Anne Rice had the most unique take on vampirism in my opinion. She made it sound like being one of the immortals was like being on a permanent hallucination... Stuck on psilocybin and never getting old. Getting stronger each day and finding one cure for every hunger and every need a human has. Sex.. Food... Drink.... All in the blood. God I wanted to be one when I read these books for the first time .
    A true genius

I love this book in particular but I have all the books in the series. When it comes to the movies, I have not been as much of a fan. The first IWAV with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt was well done but the casting of Tom as Lestat didn't quite work for me.
Anyway, I waited years along with everyone else for the more recent one to air. When it finally did, I read reviews where a lot of people said that they didn't like it and they emphasized how much the show differed from the book. Since I was really into the books, I felt the show would be a disappointment so I didn't watch it ... until about a month ago.
The reason I decided to watch it is because I had a conversation with someone who really liked it and recommended that I give it a chance. Let me just say, that although they took some definite liberties with the show, it still really worked, imo and I'm glad I decided to check it out.
I wasn't expecting much from the actor portraying Lestat because I am hard to please when it comes to that; however, to say that Sam Reid impressed me as Lestat is an understatement! Bravo! Also, the actor who portrayed Louis was excellent. The show hooked me!! The whole cast was good.
I still prefer the books and "Anne's version" but it really was well done and I am really anticipating Season 3. Bring it!!

Despie having read these books a few times, the part when Lestat is describing what it was like to hear Nicoli play the violin for the first time never ceases to move me deeply. It is truly exceptional.
The details. The passion. The buried emotions in Lestat that find themselves suddenly and unexpectedly allowed to surface. You feel what Lestat is describing! It's all there, a vision, an image, all composed with words alone. When he cries, I cry.
Rare are the words that make you laugh out loud, or cry true tears of emotions. R.I.P. Anne Rice. Your words live on.

She really was a fine writer. But like many authors of popular fiction, the "critics" wouldn't recognize her talent and, instead, her books were lumped into the horror genre. The dialogue, the imagery, the prose, the accessibility... all those elements come together to make her books enjoyable and great. But you won't find Ann Rice on many "best literature" lists. At the very least "Interview With a Vampire" should be included for the caliber of writing and creativity. Well, it's my personal favorite, anyway. 😊

Just having easily washed clothes is an awe inspiring thing to Lestat. I get it. I have a new approximation of things I would normally take for granted. I have never, however ever stopped recognizing how damn important a hot shower is for mental health. A hot shower gives me life, oh and soft toilet paper.

    Read this last year and going in for a second listen this year, just in time for Halloween. The first Rice novel I read and I'm so glad I chose this one to begin the Vampire series. In my opinion Lestat's origins are what really set the tone for the journey with the rest of the bunch. Though Louis' perspective of him was mostly bittersweet and and eventually loathsome, I still always find myself in Lestat's shoes when hearing his inner demons an sympathize with him. Frank Muller, though not having an accent with the narration really seated my love for this chapter of the series. It's difficult to hear Lestat any other way. Happy reading and I hope you enjoy this Dark Gift ;--;

💯!!! This is Lestat's version, in Lestat's words. The prologue was ingenious having Lestat address the "reader." Lestat as Anne has written him in this second book is much more interesting than in the first book, IWAV. He has more levels, depth, idiosyncrasies. He has an uncanny realness.
There was an interview of Anne regarding the writing of this book that I saw once on TH-cam where she spoke about kind of channeling him. I think she said it was as though he spoke to her during the writing and said that she wasn't depicting him correctly and so to let him do it. Let him tell her who he is. It was something like that.
Well, it would seem that he was right. I never cared for Lestat in Louis' version in book 1. I didn't like him, although I liked the book very much. But in this second book, as "he tells" his story and who he is, you see the depth of his character and the interesting aspects of his personality shows. He is, as they say, quite the character. Lol

I recently watched the movie and had to find the books. Thanks for uploading❤
Honestly Louis never understood Lestat in the first book and it's sad. I hope they end up together again lol

Love this series, thanks for uploading it. That being said, the first chapter where he describes 1984 is a right laugh, I know it's coming from the perspective of a centuries old vampire but 1984 was nowhere near as innocent as Anne/Lestat saw it.

Thank you for sharing this with us! I bought and read the first book. It was the only book I have ever read which almost word for word appeared in the movie. I never purchased this book because I didn't like the character Lestat from the first book. So imagine my pleasant surprise now! It actually is very good.

HOW DID YOU NOT CRUSH ON LESTAT BIGTIME?! Why didn’t you like him in the first book? 🙂

Oh, wonderful!! I own this narration and obtaining it was no small feat. Lestat is my favorite character of any book I've read and I'm an avid reader. About 5 or so years ago, this being my favorite of Anne's Vampire Chronicles, I decided to listen to it on Audible.
However, the particular narrator that they offered while very good, I felt was not the right "voice" for Lestat. At some point, I heard a bit by this narrator and thought, this is it! But Audible didn't have this narration and couldn't obtain it.
I began looking for it to purchase; it took a while but I refused to give up and I finally found it on Ebay.
Thank you for uploading this narrator. Imo, his narration is superb! This is my absolute favorite in the series. Anne did an excellent job, in particular with this, Book 2 told from Lestat's pov. Lestat is the most "fleshed out" character - no pun intended - LOL that I have ever read. The levels, personality nuances and depth of the character Lestat is amazing. She was an excellent writer.
