The Latin Mass is growing everywhere, ( especially among young families ), despite the efforts of those who want to stop it. Ask yourself why do they want it stopped ? Speak to any exorcist, they will tell you, the devil hates Latin as it's the official language of Holy Mother Church, and the only language exorcists use during the rite.
I think people have missed the point. Father Pope John Paul made a small connection with the audience by praying in Latin. It was a simple warm gesture. People were not laughing as such out of disrespect but happy this warm Pope called above stiffness and formality to pray from the heart and they did.
@Dominic if you just make an effort and pray it a few times everyone can understand it. Catholic mass is quite repetitive so you have lots of practice.
Dominic but if you travel to another country, you’ll have no idea to what they are saying. With Latin, you can be 7,000 miles away and still understand it. And it’s fairly easy to learn Latin chants.

There's a certain magical element in the use of Latin and Gregorian Chant that the Catholic Church has missed over the years and I believe there is a hunger for it to return , and this is coming from the youth!
@tadeuszmateja5866 precisely. Well said. The mass is the highest form of worship there is. And the extraordinary form is the most reverent and proper mass the church has produced.
The only time I’ve had a Latin mass was at my dad’s uncles funeral, and I was only 7 years old but I knew what was going on. Afterwards we went out to dinner with the priest, and so my great great grandfather owned a brewery called the centlivre brewery and on the top it had a statue of him, so when it ran out of business it went to that restaurant so we were able to climb up to the top using slimy ladders and it was really dirty. The priest didn’t even hesitate about staying at the bottom. He was still in the same uniform as he was during the mass, and he still climbed up. It was the best moment of my life.
The first time I set foot in a Catholic church was the day I came to a High Mass on the Feast of the Holy Family at my local FSSP parish. The Mass of the Ages is the Mass I know and love, the Mass which has helped me through so many trials and tribulations. May God preserve the solemn and dignified celebration of the Most Holy Sacrifice of The Mass
Nathan Wilson Because he is the Supreme Pontiff, whether you like it or not. I was a sedevacantist once, but (thank the Lord) I found my way back to the Church.
Whenever I see videos of Pope Saint JPII blessing a crowd, it seems to me that he's doing it in the present just as much as when he was being recorded...
My parents were married in this Church and I have been going there my whole life. I remember watching this with my Dad, a Chicago Cop, and he was so happy to hear it in Latin. Just think Cupich who presides over this very church restricts that Latin mass.

It's quite impressive how you could still see some older bishops doing the sign of the cross in the words "Adjutorium nostrum in nomine Domini", as it was prescribed in the traditional apostolic blessing. The good ol' times
This is the cathedral of my diocese. This sung rendition of the Pater Noster and the blessing was truly sanctified. By 1979, what few clergy that were joining the church weren't taught any of these ancient prayers, unless they possibly had memories of pre-council masses. How St. John Paul II loved his clergy here in Chicago, how much he loved to sing...Latin. Even in the "dark" post-council years

I love hearing the prayers in Latin and would like the Missa de Angelis for my Requiem Mass. My understanding is that since Vatican II, Mass may still be said in Latin, in the new rite but since JP2, the Tridentine Rite may be used. Some Catholic churches in the UK now have one Tridentine Mass every week. As far as I'm aware, all Roman Catholic priests have to be able to say the Mass in Latin. I would prefer my Requiem to be in Irish but the chances of a priest being fluent, in the UK where I live, are remote.
Missa de Angelis, I believe is for the Masses of Angels, there is a specific setting for Requiems. Missa pro Defunctis. Some of the Missa de Angelis would be omitted in place of traditional Requiem Mass chants. Also, the character of the Requiem is different than that of Missa de Angelis, so it would seem out of place. God Bless you.
At the end of the Pater Noster at 1:30 he says: LATIN: V. Sit nomen Domini benedictum. / R. Ex hoc nunc et usque in saeculum V. Adjutorium nostrum in nomine Domini. / R. Qui fecit caelum et terram. (At 1:48 he asks the cardinals and bishops to join him in giving the blessing)

Boy, we can sure use him now! I remember when he came to Chicago. My employer let us off the day to go see him at Five Holy Martyrs on the Southwest Side. It was such a wonderful time then. Can't say the same in our current days now. (2023)
Yes! Today if we travel in our world community, we cannot participate fully in a language we do not speak. When we all knew the Latin responses we could. Back in the 1960s I was told that we were using the vernacular because people didn't know what was going on when the Mass was in Latin. I had always used a missal with English on one side and Latin on the other. I knew what was going on. I've always believed that those who didn't know didn't care to.
Must have been 1979, first year of his papacy and first trip to the US. Interesting to see how fit he was before the shots of 1981. He never really fully recovered after the assassination attempt the way I see it. His place in history is undoubted, still.
Quanti mesi di maggio ho fatto da bambina, ragazzina e anche da adulta. Era bellissimo c'era la chiesa piena tutti cantavano . Ho imparato a memoria tutti i canti. A maggio negli anni 50 60 era primavera vera . Io avevo abiti leggeri e dopo la funzione ci fermavano sul marciapiede a giocare fino a quando veniva buio. QUANTA NOSTALGIA!!! LAURA

When my brother and I were young, my brother asked "Why is the Pope wearing a yarmulke? He's not even Jewish." I told him it's a zucchetto, which is similar to a yarmulke.
There is a beauty to having one common language for the entire global church
So true, to hear hundreds or thousands (at other events) signing with one voice in one language. It’s so beautiful.
True!⚘

Will never happen. Bergoglio will potentially extinguish the Latin Mass by the end of the year.
