In tech sales you get all that minus the long hours. Pay isn't as great and guaranteed. One can argue you learn more senior level skills younger in your career. Like having to articulate value to C-suite individuals to get them to get a certain outcome.
Hey! I love your channel. Always enjoy your videos. I’m going into college this next fall. Figuring out my next few years of interning etc. . I am quite inspired to become an investment banker, I am an ultra runner, so some good hard work is a passion of mine - I have heard a bit about consulting, I was curious what your thoughts on consulting vs banking is? It seems you see banking is an amazing step in pushing your limits, and gaining experience. Thanks so much, Owen.
Ive been surfing on the internet for figures and comparing software engineering salaries with IB , only finding answers that say that IB persons make less money than what many other professions
Hi i would like to know, between finance and economics, which one is better to get into investment banking? I ask because i have to decide whether to continue my studies with a masters in economics or switch to finance.
Probably finance imo, I’m doing financial economics, and economics doesn’t teach you Jack about practical financial application, economics teaches you well economics, but that could vary from university to university
Hi Ben, great video! I'm from the UK I am starting my business management degree and have decided to specialise in accounting and I'm a slightly older student at 23 so I'm taking my career choice very seriously and would like to know whether you think I'm a good fit for investment banking. I've never been and still aren't a maths whizz but I have always been fascinated by how stocks and large companies work and how they are valued and manage, allocate and raise capital. I also understand and respect the value of time and money and how the two are closely connected, especially in todays society so even though I aren't great at maths, I understand maths when put into context. As a former banker, what's your opinion? I'd really appreciate your reply, Ashley.
Hey Ben, I wanted to ask did you ever consider going into management consulting (Mckinsey, Bain, BCG) when you were still in university? If so, what made you pick investment banking over consulting? Thanks, love the videos!
@@rareliquid Oh thanks, just finished the video and realised you touched on this topic. I just wanted to send my comment straight away before watching the video so it would grab your attention! Keep up the great content 💫
how would you recommend to start learning about ib as a high schooler? i’m still unsure about whether i’m interested, but don’t know where to start getting immersed into it. any advice would help!
Hey Ben, I'm currently working in a trading desk at a BB and would like to internal transfer into ibd, do you have any tips for me plz? Thank you so much!
i think doing really well at your job will help a lot + internal networking but in general I'd say it's pretty hard. More longer term, I would consider going to MBA school if you can
nope financial analyst is much broader and is usually at normal companies while investment banking analysts only work at banks and work on M&A / equity / debt transactions
I left IB after 4 years cuz of the toxic work culture and lack of diversity. If you’re black or PoC, you get treated differently and get passed over for promotions. It was exhausting and I wish I got out sooner for the sake of my mental health. It really is like a boys’ club/frat. Solid video, but definitely not for everyone
