching for the fact I want a drift car but want something that can handle actual road
Seems fast on standered battery
That is absolutely bizarre, supplying a charger that has to be connected to a car cigarette lighter!
Yep not sure what the thinking was with that
I am looking farward to the upgrades video.
Thank you
I’ve put in a request for the parts so it shouldn’t been too long
on the Traxxas website, it says it does not come with a battery. Is that true or am I missing something?
Yes it comes with a battery.
What's the difference between the rtr n vxl models
RTR as in the entry level one Vs the VXL?
@@RCKickschannel yeah
Can I get a link to that battery adapter please I can’t find one @RCKickschannel
How long does the battery last on a run like you were doing...? Nobody ever talks about that....if it's 10mins then the first upgrade is a second battery 😉 Looks like a great bit of kit for the price 👌
Nimhs def dont have a long run time - if you’re full throttle all the time then probably 20mins - 30mins max. One reason most switch to lipo batteries is not just more power but way longer run time.
It’s long enough to enjoy the car and get started. The car will take 2S Lipo so you could upgrade that down the line and if you go bigger like a 5000mah it will go on for 40+ mins

LOL
2wd stock slash is PAINFULLY slow in the grass. Even cut down as low as I can get it
Slash are lackluster at best. Tekno makes a far superior short course truck. Worth every quid.
Go with rpm upgrades for the arms and everything else.
When I bought my slash it did not have the lights on why is that
Traxxas did an upgrade to the basic Slash and added the LED light kit. You can see it on the Traxxas website 👍🏻
Mark Santa in America sells custom steering wheels for that model in different colours
hlw sir im indian vidoe nice ❤❤❤
By the way, the Traxxas slash ultimate is brushless, but not the Traxxas slash 2 Wheel Dr. that you just got that is brushed
What does brush mean?
I thought it came with a clip less body
Nope that’s new. You can retrofit it to all Slash cars now apparently
