    Remember that part of the Farm Workers movement includes Filipino leaders Larry Itliong and Philip Veracruz. It was allyship that led to the movement victories.

      95% of all kidnapped West Africans were sold into slavery in Latin America according to the 'Black Almanac' (a Black source available at any college library). When are these people going to pay reparations for 400 years of running the Trans-Atlantic slave trade?

    This needs to be talked about WAY more. Hispanic discrimination and their struggle to be as equal as any race in the United States. My grandma went through this. She was born in 1926. Her and her large Hispanic family farmed the fields all over California. They farmed in southern California and moved to northern California where work was available. My great grandparents were born in California when it was still in Mexico.

      Victor Salazar sweetheart mendez v Westminster did not lead to brown vs the board of education Mexicans and blacks civil right where never on the same page brown vs the the board of education came from Plessy vs Ferguson being over turned hell i doubt that blacks in the civil rights movement even knew let alone cared about what some Mexicans did in Texas the truth is that Mexicans civil rights movement had no impact on the black civil rights movement it is and insult to put them in the same sentence without blacks (slaves) Mexicans wouldn't even been citizens blacks were the cause for the 14 amendment that gave citizenship to everyone regardless of race... name one constitutional amendment that came as an result of Mexican blood sweat and tears so how can you say anything Mexicans did led to anything African Americans accomplished during the civil rights movement

      brandi garrison Hernandez vs texas in 1954. approved that the 14th amendment provided protection for all people, not just white and black. 1938 pecan shellers strike, imprisonment of 700 mexican- americans peacefully protesting cuts in wages. precursor for fair labor standards act of 1938. i understand where youre coming from, but latino-americans have had a part in the civil rights movement, regardless if we weren't on the same page as african- americans

    What about Puerto Ricans?

    • @Tritone
      @Tritone 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Puerto Ricans also did nothing to contribute to the civil rights movement.
      Most people of Spanish origin (Mexicans, Cubans, Puertoricans) were *NOT MINORITIES* before the civil rights movement. They were considered to be white, so they were uninvolved with and uninterested in the civil rights movements because it simply did not concern them. They didn't have the problems that black people had. They were never legally discriminated against and were unaffected by segregation and the race laws of the day.
      In the 70s, long after the civil rights movement was over, that's when they started to imitate the black social movements that they wanted nothing to do with before. This is when they started their parallel movements like the Young Lords and the Chicano movement.

      Tritone false information you better te read your Martin Luther King books, he stated we stood side by side as minorities. Don’t come licking knowledge on my people if it ain’t accurate, we fought in every urban city throughout the USA/ Cali, New Mexico, Dallas, Florida, New York, shit even our own land. You reading what Wikipedia’s feeding you if yo want real information open the same books I’ve read and you will see the pictures which clearly show us in the same warzone. The white man created this animosity during those times to create tension between the black and brown movements during the civil rights era/ although we didn’t agree with each other’s terms we still had our voices of power equally on the matter. Don’t be confused, they created White to manipulate Mexican/American politicians which were basically apart of the Linden B Johnson’s team- the tactics used were covert operations which stemmed back into the prison system. There is a lot more info on this and I hope you go back and read so you can also understand our struggle as well.

      Alberto Gutierrez wrong!!!!!! We never were placed in any media because we were not acknowledged as people, you are only shining light on he white mixed breed with a pint of Mexican in them, how could we not feel the same effect if we had to regroup and re strategize our infrastructures within our movements in order to rise up to voice our own opinion, and still to this day we don’t get our respect- equality- nor proper due respect for cultivating the lands, and building and erecting the majority of building throughout America. We can’t be overlooked as human beings, and our status never had placement- because they killed off our ancestors and raped our woman, we never had a choice in the matter of race nor do we care about the race factor. We care about the true history of our people that has been wiped off from history, and this year we will reclaim our True Equality

      *"The white man created this animosity during those times to create tension between the black and brown movements during the civil rights era"*
      There was no "brown" movement till after the CRM was over. People are inventing this today. In the civil rights era, Mexicans were saying that they were WHITE! Every Mexican organization publically identified as white, and stated that they wanted nothing to do with the civil rights movement. LULAC and the G.I forum were white-identified organizaitons.
      Mexicans didn't reinvent themselves as minorities until the 70s, long after the civil rights movement was over. That's when younger people started saying that they were "brown".
