  • In this video, I go over the latest investment banker salaries and bonus figures. I discuss how much investment banking analysts and associates earn at the top bulge bracket investment banks like Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, and Morgan Stanley. Banks recently increased their compensation figures due to the war for talent and as a result, junior banker salaries have meaningfully increased in 2021.

    Does the MBA advice apply for those who have no corporate experience? I’m in medical school (finished 1st year) but I have learned pretty quickly that I want to work in finance (I spent more time studying fundamental analysis and real estate investing than I did med).
    Because I pursued medicine, I worked in a research lab, then I had a terrible year where I did nothing (family extenuating circumstances, grieving) and then started medicine. Going to an MBA, will I then get hired as an associate and receive on the job training?

    For investment baking how valuable is experience doing high stress analytical work outside of banking? That is some mighty fine compensation/salary, but ultimately, time is invaluable after a certain point. Yeah, it's great to have a nice house, a nice car and be able to travel, but you're living to work and not working to live. I could *maybe* hack it for a few years, but like you, I'd take the money for a few years, bolt and try something else. If I missed out on lots of events with family/friends because of work and then something bad happened them, the guilt would eat me up. No amount of money can compensate for lost time with people who are important to you.

    Hi Ben, in your experience how hard is it to climb the ranks of an investment bank from analyst all the way to MD? What percentage of people get to the MD level and what happens to those people that get forced out. Especially for post-MBA associates since PE/VC/HF firms typically don't hire them. Thanks, hope you and your mother are doing well.

    • @rareliquid
      @rareliquid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      hmm banking work isn't that hard on the analyst / associate level but what gets tough is from the VP to MD level you have to be good with clients and your role shifts into a salesman type role. you still have to be good with analysis but more at understanding it quickly and presenting it. so really hard to say but if you're good at being an associate and your team likes you then most post-MBA's i've seen have had no issues getting promoted

      i've commented about this in a few videos haha i would say it was a very odd decision amongst my group. i felt "pressured" to think about the buy side and did recruit lightly for them but never really went hard at it because i don't i ever truly wanted to go into the buy side. i was more interested in joining a tech firm but then i ended up quitting, traveling, and pursuing entrepreneurship instead. don't have any regrets
