I'm 57 years old and I've been playing guitar since 1987. From a technical perspective, Sophie can play rings around me. The best thing about this montage is the clips that show her playing with a metronome. That's serious practice. Serious practice brings serious results. She starts playing at 9, and by the time she's 21, she's a shredder. Sophie, you are very talented, but what this video demonstrates most is the effort. Simply: The practice. You're an amazing player, and you obviously worked very hard to get there. Well deserved!
She isn't talented she's hard working and you're not. You wasted decades noodling around like most instead of targeting goals and working towards them with a metronome and now you pretend everyone who is better than you is more talented or whatever.
@@chrisking6695 Hey buddy, I hope u release that other people have things they do in there lives. Besides you totally missed the context of his comment. You are a total ******.
I'm 53 to been playing for decades,Sophie plays circles around me to,I hope she gets a good gig with successful band so all her dedication pays off,if she writes her own tunes best of luck, she is outstanding,
I was also 9 when I started playing guitar then piano at 11. Now at 65 I totally suck after putting them down. I blame long work hours and raising a daughter by myself. You’ve inspired me to pick it up again. Played every so often and still know my chords but finger tips have gone soft.
I'm only 27 but took a 5+ year break because of work. Got sick, had surgery, and been at home for a year so I picked it back up. The first few weeks were a grind, and my fingers even bled a little, but it was the best decision I've made since I've been off
Git it back...we can. I'm 72 and lost it thru developing essential tremors in my left hand. Now am determined to restore some of what I had thru diciplined scale work with the metronome. It can be done. This lady is complete inspiration.
Exactly! I noticed the same thing. She was always pretty good up until then for someone with her level of experience. But that 3 year ramp up was extraordinary. Basically between 4 years of playing and 7. Looks like that was her sweet spot. Gives me hope.
I agree.. when she hit 15 and 16 she was already better than I am today and I've been playing my whole life. The progression doubled between 15 and 16.
Yes, more Pink Floyd. You are absolutely amazing. It’s very encouraging to see so much talent at such a young age. You earned a new subscriber today. Thanks
Hi Sophie. You are a true inspiration. I am 53, and have been playing on and off since I was 16, and am still crap. You are proof that passion coupled with hard work can produce amazing results. There was nothing cringeworthy in this at all. Thanks for sharing. You just got a new fan and subscriber. I hope that if you are ever having a day with low inspiration, or just feeling a bit down, that you can remember how many of us look up to you as a guitar goddess, and can only wish that we had the drive and dedication that you have had through life to excel at a craft like you have. Keep Rockin' :)
Some people might look at someone as young as you shredding like that and get discouraged but tbh it just makes me want to play more the one thing I wish I had more time for was practicing and learning new licks.
@Morbid Angel is better than Death you know all your doing is proving your missing the point right? Shredding is a skill and a really tough one nobody said it was all you have to do to be good but its a nice skill to have. Style over substance is the dumbest argument to make in an entirely subjective artform like music, if you can't appreciate alittle shred here and there then that's your problem but now your trying to make it other peoples problem by telling them what they should or shouldn't do. Your not the god of taste and your opinion is not the only valid one here.
@Morbid Angel is better than Death you are literally missing the point nobody ever said shred was the most important skill! Seriously for godsake stop replying your wasting your time arguing with yourself over things you imagining have been said.
@Morbid Angel is better than Death I said some people would now take your inane opinion somewhere else and stop fucking up my comment that was meant to be nice with your judgemental BS.
As you have mastered many styles and artists and groups. The world can only look forward to you showcasing your talent with your own original music . I hope you make a positive impact on everyone who hears you play and you meet. God bless you !
AAAAAAH!!! This is cuteness overload! What an amazing journey =) This is no embarassment... it's true inspiration =) Really wish Germany would have a bit of such music culture xD Totally random and girly question: How long did it take you to get these curls straight at 7:55 ? I guess that must have taken ages? =O
Muahahahaha. Yep. That was a girly question. Nice to see both little spider hands ladies. PS. Germany has good music culture in classics. ;) Still nothing will beat Katyusha. Cheers from Poland.
Hey Jassy 🤘 In the 80s and 90s there was a great music culture at least here in NRW/Ruhrpott especially regarding metal and stuff. I know this is a little bit late for you but now there is Internet and Media and things are so much easier this days. You can literally take part of music culture all over the world 💖🎅🤘
I started playing guitar 3 years ago at 37 and when I see people like Sophie and (you) JJ play some hard rock it makes me feel kind of discoraged and useless. No matter how quickly I improve and how much I feel like I'll never be good enough with my guitar playing. I wrote 3 crappy riffs so far not too many views on them and I am not sure what I can do to play faster and sound better. Finger tapping just seems to take me longer than usual to learn properly. I am thinking of switching from my first ever Gio Ibanez guitar to a Epiphone Les Paul in near future. Both of you are amazing guitar players and I give huge props to both of you.
Anyone who is a seasoned player can pick up just how fast her progress was. Where she was at 15 (6 years of playing) would take the majority or similarly skilled players 15-20 years or more, even putting in daily hours. Many won’t even get to that level in their lifetimes, in fact. And yet she was just getting started.
Absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. You should be very proud. When I was eight years old I had great aspirations to be a talented guitarist also. That was 52 years ago. I’m no better than I was at age 8. You inspire me to try again at age 60. There are so many wonderful people like you on the internet willing to show what’s possible when you work hard at it. I love your videos. Bob
I like how humble you are..your extremely talented yet 0 ego. Your journey is interesting to watch as you start surrounded by other players and slowly they disappeared to the point your at home still going working on your craft and wow your dedication and hard work certainly payed off..one hell of a good player.bravo 👏
If you're embarrassed by that, I can't imagine what it would take to actually make you proud... as you should be. I know it's said so often it probably doesn't even register with you anymore, but "amazing" is the word that best describes you. Thank you for being, Sophie. The world needs you.
Not sure how I ended up hear lol but just wanted to say your playing is really good. As a guitar teacher of decades & students all around the world,I can truthfully say It's rare to see people excel this fast. Maybe one In 500. Stay humble and open minded as a player and the growth will never end. Great job. KEEP ROCKIN'
You have absolutelyy NO reason to be embarrassed or feel like any of it was cringe-worthy in my opinion You have become a masterful guitar wizard in my book and I have been playing for 46 years Metal has always been what I gravitate to and you play it so well Thanks for sharing your amazing journey thus far Keep on doing what you love!!
What's so delightful about your online presence is that your playing is in the foreground, and your lovely appearance is the bonus. Obviously, no fake needed, because chops are real. Cheers!
Another important part of your journey is the diversity in the music you play. It's important to not just focus on the genre you want to be in but also try other genres. You'll learn lots of techniques, patterns, and rhythms, which will make you a better guitarist in your favourite genre in the end. I didn't do it, progress was slow, and then I quit for 8 years due to limited time, studies, work and stuff. Only recently got back and it is frustrating to have to start from scratch again and fail even at songs I could play back in 2014. My biggest enemies back then were gallops and arpeggios/sweeps, still are but now I also can't do all of the other techniques anymore
Sophie, I'm Antonio and I'm writing to you from Spain. I wanted to tell you that for me you are the best rock guitarist with electric guitar in the world. You are amazing!
The two Extreme tracks really showed your prowess. Those twelve years have paid dividends for you and may it continue long into the future. You have earned another subscriber.
My granddaughter is going to be 15 next month. The facial resemblance between the two of you is incredible. Your brilliance and innocence still show through but are now more radiant, as well as your prowess and expertise. It's awesome to see that your drive and determination as a youngster fed the feel and passion as you grew. As the skills developed, the passion was more easily conveyed, and we are the beneficiaries of all that. Thank you for being an example of what can be accomplished when you pour out everything you have and see it through to the end. But I can see and hear a new phase of your journey! So here's to the next 20 years!! It's all about feel now...so show us how you feel 🙏🙏🤘
Sophie, I’m contacting you all the way from Maine USA you are a very talented guitar guitarist and you should be proud of what you have accomplished and never be embarrassed. You rock.
@@smkh2890 if you don't practice the right way, nope. She practiced with a metronome and that gave her the timing she needed to become fast. And she practiced scales and solos and lots of other stuff instead of jumping on the bed and playing 3 power chords and pretending to be a rock star which is what I did for most of my childhood.
Which era of Sophie did I like best? The Get the Funk Out Clip. You looked cool as hell and it was just an all around very natural vibe emanating from you. And you kicked ass playing the solo too. Very badass. My favourite clip of you. Edit: the hair was also really cool and I love all eras of Sophie.
I loved all your phases. It just shows that your passion for guitar was from an early age and you didnt give up. Absolutely wonderful journey so far young lady.
Just found your channel! I just love the nine year old! Passion is not to be embarrassed about. Passion is what makes you succeed! I'm totally going to listen to more of your videos and follow your success!
Thank you for the journey, I wish I’d recorded my progress. Your achievements are appreciated. Everyone started somewhere and the early videos showed nothing more than someone falling in love with music. Well done. Cheers
I am an old English man emigrated to the U S continent over 29 years ago. You have such a talent and are so modest about it, you should not be. So much dedication to perfection and total commitment so rare these days! Awesome performances, fantastic, keep going. Ex Pat Brit
Amazing transformation You can see you had the talent and that you applied yourself! Great work Great Artist! I love watching you play and the joy and fascination that’s within you! You are the best!
You slay, Sophie!! I’m going to show this to my daughters. We are learning together and I’m going to enjoy seeing them bypass their mum. You’re an inspiring woman.
12 years and since the journey is just beginning... You've got still such a long way to go, keep up and continue to please our ears with this incredible talent... You must have hear it a billion times, but once again YOU ROCK!
Quite a journey Sophie! You are amazingly talented and the passion you show while playing is enjoyable to watch! You make it look so easy! Keep on rockin young lady! Thanks for sharing! Much love! ❤️
I wish I had started at 9, waited until my 40's. But the great thing about recording you progress, is you see how much you improve. can't believe those solos at 11 and 12. great work
Love this! it's the guitarist's full circle: start with the sweets obsession (Sweet home child of mine,) then Some heavy metal, then transition to super-fast mind-bending highly technical symphonic metal and then, the blues, but played with the feeling (fink ployd) and finally finding your own voice.
You ROCK Girl! 🤘... im 50, been playin since high school. I sound like eddie cuz i studied his style so extensive that i never developed my own style. You keep playin Miss Sophie and i hope you put out an album, id buy it. I'll keep watchin & listening.

I absolutely love that you're into Alter Bridge. Mark and Myles are two of my favorite modern musicians. I've been fortunate enough to Mark on several occasions, but haven't met Myles yet.
This was really interesting to see how you grew up playing guitar, how you progressed in your play, You have so much talent, you kick so much ass on that guitar !!
The Pink floyd was amazing. Very few can make that “Floyd” sound. But u nailed it. And your song “Tranquility “. Just amazing. I listen to all the time. Thanks for everything you do !!!
I really like how in your early years especially how you played the same song at different ages. Most memorably sweet child of mine. At least in my opinion it's cool to see the out of tune bends, something relatable to all beginers, but then over the years you can see your learning process with realizing you play acoustic with a different approach, and on electric the bends start sounding in tune, then after that is when the Feel kicks in and it's obvious every aspect of your playing takes off from there. I guess my point is every guitarist feels cringe when they critic themselves learning but it was awesome of you to make it public so the rest of us can see even someone who obviously has it figured out nowadays had the very same "cringe" moments. That said my favorite phase was definitely the pink Floyd phase. Really nailed the feel. I definitely got that like "shit that was cool" giggle thing musicians get when they hear something that hits them in the soul.
Just saw this video for the first time as a new subscriber. Sophie you have nothing to be embarrassed, cringing about. It's so obvious that you absolutely love playing your guitars. Watching the progression from nine years old until now was a testament to pursuing your passion. If you were my daughter, I would be so proud.
Hi SOPHIE (-: My heart absolutely melted, and I was blown away when you played the two Pink Floyd solos, the Michael Jackson solo, and what I think was your original solo!!!
Sophie, as a recent subscriber and now follower in your amazing journey, I just wanted to wish you all the best , and hope you make it to wherever your dreams and desires take you. At 62 now myself and an aspiring guitarist as well , you inspire me , and I’m sure countless others to continue on our own journeys into the joys of music . Thanks, and keep doing what you love ..😊👍
You should be absolutely proud of where you are now. Big jump in ability at 14-15!! I have twice as many years and am at nowhere near your level. Keep rocking. Loved the Gilmore. You nailed it and of course Nuno, Guthrie and your own stuff at the end. Very impressed.
OMG. I only just learned about you from Musician Mansion, but I am SO HAPPY that I did! I mean no disrespect when I say that that guitar was bigger than you were in those early clips and that is one of the cutest things I have ever seen! You are a monster player and you have clearly earned your reputation by being a killer. Thank you for your work!
Be PROUD of what you are offering. You have a huge talent that crosses the frontiers! Go on and you'll reach your goals. I'm 57 too ;-) and listen to You with pleasure from Brussels Belgium... Europe
Not sure what I can say that hasn't been said but thought i'd weigh in. I've followed you on Instagram for about a year and quickly recognized what an amazing player you have become (And gorgeous too). Really enjoyed the video of your journey and as many have said, nothing to be embarrassed about. No one is born great and we all have to pay our dues but I saw the quantum leap in your ability in about year 3-4. Ive played for almost 50 years but have never reached the level you play at but I have used several of your David Gilmore solos to improve the ones i attempt to play. It is clear you have been influenced heavily by a lot of metal songs and your solos, neck work, bends and scales are just amazing. Not sure where you stand on SRV, but he is another favorite of mine and extremely technical to match. Hoping to see you cover a few of his songs in the future. Please keep rocking and getting better, you are an inspiration and appear to be a seriously nice person as well.
What an amazing video! Not even remotely cringe! I've followed your channel for a while, and you've grown by leaps and bounds. I most like the Pink Floyd covers era, where you're so comfortable with playing that you are enjoying it. That's a milestone. Continued success!
I love that. So vulnerable. You rock. I loved the GNR intro when you’re killin it with the older kids/adults. Clearly you stood out back then and still do
I'm a little late to this party, but my heart melted a little when you were 10 playing sabbath ! (Yep I'm on OLD school metal head and a dad of 3 girls) my youngest had an interest in guitar when she was little and walked away from it when she hit her teens. You are inspirational, I hope you get what you want from life.
I LOVE THIS! And damn, at 16 you were really starting to put it all together! HOLY SHIT! This vid of you from Dec 2016 "get the funk out," man, you're killing it and you look f+ing awesome (you look great now also, but... WOW)!
I did a relaxation script and produced the tape (we used to have those) for a class in graduate school. I used "Comfortably Numb" for the background music. Loved your cover young lady and can't wait to see your next video.
You're absolutely incredible. You were already so much better at 9 years old than I am after 4 years of playing guitar. I really regret I didn't make the switch earlier, I played the flute for 11 years before playing guitar.
12.2016 seems like a huge jump took place for you, not only in talent but also in appearance. Yeah, those single coil strat pickups have a very interesting sound. I am seeing those with the high gain amps are installing Hot Rails Puckups. Awesome Sophie! You have the potential of going down in history.
At absolutely no point in this video did you embarrass yourself. You should be proud of how far you have come.
You are so lovely
Absolutely!
Absolutely!
Turned into an absolute monster 14/15 yrs of age 😎👍
Yeah 👍
I especially like the message this video sends: Constantly practicing pays out! And I admire your braveness to go on stage right away.

So by the age of 85 I should be able to shred?
@@smkh2890 if you don't practice the right way, nope. She practiced with a metronome and that gave her the timing she needed to become fast. And she practiced scales and solos and lots of other stuff instead of jumping on the bed and playing 3 power chords and pretending to be a rock star which is what I did for most of my childhood.
Your Humility is Totally, Totally Overwhelming ... I am Totally Engrossed ...
Relax mikey.
I literally just heard tranquility and it is my favorite song
I have been playing guitar for almost 30 years and I have to say that I'm very impressed by you, as a player. ❤
The best version of you, Sophie, is right now! I love to see and hear the next generation of awesome guitarists like you!

You should be very proud of the musician you've become! Amazing journey Sophie!
Incredible journey. You are an amazing guitarist and leader for women

I wish I had started at 9, waited until my 40's. But the great thing about recording you progress, is you see how much you improve. can't believe those solos at 11 and 12. great work
Sensacional. Talentosa. Incrível. Parabéns Sophie pela sua determinação e amor ao que faz pela música. Um grande abraço.
Love this! it's the guitarist's full circle: start with the sweets obsession (Sweet home child of mine,) then Some heavy metal, then transition to super-fast mind-bending highly technical symphonic metal and then, the blues, but played with the feeling (fink ployd) and finally finding your own voice.
Это очень круто! Ты большая молодец, успехов тебе!!!!
You ROCK Girl! 🤘... im 50, been playin since high school. I sound like eddie cuz i studied his style so extensive that i never developed my own style. You keep playin Miss Sophie and i hope you put out an album, id buy it. I'll keep watchin & listening.

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME !!!!!
Looks like your guitar was bigger than you at that age.
I absolutely love that you're into Alter Bridge. Mark and Myles are two of my favorite modern musicians. I've been fortunate enough to Mark on several occasions, but haven't met Myles yet.
Dang, at 14 your skills just took off into orbit.
This was really interesting to see how you grew up playing guitar, how you progressed in your play, You have so much talent, you kick so much ass on that guitar !!
That symphony of destruction solo was awesome
Ur awesome girl. U got nothing to be embarrassed about ok uve came a long way and should be happy with ur self.
Well I found out I'm still at the age 15
Ha I went all way to .. 16.. nah we just suck
@@wintersoldier3971 i hate myself😭😭😭
I'm still at 9, and I am 34 🤣🤣🤣
@@jeffadrianeypanto1417 same bro
I was just taking my first guitar lessons at that age xD
The Pink floyd was amazing. Very few can make that “Floyd” sound. But u nailed it. And your song “Tranquility “. Just amazing. I listen to all the time. Thanks for everything you do !!!
Well this is the first thing that's every made me feel shit abt being a rhythm guitarist....
But can u down pick like James Hetfield..
Probably😂
Hahahaha no I can’t!
These kind of videos are so cool to watch, seeing someone's progression is always very interesting. Nothing embarrassing about it at all!
Ok....you've been playing better than me at 14.... you shouldn't feel embarrassed cause I feel embarrassed now
same
JFC, this is impressive. Your tone and phrasing on Shine On was IMPECCABLE. Gilmour would be proud.
All I can say is your so cute playing Sabbath and Average Lavine as a kid. Its been so fun watching you grow into the Shredder you are now.
I've played guitar for 14y and im currently at the stage of Sophie at 15-16 yo ahah your progress is impressive!
Passion, commitment with keen talent. What a wonderful combination. May you continue through a long, fulfilling life!
You're so talented Sophie! People who has no past, has no future. You are a beautiful person.
Europe
I’m 55 you are truly a great guitarist and I ve playing since 1983, love the hair metal bands , you truly are a inspiration, thanks for sharing!
Love the sound of a humbucker of course (particularly the Full Shred in my Charvel) but oh my goodness! When that Strat comes in!
as aguitarist of twenty years who didnt maintain his chops, be proud of every portion of this video. youre way more talented than I am. awesome
I love that. So vulnerable. You rock. I loved the GNR intro when you’re killin it with the older kids/adults. Clearly you stood out back then and still do
Looks like you have paid your dues, well done. many years of practice and dedication have transformed you into an accomplished musician.
I LOVE hearing you you absolutely tear it up.. Goddamn! Those Gilmore and EVH parts are so epic, and you seem to pull it off so effortlessly.
Some story you have made, so talented, so dedicated, your fingers are a blur sometimes, simply wonderful🎶🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
I LOVE THIS! And damn, at 16 you were really starting to put it all together! HOLY SHIT! This vid of you from Dec 2016 "get the funk out," man, you're killing it and you look f+ing awesome (you look great now also, but... WOW)!
Few people have the God given talent and self drive work ethic that it takes to be great. You are one of those few.
I did a relaxation script and produced the tape (we used to have those) for a class in graduate school. I used "Comfortably Numb" for the background music. Loved your cover young lady and can't wait to see your next video.
Wow. Super inspirational. I’m teaching my 9 year old niece how to play. I can’t wait to show her this video!
this woman can flat out play.... i love watching her face and the emotional expression. easy on the eyes as well. love her.
