I like the way he took a step back and became more patient, then turned the jets on when he got an opening, a great mix of patience and knowing when to go hamburger (as Mango would say).
At 13:30, how does Westballz slide backwards while lasering forwards? Is that a turnaround laser? How come all of my turnaround lasers just move in place, they don't slide me.
You need to be running and jump: this keeps your air momentum in that direction then you can do the turn around laser and fast fall. This obviously makes the short hop turn around fast fall a lot harder to do. More clearly you need to hit the jump button while you are running. You are probably returning the stick to neutral position to do the turnaround. This will make you jump on the spot instead of forward.
Yup, next time you're in game, run, hold that direction and short hop, then do it with returning to neutral position as you jump. You should notice you keep momentum the first way but stop moving in the air with the second. This info should also help your aerial approach options with Falco in general.

I understand that Nintendo doesn't want to go the melee route with the mechanics of its smash games, and i KNOW about project M, but you know what would be cool, some HD Melee remake, MAKE IT HAPPEN NINTENDO YOU HD REMADE EVERYTHING ELSE.
the thing about "melee hd", is given sakurai's hatred of the game, i wouldn't trust nintendo to not screw something up. The only thing we can count on is a re release, with 0 changes. I don't believe in nintendo enough to think they wouldn't touch the mechanics at all, or screw up the balancing in some way
