Thank you so much for bringing this to the front page of America for I be;level as you nothing has ever been done for our Latino (Mexican American) vets. My brother and his buddies from small town America were never. Acknowledged..I too am a veteran but not from any war, when I joined it was the WAC IN 195, but I’m still proud.
It’s great to hear all these stories of how Americans of Mexican decent fought for this great country. My uncle who is Mexican American was in the Army in WW2 he was in the battle to retake the Philippines he was from El Paso. I know there are many more stories like this. I enjoyed it. It makes me proud of what Americans of Mexican decent contributed to this great nation.
This truly was the greatest generation .. this coming from a anglo/hispanic Marine. Awesome video great history directly from the mouths of veterans themselves. Thank you for your service to OUR country.
What's funny is the video actually falls to mention the New Mexico National Guard, 200th Coastal Artillery Regiment (AA), the first Mexican American unit to fight in World War 2. The 200th fought bravely and well in the defense of the Philippine Campaign in '41-'42 before surrendering to the Japanese. Subsequently, many of its soldiers marched in the horrific Bataan Death March.
My Mexican grandfather put up the first telegraph lines on Diamond Head. Dad ran off in 1943 to join the merchant marines at 16 for a year then joined the USMC and fought in the pacific then in China for 3 years, My uncle was an naval officer and another uncle served under Patton and help liberate the death camps. Do not under estimate Mexican Americans loyalty to this great country
Unfortunately now though many are making their good people look bad.. mexicans in America now 2022 are bigots in full force... mostly. As a kid I saw hispanic Americans as people like Gloria Estefan or Geraldo Rivera.
This is something to be proud of as a Latino and as an American. Too bad that all this new generations are stupid enough to ruin it for the rest of us obscuring this great history with there stupidities and gang violence. Makes me sad.
You're either a troll or pathetically ignorant if you believe Latinos are responsible for obscuring this history. It's the White establishment that omitted our presence in history only to turn around and portray us in the most stereotypical and negative light. When wealthy White folks like Trump were dodging the draft, young Latino men were serving and dying in disproportionate numbers. Latinos are basically the invisible community in this country despite being the largest minority group and predating Anglos in regions like the Southwest.

Brig General Robert Cardenas would have been a good interviewee. Not only did he fly B-24 Liberators in the European theatre, he went on to test pilot school and actually commanded the B-29 that carried the Bell X-1, the plane that broke the sound barrier. The X-1 was flown by Chuck Yeager. Cardenas also test flew an assortment of aircraft after the X-1 program.

My father served with my uncles (my dad's brothers) in the d-day invasion. Two or three of my uncles didn't make it. My dad and one of my uncles made it through. My grand mother's tear ducts dried up and she went blind after that. She later got bone cancer and passed when I was about 4 years old. My dad would drink a lot. Thank you so much for this documentary!
I, too...have had veterans who fought in WWII...my mother's parents and her maternal uncle (her mom's younger brother) did their duty during the war...my grandma was in the WAAC - Women's Army Auxillary Corps, as a clerk - and travelled stateside...I remember her saying how those were her best years of her life...
My grandpa - who was born in Mexico (his father remained in Spain while his mother emigrated to Toluca, where he was born) - was drafted in 1942...he fought in the European theatre, against The Third Reich...
My great-uncle, also fought in the same front as my grandpa did.
Grandpa died in July, 1970, when he was 52, my great uncle died in August, 2005, when he was 83, and my grandma died in February, 2018, when she was 97.
In a way or another, I owe it to them, to live my life in honor of them.
I am proud Mexican American combat veteran but I am also very proud of my 2 sons who also served their country. My oldest is a Navy veteran who now has a law degree while my youngest is currently a US Marine Captain who is excelling in the Corps...a big ssalute to all the brave men and women who have served and their family support. Congrats man. Well done. I was a young Marine once during the first gulf war.

Never served and am of Salvadoran descent but I look up to these fellow latinos. Proud you are part of my people.

Here is a part of Salvadoran history you might not have heard of.
They are not Latinos, they are Mexican-Americans.... This term didn't even exist back then.
You are Central American, to this world we are different people to me you are my brother to God we all equal.
Look up the history of a colonel Castellanos he was the Salvadoran counsel in Geneva I think. He provided Salvadoran passports to thousands of European Jews so that they wouldn’t be sent to concentration camps..

Precious video! Greetings from Mexico!
They are true hero’s. God Bless America. 🇺🇸
The video is about Mexican americans not Hispanics go find a video about Hispanics this ain't it
What's funny is the video actually falls to mention the New Mexico National Guard, 200th Coastal Artillery Regiment (AA), the first Mexican American unit to fight in World War 2.
@@MeltinJohn It sounds like you are the bigot
This is something to be proud of as a Latino and as an American. Too bad that all this new generations are stupid enough to ruin it for the rest of us obscuring this great history with there stupidities and gang violence. Makes me sad.
Agreed.
How you feel about biker gangs and KKK?
You're either a troll or pathetically ignorant if you believe Latinos are responsible for obscuring this history. It's the White establishment that omitted our presence in history only to turn around and portray us in the most stereotypical and negative light. When wealthy White folks like Trump were dodging the draft, young Latino men were serving and dying in disproportionate numbers. Latinos are basically the invisible community in this country despite being the largest minority group and predating Anglos in regions like the Southwest.
Proud white husband of a Mexican-American woman whose father and uncle served in and were wounded in WWII. And whose brother served in and was wounded in Vietnam
Sorry g, raza dont recognize Africans as ours.
Thanks to all the boys in ww1 and ww2 for you sacrifice we can never repay you for this freedom god bless you all

Excellent content! So important to remember we are all standing on the shoulders of the generation that came before us. Kudos❣️
My grandfather was my hero growing up...he was in the US Army wounded on Okinawa....my father was a US Marine reservist ..and I served six years in the US Navy...we are all proud Americans of Hispanic descent...
This is about Mexicans not Hispanics im be cil e.

My grandpa was in the 82nd airborne division. Landed in Saint Mere Eglise during the D-Day invasion.
Ramon Anguiano! I wish I could meet someone who served with him.

My family has fought in every war since the Civil War.
My father was in WWII and served in the Navy on the USS Tennessee. As a Mexican American he was really proud of his service in WWII and the Korean wars . My family was extremely proud of him and all Mexican American soldiers and all other soldiers that served in WWII and other wars. These men and women put their lives on the line to save this nation for the freedom that we enjoy today. God Bless

Still waiting for the racist US gobernment to give the CMOH to Mexican-American Marine gavaldon who has the US military record for most enemy captures (1,500) A white gringo soldier captured 80 and he was given the Medal of Honor!!
I agree 100%, Gavaldon surpasses all records of heros.
A very sad state of racist affairs.
Everyone should take time to read and know his impressive story.

Mexican Americans not latinos
There is no good reason why I wasn't taught this in school; [and] I'll bet some kids are [still] not learning about this today.
because i'm pretty sure everyone knows that there was different races fighting in ww2?
Were YOU taught about this in school, pretty sure?
I believe in God. I 'understand' blm. I don't know if that rises to the same level as 'believe in' in your book.
[but] Why do you ask [on this page honoring "Valentia: Mexican-Americans in World War II"?
Ordinarily, it is people who define movements and not movements that define people. [straw man arguments aside] What in your mind is a 'blm person'? I'm glad to hear you love all. I love all 'people' [lost and saved], but not all 'behaviors'.
There is so much Latino history that is hidden as well as Black history!
Great show 😢😢👋👋👋👏👏👏💪💪👍👍
Proud to be both 🇲🇽 🇺🇸
I loke to see the video on the Americans of mexican descent who fought for the Confederacy.
Thank you Richard Yniguez and all the contributors to this documentary.
My G-pa, de Monterrey Mexico, to the fields of Lansing Mich, to the USS Suwanne (CVE-27) in WWII, to US citizenship in 1953. Im 3rd Gen USN, 2nd Gen American. When I was at sea, I would think about him a lot. And then thought, Thank God I dont have Japanese kamikazing my ship, they got hit twice.
I can see the veterans are still very emotional from their experiences. God bless them.
One of my college friends' father served on an aircraft carrier during WWII . HE WAS a Mexican American from New Mexico.
I can’t say enough how well produced this documentary was. The real deal with a lot of heart and soul. Yes, we too, are Americans. Yes, racism still exists even to this day. And yes, we need to call all out racism whenever, wherever, and however it exists. Signed Joe Guerra, E-7, Oregon Army National Guard, Retired 2008, Honorable Discharge.
As an Army Brat this video brings tears to my eyes. Im a 7th generation American of Mexican decent. We have over 70 active and past members who are serving or served our country on every battle field going back over 150 years. I love this country.
Does anyone know a video of a Mexican American soldier from WW2 who earn a Purple Heart because he hold ground from nazis using a sniper?

I served in 1976 right out of High School, but during that it could of lasted longer, because of the truce in 73, and what happened with Tet in 68, it was all say so, but being Chicano would prepare me; for what were to happened if something did.
I oftentimes feel silly leaving comments on videos posted many years ago but I’ll comment on this one. I find myself delving into a lot of Mexican History/stories lately. I was raised by a single mother(PR) and I never knew my father (Mexican). He was in the U.S. in the early 60’s unfortunately I never got to meet/know him.

My great granduncle was one of the many Hispanics from Guatemala on Utah Beach during D-DAY. He was killed later inland at Lorraine. I got to visit his grave recently in France and pay my respects to him. He was an Native Guatemalan from the Mam Maya community of Huehuetenango.
My mom and the doctors managed to get him to stop. They saved him and I miss him so much.
I’m an American with Mexican heritage, but now because of my awareness I have become a chicano . I know that change is only possible if we become more involved in activism n use our vote to make a difference.
I am so amazed my relative was on this video. I am a geneologist constantly studying online and I come across tid bits about war. For example ships from Germany bought by French and are involved against USA during WWII and the Prairie in Hawaii when it was suppose to be in Virgina. Had a telegram that stated all ships to Hawaii at time of attack. I watch a film where the King of England was at Hawaii radios....made me wonder how everything really happen. I was not looking for this info just stumbled on it. I really like this video in an educatinal manner. And I cried with them.
