    Great video, thanks for showing so much of the process and mixing in the full size images! I got a 100S about 3 weeks ago and went with the 80mm as I could only get one lens, and I've been blown away by every shot I've taken so far. The ISO performance and IBIS are enough to shoot solid images in everything from noonday sunlight to dimly lit music venues. The autofocus is... not great with the 80mm, but it feels alright when spot focusing. Hoping the upcoming 50mm f/1.4 has a linear motor for more snappy autofocus.

    Very nice review. Owning the 50s, R, and 100 previously.. I had to sell them when corona hit. Just sold my beloved Canon to get the 100S. It’s pretty much reminds me where I started with it of the 50S just with the best capabilities of all four cameras. My favorite gf lens is the 250. Getting the 45-100 and the 80 soon though. Great review!

      You divide the f stop to 1.29 and you get the equivalent f stop in full frame. So f2 means f1.55, f1.7 means f1.31. I wish they had more lenses like that.

  • @bruh-qi7ue

    At 3:58 the reason there is more motion blur is because of the amount of pixels (100MP). It's because on an 8MP camera those pixels wouldn't necessarily be blurred from the motion because there is less detail. I think you can try this by comparing an a7riv and an a7iii. But they both have good ibis.

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Fujifilm GFX100s + 80mm f1.7. What an ultimate combo for portraits, studio shots or even landscapes. It sells for: €8500 together, which is a lot of money but then again top quality cost something. One could get A7R4 with 50 1.2 GM to get similar but not as good results at €6000. If i had money spared i would definitely went with medium format Fuji GFX. Maybe one day...

    Hi
    I think you are wrong about IBIS and shutter. I run both these cameras. The shutter in each is exceptionally dampened. It was part of the big package with the 100. As to the supposed half stop of additional stabilisation, well, you are not generally getting 5 stops on either in real world use but it’s enough to allow you to do what you are doing - shoot hand held hardly worrying about technique and still get great results - which you do - from a very vibration sensitive sensor.

I then used Luminar AI for the skin retouching to help me out.. since the files are so big it would have taken me a LONG time to manually retouch them in Photoshop lol. Thank you and yes, I much prefer shooting with the screen! I used to shoot with the viewfinder 100% of the time when I used to use DSLRs, but for portrait photography I prefer having that openness to be able to talk and direct my subject. It helps a lot more when I’m shooting weddings for example when people aren’t as comfortable in front of the camera. I’ve noticed a huge improvement in confidence when they can see my face vs when I’m buried in the viewfinder lol. The 110 is a gorgeous lens as well, I used that one in my first GFX video that I uploaded in January.. but yeah having f1.7 with the 80 is really nice!

      @mike-bv2jc ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@christophsauer2857 there is definitely a better focusing and more details. The IBIS also helps quite a bit, but if you shoot for example landscape with long exposure you have to switch it off. From what I see there is also an improvement for high ISO (less noise for the same ISO)
      I haven't done any true comparison between the two cameras, once I switched to 100s never looked back.
      Recently I shoot mostly in the studio and I see that I get a good bokeh even if I shoot at f/8. I use mostly the 110 f/2 lens (I have only 2 lenses, the second one being 32-64 f/4). I know the young lady is demonstrating the camera, but 100 mp of MF resolution directed at a human face at so close a distance, is not going to do anyone a favour.

      I would have agreed with you before, I got some amazing results from the GFX100 mounted on a tripod vs handheld. But like I mentioned in this video they really worked on making this GFX100S a more user friendly camera, I got incredibly sharp results just handheld. No need to mount on a tripod. Especially paired with that new 80 f1.7 lens, I was able to have the freedom of shooting in darker locations such as the tunnel, hand held, low shutter speed and no motion blur.

      @@maniveiszadeh8030 I agree. I have a draw with straps that I never use on my Sonys. I bought a new A&3 a few weeks back and thought nI would try a strap but it only lasted 2 hours and I took it off. Do people drop cameras? What are straps for?

    Seems interesting lense.. But not sure though if it's lense or you doing fab work.. Lol😁... How heavy is it? How it's performing especially in the late evening.. Sunset or during night/dark photoshoot ?..

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I would say it’s a mixture of both haha a nice lens helps me do my work better/easier :) It’s pretty heavy with the camera + lens, but like I mentioned in the video it’s a bit smaller and lighter than the GFX100 which I used earlier this year. And I wasn’t sure what to expect but I thought it performed really well in darker lighting. The shots in the tunnel IMO look really clean even with a higher ISO. I’m also going to do a photoshoot with this camera at night, so we will see how it goes then!

      Yes, I had no issues at all during this portrait photoshoot! The camera and lens made it really easy to shoot portraits :) I personally prefer this f1.7 lens like I mentioned in the video as it makes shooting handheld easier with no motion blur and you have more freedom to shoot in any location such as the darker tunnel I wanted some photos in.

    I suppose the 100% crops are only at 100% for people watching the video in 4K, on a 4K screen - for the rest of us it's somewhere below 100%. Is that right?
    Maybe worth including some crops blown up to 200% to so that it would be equivalent to 100% when scaled back down to 1080p?

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you’re watching the video in 1080p you won’t be able to see all the details regardless of how much I zoom into the images, which is why I decided to include a folder on my blog where you can just download some high res jpgs so you can zoom in yourself/see it without video compression.

    I have the gfx 100 and I don't experience any motion blur, probably you were because you are shooting hand held with the back screen instead of using the view finder which is difficult to steady a camera with that way of shooting.

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah but I used the 100 and 100S in the same way - handheld, LCD, same camera settings, with similar shutter speeds and one has motion blur and the other doesn’t. So they definitely improved IBIS and shutter mechanism regardless of how I shoot.

    hi julia, do you think this big resolution with a sharp objective is to much of sharpness in portrait photography ? greets bm

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When it comes to portraits I think a camera like this is better suited for something like fine art photography. With my style and the kind of work I do like weddings and fashion, I don’t need so much resolution personally! I like sharp images, but anywhere between 24-30MP is more than enough for me to be able to deliver good images to my client :)

    You will get some motion blur holding the camera like that ! I'm surprised how many photographers use back screen, rather than viewfinder these days. I guess it's the mirrorless way (where the camera does everything for you ) No need to focus on eyes when the camera does it.
    At least we can still compose & find locations (for now) until the camera learns to do that 🤣
    Driving cars seems to be going the same way 🤔

  • @jliang70
    @jliang70 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like the video and also the camera but since I have invested a lot in Sony E mount lens, I don't think I will invest in another the fuji MF system, the lenses are also expensive with limited support from third party lens makers ( apart from the cost Fuji makes exception lenses). The file size is huge 200mb for a single photo in raw, not real surprise given the resolution of the picture. I have Sony A7 R3 its raw file is 81mb-82mb. For this MF format file It will take a computer with considerable processing power and time to edit a 200mb raw files. People like me 42mp camera like Sony A7 R3 and 61mp R4 is more than enough for my need. How do you feel about this camera compare to a A7 R4 with GM 50mm F1.2?

    • @1224ALEX1224
      @1224ALEX1224 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah surely a A7Riv would be enough for most people? How much slower is the Fuji in general run and gun and kids/sport/wildlife? Apart from much higher RES of some medium format, I hear the larger sensor gives more 3D pop for portraits?

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I appreciate medium format cameras and cameras like the A7R4, they are not for me when it comes to client work. With portrait and wedding photography I personally just don't need file sizes this large, the A7III is more than enough for me! For the kind of work I do up to 30MP is usually enough. That's just me though, there are plenty of people who could and do benefit from medium format. In terms of portraits, fine art photography is something that comes to mind that you could use this for

    • @mike-bv2jc
      @mike-bv2jc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @John Liang the raw files are around 100MB compressed. Why would you shoot uncompressed? The compressed file is a kind of a zip file, you don’t loose any information

    • @jliang70
      @jliang70 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mike-bv2jc Sorry with compressed raw you do lost info and it is not difficult to find a video on youtube illustrating the difference between the difference between raw and compress raw files. In post editing under exposed and over exposed the difference will show up. And storage price is cheap today and if you own a Sony R3/R4 the price of storage media would not be a concern for you, I use 128GB sandisk extreme and extreme pro on R3 they are under $30 in my country.
