Spanning 30,000 kilometres from Prudhoe Bay in Alaska to Ushuaia in Argentina, the Pan-American Highway is the world’s longest road.
It connects North and South America. Except….for a dense impenetrable jungle on the Panama-Colombia border. This is the Darién Gap. Known locally as El Tapón or the "The Plug", this is the only land bridge between the Americas. This 106 kilometres break in the Pan-American Highway of dense jungle is one of the last great untamed places on earth, one of the world’s most biodiverse places, an incredibly beautiful piece of nature, but to those passing through it is…

A BIG Thank You for shining light on this humanitarian crisis. I hope this video reaches the decision-makers and I hope at least a few of them will have a change of heart.
Thanks for this video.
It's mind blowing how many people are traversing the gap recently. Wasn't very long ago it was considered almost a death sentence.
Despair makes you do some stuff
It is still a death sentence but people are becoming more experienced.

35:08 Hey man so far so great in your analysis. As a peruvian, it would be great to cover my country given that it recieves little to no attention in english speaking media but they should because of it's location and the drug cartels and other organised crime groups that quietly operate there and I dare saying control the Republic of Peru's state[or are in the process of doing so] and are the ones responsible for the deforestation of the peruvian amazon by mining and pollution[which isn't talked about it much even in spanish speaking media].

this is the most rational position vis a vis migration
Instead of y'know, closing the border? He purposely uses migration data only starting from 2021 onward because before then, it was low, as the borders were closed.
Well that’s the most heartbreaking thing I’ve heard today. Thanks for educating us!

That interviewer asking people who just crossed the gap about sharia law was one of the cringiest things i ever heard. The willful ignorance involved is just astounding

I have a wife and a son. If there were bad guys who would hurt my family while I try to scratch out a living, I would absolutely risk the journey to America, where there is hope and home for everyone. Yeah yeah, it would be illegal, but for the love of family, a man will do anything
Exactly. ....and illegal ≠ immoral
Totally understandable. However, THERE ARE OTHER SAFEHAVENS than the US and Canada. Uruguay. Chile. Europe. Certain parts of the Caribbean. I think that seeing the US as some kind of a promised land is a mistake. I understand that for Haitians and Venezuelans and Salvadorans whose lives are in imminent danger and who don't have access to information, simply steering towards the US is the default solution. But some of them should know better and try other options.
@@kenster8270i don’t recommend Europe rn
How is it that rents are skyrocketing and that so many people are left homeless in North-America? In Canada also we have a shortage of affordable housing and inflation is way up and the price of food and gaz makes it really hard on low income people. They show a false picture of America as if everyone lived in Beverly Hills while so many people camp under bridges and along the streets all across USA and Canada. ⚜

My father is right off the boat, a legal immigrant from Colombia.
It looks very dangerous, almost like they should be using the front door and not dragging their little kids along putting their lives at risk.
Entering a strange country by felonious means is a terrible way to start the first day of your new life in America. And we - Americans - need to get our own house in order before we can take in boarders who don't speak our language or adhere to our norms and social contracts. We cannot do anything for anyone right now. We are balls deep in two proxy wars, with 30% inflation, $4 gas, and a general feeling of hopelessness in the air. If you haven't noticed, Biden has done everything he said Trump would be doing if we didn't "fortify" the 2020 election! New wars, a failing economy, and we are closer to nuclear annihilation than any other period in time.
As the son of a grateful American immigrant right off the boat, this "surge at the border" pisses me off and make me sad. There shouldn't be ANY testicles or penises seeking asylum, ONLY helpless women and children fleeing violence and persecution! And NO ONE should be using this pass at Panama/Colombian border! Same with the desert near the Mexico/Arizona/Texas border, it's far too dangerous for any human being. If you have a conscience you would be in full support of a very tall border wall being erected!
Some of thes migrants cross by foot the US Canada border in winter and some froze to death while the smugglers American citizens are cashing in to transport them to their death and probably spend some of the cash on Cocaïne 🐺
Feels hopeless right, like desperation that you are helpless to do anything in order to get America in proper order right? Well that same feeling multiplied to 10x is what the desperate people fleeing their country towards a strange land feel. Doesn’t make it right and they really should not, but I understand how such an irrational solution can be reached through the logic of despair.
I went to visit your site onTH-cam and seing it I can testify that your father is not Colombian and that you are a sick man just seeing the neo-nazi music you display on it. You should be ashamed and erect your you know what instead of a wall You are a sick man. 🏴☠

4:57 the reason the Americas were in the way is because the ottomans were in the way the other direction
Great video, I really appreciate the focus on recent events. The political and economic situation in Latin America often changes quickly and English language media sometimes struggles to keep up.
I love these longer videos that focus on more current stuff. Always happy to see you doing good for yourself.
My parents work in a refugee center for newly arrived immigrants. The vast majority are Venezuelans (like us ) and most are very poor. The sad thing is that everyone tries to take a plane to skip the darien gap but the those that are poorer have to traverse it by foot when immigrating. My parents tell me some pretty horrible stories of what the refugees endured while migrating and most of the action usually takes place in the darién gap or by the mexico-US border. Hearing those stories regularly make me be more grateful that we had the privilege to fly a plane to the us and didn't have to see as many hardships
Interesting that the increase in numbers coincided with the change policies by the changes in government on those same years in the US.
I remember this channel from a video on the amazigh people from 4 years ago, when it only had a few thousand subscribers, glad to see it at 600k nowadays. Keep up the good work!
Bald and Bankrupt went with a friend and actually accompanies a migrant train as undercover russian migrants. They caught footage on the trip through. It is quite impactful.
Great video, mate. It's nice to see you didn't stop at just speaking about geography and interesting facts but went into the human side of things. This is how borders and politics affect people, sometimes with all those cold numbers we tend to forget there is people behind them.
Learned a bunch of stuff I didn't know before. Powerful and well-researched argument. Good work putting your sources up with the video. Thanks. It seems weird that the Ecuador's public would vote for Moreno when things were so good under Correa. Why was that?
Moreno was supposed to follow Correa's model. He was his Vice President. Once in office he shifted massively.
people typing “wHy dOn’T tHeY FiX ThEiR CoUnTRiEs!?” like we didn’t literally overthrow their democracies. Fix HOW? No arms, no voice.

There was real US intervention into a lot of these countries, but the idea that it happened in every single one and that these countries would magically be functional if it wasn't for the US is a weird fiction that can't be substantiated.

I kinda miss the little Animation figures, they all look so cute and that formula is very entertaining and jntuitive.
But when dealing with serious topics like this or the Haiti crisis, he prefers to omit the cute and funny animations
If Colombia and Panama wanted to they could easily connect their respective ends of the Pan-American Highway by simply constructing a detour down along the Caribbean coast via Acandí.
What people do not realize is about the unelected leader of Haiti that was backed by the 3 powers was so that aid treaties could be set up. No country can enter another without an agreement with someone in charge lest it be considered an act of aggression if not out right war. The issues in venezuela are way before the sanctions. Removing them will not really change things much I can atest.
If the sanctions weren't effective they wouldn't exist. Things were bad in Venezuela before the sanctions yes. Things were bad in Ireland and Greece in 2008 and in Argentina in 2002. Imagine if during the peak of those crisis in those countries suddenly the major/only export of that nation, the export it used to earn hard currency used to purchase imports, was sanctioned and thus cut off from the global market. It would lock the economic disaster in forever. Venezuela cannot economically recover under sanctions, that's literally the purpose of the sanctions.

It's a very well-produced video but it just doesn't feel like Cogito? It seems more like a Johnny Harris or Real Life Lore video. Keep doing your unique style!
I love this video and his Haiti video personally.
In the Haiti video, a person mentioned in the comments that Cogito had avoided using their animations because it was a serious topic. I guess the same thing happens here, in fact this guy had said he wanted to deal with quite a few topics like: West Papua, Sudan, Rohingya... I will most likely keep this style of videos
@@eduardobenitez4584 Makes sense. I think he had a great niche for himself covering historical-cultural topics. It highlighted his passion while still showing off his humor and unique animation style. If he feels covering these serious news topics aligns more with his 'mission' then fair enough it makes more sense to keep doing this new style. I just personally feel it gets lost in the sea of many other channels doing the same.

In fairness, it's a bit unfair to call Laura Loomer a journalist. She's a far-right activist and islamaphobe. I still agree that someone like her should be nowhere near people risking their lives to cross a freaking continent.
The lack of self-awareness in that interviewer is so apparent. These people just want to process all the trauma and hardship they've been through, not be bombarded by privileged people asking about their stances on politics and wars they aren't even involved in. It's so out-of-touch.
yesss more sharia in usa is exactly what we need anyway🎉🎉

@@snowballeffect7812 "the trade is cut off with the implication of violence"
No its' not. It's cut off by literally cutting off the trade. Do you know how modern trade works? Most of the sanctions on Russia are cutting them off from western financial institutions. They can't use western banking, the SWIFT institution (which allows financial transactions), & the oil is sanctioned by now letting Russia use insurance companies of the west which represent 95%+ of insured shipping.
