Darol, you're a hoot! I did a brief workshop with you at the Vancouver Folk Festival back in the early 80's i think. You were so enthusiastic and forthcoming with great ideas. Workshop time over but you continued schooling us until Barbara pulled you away by the ear to get to your next performance.
Oh my Zeus, you did it! This is amazing, Darol. I never heard the somewhat elusive concept of modes explained in such a practical, concrete manner. I knew that context was important in music but never did I realize that having the _historical_ context of the development of modes would pave the way to understanding its utility. Thank you for your videos!
Such a fun explanation, especially your visual depictions of those crazy Greeks~ from those sober Dorians who'll dance if you get enough meat in them, to those smiling, weird Lydians probably hiding something, the rocking Mixolydians you need to keep daughters away from, to those moping Aeolians! Awesome, thanks for sharing!😆
Really interesting, I love studying the modes. We’ve just dumbed music down to two modes in modern music. What’s the point of ignoring the other five modes?
Fantastic way to explain and remember this! Thanks
