I know exactly what you mean. What really gets me is that there’s no real distinction between characters. You have to really focus to recognize who speaking if you drift off for a second you won’t know who’s talking. So annoying.
This 5th book of the vampire chronicles is on Spotify premium with a much better narrator. I'm listening on both platforms tho but thank you for posting. Literally made my day, as only one other audiobook available here on YT but it's the exact same muffled recording. Anne Rice my dear you are so missed! 💔

Been waiting for this one! Ah Lestat, your clue was that he insisted in being called "the devil"; that means "false accuser" or "one given to slander". He was offended by the appellation of "Satan", the Adversary, which was what he claimed to be!

I cannot stand Simon Vance's voice, and it's completely miscast for someone who is young like lestat. I felt like I was listening to a grandfather. The tone of this narrator's voice is significantly better- not perfect, but anything is better than the achingly slow and elderly Simon Vance. I wish this had a higher bitrate.

I know right! It's actually both, it was ripped from an old, OLD cassette tape set I've had for years now! I'm actually working on fixing it with the "Audacity" audio program I have, when I have the time that is... I appreciate the feedback though...

Maharet is an ancient, being from the first brood, and she and her sister are now co-queens of the damned because they ate the brain and heart of akasha.
Why the new narrator?? I can't listen to this voice for long...which is quite unfortunate because I was truly enjoying these stories read by the prior narrator.
While this movie (Queen of The Damned) certainly changes the events of QOTD, it doesn't change the events of it nearly as much at the first 16 minutes of this "audio book" do. No idea where this came from but this isn't Memnoch the Devil and it completely changes the roles and status of characters involved in the same way as AMC's Interview With the Vampire does... That's all well and good but if you're going to change a thing at least convey that it is an alt of some kind. Further: Maharet is not the ancient QOTD. Akasha is. Maharet becomes the QOTD embodying the essence of such after the events of the written QOTD when she, a Talamasca agent, dies and is turned.
And more: Memnoch the Devil is my absolute FAVORITE Anne Rice book (tied with Body Thief maybe?) as it conveys the depth of hell and breadth of heaven and the GOD CRISIS that Lestat goes through. Beautifully written, wonderfully entaled. I speak for every scribe when I say DON'T FUCK WITH THE ORIGINAL SCRIPT. Write your fanfiction somewhere else.

Anne rice perfectly portays a manipulative narcissist in her descriptions of lestat and his actions. Ive been wondering whether it's because she herself is a manipulative narcissist, or someone very close to her. The way she's able to perfectly slip into lestat's various incarnations leads me to believe it's her whom is the narcissist. Its infuriating and at the same time hypnotic. Exactly how a narcissistic master manipulator is. Either way, cudos. This narrator is garbage though.
