+Douwe Ziel the meaning behind that is that instead of comboing for percent, PP combos largely for stage positioning. A good example of someone who doesn't combo to get people off stage as falco is westballz. There is a similar difference between plup's sheik and m2k's sheik.
+Daniel Seabaugh I wasn't talking about PP's general gameplay, just the way the commentator worded the sentence. "Moves that just send them off stage" yeah with what else would PP force his opponent off stage but those moves.
+Autodidactus Communitati PPMD is probably my favourite Falco player of all time, so even if I desperately want M2K to do good - I really love watching PPMD rock my favourite character.
That was dirty. He read his Sheik so hard, forced him to do exactly what he needed. That's how you beat someone with similar technical skill. Pure mind games.
17:30 - "Four stock? Four stock? ¿Cuatro? QUATRE?! QUATTRO! And that is a... ¡Qué lástima! Finito! Dr. PP takes it!" Yo, did he just said "Four" in FOUR different languages? That's priceless hahah Oh, and props to Kevin, he totally deserved that win, must be nerve-wracking to play against M2K, he handled the match very well.
M2K needs to work on getting through the Marth ditto on FD. That's what his success hinges on I feel. The only time I recall him winning it was at Big House 3....which he won. Everything else, he lost. It either boosts his morale and makes him think "ok, PP can't COMPLETELY outclass me with my pride and joy" or makes him think "what do I even do..." We got to see both the best and the worst of M2K at this tournament though. I'm proud of how he did on all sets this tournament except for this one. Not giving up on him though. Never have, never will. Good job to PP. He's an amazing player and has definitely put in the effort and planning to deserve it. ...Still hate the man's Falco though. But I can't do much about the character.
PP's reaction time is insane. I can't think of another reason that he is able to CC or shieldgrab those very quick Sheik jabs or dash dance so effectively with Marth/Falco. It's scary.
Nah depends on the item, a fair number of the pros have faced Diddys and ZSSs who have the item game as well. If it's hammers, banana-like objects, lazer guns I could see it having no impact.... But Bombs and invincibility ewwww
Super glad M2K played more solidly against PPMD's Marth compared to his Apex match. Major congrats to PPMD though, proving that he deserves that number one spot.
2014 in general was ppmd's year. Really hope he comes back to his best form now that his health issues are being resolved, i admire his movement in the neutral game and combos despite not being the most technical player, i'd like to adopt a ppmd style of play with fox.
There really needs to be a rule that limits how much time you can take between games. 1 minute is all you should get. I love Mew2king, but every time he's down against PPMD he takes 4+ minutes to decide his CP. This appears to me as trying to slow his momentum. You can see this with EVERY set they play, glad he got 4 stocked out of it.
The light bair around 10:13 into ftilt was actually really smart. He could have used a strong move, but that would have ended the combo. Since PP was probably expecting a fair/nair (or maybe an uair to attempt to continue the combo), he would DI up, which would be perfect for continuing the combo with ftilt -> move. PPMD's reaction time here was pretty sick to be able to DI the ftilt away.
That has to be PP's brother behind him on the right side of the player cam, I wonder what his tag is, and if he entered anything at SKTAR and if he's any good. Anybody have any clue?
It's not him in the player cam, but PP indeed does have a brother. He goes by Twitch and they're practically training partners. He doesn't travel but he's got a technically sound fox; I think he was top 5 in NC at one point, not sure if he still enters tournies.
Does anyone happen to know what the name of the song is that VGbootcamp uses at the beginning of their videos, and is there a full length version of it anywhere?
Oh my god! I didn't expect the four stock because unlike the Axe-Silentwolf and Mango-Leffen four stocks, nobody talks about this one even though PP was playing amazing and this was God on God
Which tournaments would you enter if you eventually wanted to get to this level? What I'm asking for, I guess, is how you would go about entering the smaller tournaments.
Honestly I think PP, Armada and Mango are on a different level than HBox and M2K. When those three are playing at their peak, they are uncontested. Although it seems it only happens one at once...
I'm not so sure about that. HBox has somewhat a set style of play, so he can't really do much about that. M2K is a weird case. It's funny hearing this from both Armada and once in Mang0's stream, M2K is like on another level at not playing his level at tourneys which is just hilarious.
DibbleMunt If M2K coud focus on Melee and take some mindset lessons from PPMD, he could easily go back to dominance. HBox is coming into his own recently, taking Paragon, double four-stocking M2K and beating Armada. Not to mention Leffen.
Dean Dix I completely agree, and I can't see as much improvement in melee now due to smash 4, which I'm not hating on, it's a really fun game, but playing all of those while still remaining top cut is hard.
Darryl de la Motte ***** ps3shark1 There are multiple versions of Melee. They play on NTSC as that is the one released in North America. Furthermore, there are multiple versions of NTSC released a few months after the original that modify a few things, such as the SDI multipliers on Samus' UpB and removing Bowser's flame cancelling. They use the most recent version, however, which is 1.2 (some people say it's 1.02).
people slept on PP since he didnt enter as many tourneys as mango, m2k, or hungry box so i am happy to see him do so well during this tourney. ever since Civil War 6 i saw the talent he had that i felt exceeded the other three so i couldn't wait for Sktar. he really earned this win and i hope everyone else goes Hyperbolic time chamber training so they are ready to take him out at EVO
First I've heard. Iunno what other people were like, but I've always been afraid of PP since he dominated Apex 2014. He's like pre-retirement Armada in a sense, in that while other players have their ups and downs, PP is instead remarkably consistent and grows with each tourney, never really having slumps. I suppose this can be attributed to the practice styles of the two...from what I've seen/heard, they seem to be very similar. Then again, they're also the only ones in the Big 5 who really seem to have concrete strategies ahead of time.
It is my opinion that 2014-2015 was the true peak of competitive melee. This was when every melee god was playing extremely well, and so many stories were created during that time. Please come back PPMD!!!!
He's been at this game for a long time. He also apparently has early stages of carpal tunnel. Frankly I'd be pissed if I lost to a guy named pp... who had more hair
ClassicGaming7 Probably because the people he beats in loser's finals and winner's finals were having a bad day or he just dominated them just to lose in Grand Finals, lol. Everybody has their own playstyle. You can't beat all of them.
I've seen this match many times before but only this time did I realize that m2k did all of the counterpicking falcon stuff just to stall out PP's momentum...
chinezeFURY A JV is when you win at 0% on a stock, where some might say you might as well have still had that last stock, since your opponent never got to dig into the current stock. Thus a JV-5 is when you win with 0% at 4 stocks, which is insanely hard to do, even against newer players. That being said, I saw M2K do it in a Marth ditto the other week.
Lol not even close to unbeatable. This is about the time where players realized his major weakness: his predictability when it comes to choice making. Thats m2k's major flaw, and all the gods knew it at the time of sktar
Yeah I feel ya actually. I've been watching M2K more lately and he is getting depressed and unsure of himself. And yeah i'm seeing him lose more often. But still ya gotta admit. You don't see M2k get Four stocked all that often.
I play fox and falco as my mains and though they seem to be somewhat similar as clones, I have an extremely though time adjusting on the fly on different maps during sets (switching characters/counter-picking characters w/e) like mango, PP, and M2K seem to do with there characters. (Especially M2K playing fox, shiek, and marth). I find it pretty amazing I know their pros and they should be able, but damn its so hard!
***** Hey! I see your comment. I posted that 6th months ago and after lots of practice I have learned to play them both whenever i want. It is INDEED possible bro...just takes A LOT of time!
You can study a pro or a veteran, they have their matches all over the Internet, someone who is far less so must be studied in person via spectating or actual matches.
Why did pp go falco after m2k went sheik if he went marth at first? He won the last game so he picks character first, and the loser of the last game picks character second as a counterpick.
"I love PPMD's choices with these combo's, just forcing the opponent off stage with... moves that just send them off stage" 10/10
+Douwe Ziel the meaning behind that is that instead of comboing for percent, PP combos largely for stage positioning. A good example of someone who doesn't combo to get people off stage as falco is westballz. There is a similar difference between plup's sheik and m2k's sheik.

+Daniel Seabaugh I see why you defended d1 with your "similar difference" statement. lol
Top tier commentary lol. It honestly must be difficulty trying to commentate while also being totally mesmerized by such good melee
That moment when Mew2king is counterpicked to Final Destination.
and loses
PP is so happy when he wins, it's so nice to see that
Thats it.
What's not to like about watching pp win? Lol
I hope he comes back to compete.

But of course m2k is just a tad bit more lovable

I like PP more but I can't help but root for M2K when he plays as Sheik cause she's my main
+Autodidactus Communitati I was rooting for PPMD the whole way. One of my favourite players to watch, second only to Mango.
+Autodidactus Communitati thats why I love smash. I watch it for the love of the game. I never really care who wins just love watching great fights.

Marths neutral air is OP
Hehe look at the colors of their shirts during the FD Marth ditto..
M2K should have went with Captain Falcon
He played it safe. In hindsight, he could have gone out with a bang with The Captain.
9:04 anybody else notice the lasers and the music lining up super well?
haha they do
Ppmd was trolling m2k
PP looking like he converted from Mormonism to Catholicism.
so he got lazy?
"Cuatro"

LMFAO when D1 said Cuatro hahahha
Quarto not Cautro.
Cuatro is four on spanish dude

you're right, it's not like PP's convincingly beatin Mango the at the past 2 majors they played at...
talk to me when PP dominates melee for 7 years+
eragonrules1234
Oh oh, fanboy alert
fan boy and proud of it, Mangonation for life. He is the GOAT for a reason, can PP claim as much?
12:57 **EPIC FORESHADOWING**
Look at 10:49 and see the spacing on that dair that PP did, I believe PPMD is the most cerebral falco out there, love watchin this boy work
PPMD's dash dance is a beauty to the eye.
rewatching this just to see the PP clone in the black and pink shirt behind him again.
M2K needs to work on getting through the Marth ditto on FD. That's what his success hinges on I feel. The only time I recall him winning it was at Big House 3....which he won. 8:56 ppmd
BOTH of these guys are ON POINT, M2K more so than this year's Apex. Amazing play on both parties, simply amazing. D1x, these guys really ARE artists.
I seen this so many times, and the Marth ditto still makes me so hype.
FoD seems to be the most common stage for top level 4 stocks.
Can I get this game on my phone?
Fox McCloud I doubt it, it’s way too big. You can play it on an emulator though if you look in the right places
it looks like there's two ppmd's in his player cam
