    Poor Nicki. His "inner darkness" described from the beginning felt so relatable, so much like depression and self-destructive behaviour, and each step after Lestat was turned just made things worse for him, it seems. He deserved joy in his life. I wonder how things would have turned out, if neither of them would have become a vampire. Being left behind by who he loved without knowing why and than turning into the dark being he apparently aways saw in himself, even if by own free will, really did destroy any light left.

    I wonder why Marius would choose to make himself known to Lestat and not his own fledgling whom thought he'd been dead an entire 500 years. Talk 'bout ghosting. Poor Armand lol. Need to find The Vampire Armand after this. Thanks so much for uploading these.

    • @stevenpark5950

    • @kitsulu8576
      @kitsulu8576 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@stevenpark5950 I started reading Armand, and Lestat, learning more of Marius and Armand's characters, I figured that was most likely the case. I don't blame Marius either. Armand was/is delusional and psychotically obsessed with old religion and satanism philosophy to the point where he's utterly disgraceful and hopeless (where I'm at in the books anyway). Thanks for confirmation though.

    • @stevenpark5950
      @stevenpark5950 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@kitsulu8576 You're so welcome :) The full answer is likely more nuanced (and therefore much more down to your interpretation as a reader imo). I often thought there was an element of shame for failing to protect him, but that's reading between the lines. Marius is a supremely proud creature and I always suspected an unreliable narrator where his own feelings are concerned.

    • @darrekworkman5595
      @darrekworkman5595 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@stevenpark5950 It's more than that. Even though I have only read "The Vampire Lestat" and "Interview With A Vampire" with regard to why Marius never looked for Armand. Marius never stopped loving Armand but he didn't respect him because of how easily he feel in with the satanic vampires. Armand was violently enslaved as a young boy and up until he got with Daniel he was always trying to find a way to appease his capturers including Marius. He describes Lestat like he was the one who violently destroyed the satanic vampires in Paris, but Lestat didn't do that. That is because that is how Armand sees the world. He begs both Lestat and Luis too basically take him as their slave. That he will do whatever they wish as long as they accept him. In a way he treats Daniel similarly. They argue and Armand didn't want to make Daniel a vampire, but he did amass a fortune apparently solely to give Daniel a life of luxury. He made the night island, but only after he started seeing Daniel. Daniel really can't control Armand, but with Armand's issues he can only be on equal footing with someone like Daniel. Armand would have given all his wealth to Daniel if he wanted it, but all Daniel wanted was to be made a vampire, something Armand promised he wouldn't do to anyone. He did give that to Daniel eventually. It's pretty clear that Daniel thought Armand was in control of everything, but Armand did all of the stuff Daniel described for Daniel without him even being aware of it.

    The bit where Gabrielle buries herself in the great outdoors is implausible. It is one thing to dig a hole in the dirt with your bare hands. It is quite another to lie down in that hole and pull that dirt down on top of you. Think of the time when you may have laid down on a beach and on a whim attempted to cover your entire body with sand. That doesn't work well without help.

      There is a Vampire Chronicles series set for 2022 in AMC networks. I believe it's supposed to be the Interview with the Vampire tales. Apparently they own all the rights to Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches, so it sounds like they would maybe lay out the whole story over time. Guess we'll have to see.

    An observation: I originally read the series when it came out. So, decades ago. After watching the first two seasons of IWTV, I decided to listen to TVL. I must say - I was expecting a lot of sexual inuendo that I perhaps hadn't picked up on as a youngster. However, despite all the YT headlines like "Why are all Anne Rice's vampires gay?" TBH, there really isn't any solid indication of their sexuality, and certainly no sex scenes in (the first 13 hours) of this book. All of that overt sexuality seems to have been added by the scriptwriters. I adore both versions, but it's just an observation.

      I don't think that Gabrielle is a good mother but she did love Lestat enough to try and understand him even when he is the same in neglecting her wants and needs. To the point that she even love him despite being diffent from him. The fact that Lestat could not even be bothered as to try to endulge Gabrielle even for a while is very poetic although I find it more painful in part that Lestat cannot bring down his pride for the one he loves so much, the one that gave him the tiny bit of light when he needed it the most, and specially when he did not even see the true reason behind the efforts and actions of Gabrielle.
