Excellent. No unnecessary thrash and shred. No pointless distortion which obliterates the guitar's basic tones. Really good, clear demo of the effects. Well done. 10/10
@Nintariz Obviously not - but so many (too many) demos begin with and only use heavy distortion and overdrive which can make even a plank with old gutbusting strings sound good. Distortion etc. isn't the be-all and end-all and many players like to use and need to hear clean tones first to get an idea of the basic quality, tone and sustain of an instrument before it is hooked up to all manner of devices. I use most clean tones with a touch of reverb and maybe either chorus or phasing except when I use a Moor Ocean Machine when I don't use anything with except for it's own inbuilt FX ... but mostly I play clean so that's always where I prefer to start when checking out demos for a new instrument.
Amazing, simply amazing...Thank You for doing this “most excellent” demo on this AMAXING amp. I’m 63 yrs young and am thinking about getting an Ibanez guitar and amp to rekindle the magic I felt when I played in a couple of bands in the 70’s and early 80’s. I am really impressed with this amp, all due to your great demos.....Many thanks and keep up the great work...
Same FX on the CHampion 20 --- with 3 variables for each of the FX (all not demo'd here on the 40, but they're the same). 40 has two channels whereas the 20 only has one. The 12" speaker for the 40 gives you a more well-rounded tone. I have the 20 and love it.
Bought this amp to play my harmonica into, the effects worked great with them. Had a 25R fender, that was pushed when I gigged with it, I think this 40W will do fine.
+Blake Wright yeah my accent..oeps Hey Blake don't know if you play electric guitar, but if you do, you can share it on my new webpage www.abouttone.com/best-electric-guitars.html kind regards, Martin
He didn’t demonstrate it but the reverb is also blended with 2 of the other effects. There’s a reverb with chorus and a delay with reverb. Obviously an effects pedalboard is more optimal and to really give these amps some real flexibility, an effects loop would have been perfect. But I’m thinking they were designed more as entry level amps for the beginner-intermediate sold at a price point that won’t bust anyone’s budget. These are miles ahead of the Frontman models they apparently replaced, in terms of the ease of operation and the tones you can get from them. The 100 is more flexible when it comes to the onboard effects, if memory serves.
Hi, I have several amplifiers of the same power and this is the most versatile, great on all occasions... The 12 inch speaker performs well in all genres and in case a couple of pedals can help to make an even better judgment.
I just got this amp from metronome and it sounds great, I personally like grunge so this amp is perfect for that, it is pretty much a amp with 3 more built in amps witching, it is also very good for metal just don’t turn every thing all the way up cuz it ls super loud especially in a tiny room.
Do you think fender runs their speakers in a bit before shipping them out ? I always put music through them for 24 hours when new and they get so much better....run em in

thank you so much this helped me understand how the effects work!! I'm looking for a decent priced amp to buy with xmas money!! Thank you so much for the demo
Hey! Excellent video! But there’s something I keep wondering: does the colour of the light next to ‘FX select’ mean anything? Like is red a sign that the sound could damage the amp or the guitar?
Great concise video. Thanks. FYI, I like this inexpensive little amp so much i bought a 2nd one , upgrading the speakers in both. Incredible tone/power - to - weight/price ratio.
@@MartinAbouttone An Eminence Lil' Texas (neo) in one amp for lightest weight. An Eminence Wizard in the other for greatest apparent loudness (the most efficient speaker on the market). Both excellent upgrades over the stock speakers.

Nice reivew. Have you compared this with Champion 50XL (which is about 25% costlier)? Not sure what more it offers than Champion 40. Any insighnts would be highly appreicated. For mainly clean tones (and dirt from multi-effect pedals), how would this amp compare to Boss Katana 50?
@@MartinAbouttone One more question: while playing over a backing track via the aux in, if the amp is in distortion mode, will the sound of the backing track be also distorted?
I love mine but definitely need to run pedals in front of it to get the sounds I want. Great amp- affordable pedal platform. I swapped out the speaker for a Warehouse ET 65. Is louder with more clarity. Very Gigable little amp and not very heavy!!! YAY
I would any advise to buy an old champion 110 bulit in the early nineties! These are killer amps! The new fender sound weak and you cant use this effects on stage..
Just bought mine. I have a question : when I switch into the distorted channel, the sound become very dark and "close" while turning model knob clockwise. Into "metalamp model" I have to rise a lot the high tones to get an acceptable sound. It's normal this behaviour or my Champion40 may be faulty ?
Thank you so much, sounds great. Just wondering, two things. Does this amp have a recording out. And can we combine effects or is it just one at a time.
You can’t combine effects. I don’t think it has a recording out. I don’t own the amp anymore. You can check the manual: www.fmicassets.com/Damroot/Original/10001/OM_23303XX900_Champion_40_USplus5.pdf
