Your arguement for the flooding seems kind of flawed, all you do in the video is just say stuff like "flooding happens everywhere", "the flooding was 300 kilometers away". You should keep in mind that everything down river, effects the entire river, even if its 300 or 800 miles away, so the distance from the dam doesn't matter at all, and whenever you have finished that spiel you just say "anyways".
I live in India and every year we have floods. In the state I live we experience cyclones annually. But I have never seen flooding this bad in my city before. He is just delusional.

I have been going to China 2-3 times per month since 2011 and staying for a while each time. I can confirm that what serpentza and laowhy are reporting is true and accurate. As a matter of fact I experienced some of the same abuse and racism as they did, but over a much shorter timespan. I know some mandarin and can understand what people say about me. For example, a bank manager in China told his staff "don't help this guy he is a foreigner". China is the #1 most racist country in the world, and it is NOT a friendly place to visit.
Unfortunately, US haters are like US administration you really can't reason with them. I had been improving my English by watching SerpenZA channel like 7 or 8 years ago. He used to be quite neutral. However, just before he was ready to move to the US several years ago, he started becoming increasingly biased negatively towards China... I feel sorry for him.. I used to watch serpentza a couple of years ago but lately his narrative smack of the very propaganda that he espouses other people are a part of. Suffice to say I don't watch them anymore.
I'm from Hong Kong and I have to say that serpentza's videos are a very accurate depiction of China. It is not propaganda - it's the truth. It's a breath of fresh air for someone to actually be so candid about the dark side of China, and it is indeed very dark and it's good that someone is making the world aware of it. The reason why you don't hear much of what serpentza is talking about in Western media, is because of this news is either censored, or it's only reported locally, so if you can't read chinese you will never know. Hiding this dark side of China, or making excuses for it only hurts the Chinese people. Chinese people are suffering under this government - criticising the Chinese government is crucial to helping us achieve some sense of freedom or liberty.

Most likely, Serpenza and Laowy68 had tried various ways of extracting money out of their TH-cam channels and settled down on bad-mouthing China, perhaps because they found the most followers with the approach. In the beginning, they tried to be nice to China and Chinese people like you do but gradually changed to the opposite while they found these China-haters. I had followed their channels for a while and believe it was their deep arrogance and hate that attracted the followers. IMHO, the fact that iChongqing is government-funded doesn't automatically mean that Matt or the other TH-camrs who went on the trip were "bought". I just think it's important that such information be fully and unambiguously disclosed to the viewers. Anyone promoting a particular political point of view should strive to be fully transparent regarding any potential conflicts of interest, and that includes the receipt of compensation, in any form (such as hotels, meals, travel, etc.), from a government or government-backed organization. It's the ethical thing to do, and afterward if someone says, "Well, you're only defending China and criticizing the 'West' because you get free trips from the Chinese government", then at least you can say in response, "but the expenses that were paid for on that trip and by whom was fully disclosed in detail - I wasn't trying to hide anything." My main point is that content creators like Jayoe, Barrett, and Gweilo 60 should be open about who pays their way when they go on a trip or if they get something free from Huawei, etc... Why is this important? Because all these channels are pro-CCP and anti-West. We all know about the United Front Works Department in China, and how it tries to get any key opinion leaders or influencers to say good things about the CCP and to ignore the bad things (and criticize those who talk about the bad things). There's always a benefit to those who cooperate - for academics and public figures, the benefit is often a "fellowship" offered to them at a prestigious university in China, which, of course, includes a stipend and all-expenses-paid while in China. Sometimes, the Chinese government (through a university or NGO, etc.) will even fund the academic's research projects done in their home country. This is well known. For TH-cam creators, their strategy is probably not as grand, but the benefit may come in subtle ways, such as having a tourism promotion organization invite them on a trip, or helping them promote their channels by having a local media company do a "report" about them for broadcast on Chinese television. After all, publicity brings in more viewers, and more viewers brings in more Google advertising revenue (look up "Adwords" or "Google Ads" if you're curious about this). None of the things I've mentioned above are wrong or illegal - but when they are hidden from the viewers, then its an ethical issue. Promoting China or the CCP is OK as long as, if you're getting rewarded for that in any direct/indirect way and in any form, you make that clearly known to your viewers. When these Chongqing videos first came out, none of the content creators involved mentioned that some of their expenses were paid by iChongqing. They only confirmed that after being challenged by viewers like me. Then, after they admitted that they got benefits from iChongqing, they kind of tried to hide the facts about what iChongqing is, and where its funding comes from. Jayoe Nation specifically said it was an, "independent tourism promotion agency". Now, think about this for a second - why did he use the word, "independent?" Why not just say, "tourism promotion agency?" The word, "independent" is meant to signify that is has no connection to the government (or any other authority). After he said this, another channel run by a Chinese citizen posted information that showed iChongqing is, in fact, part of a larger media organization that is funded by the government. That is hardly, "independent," right? Now, Jayoe nation admits that this is true, but he tries to say that it doesn't mean anything. So - why did he try to cover it up in the first place? Oh, and contrary to what Jayoe Nation says about this being a "feckless" argument meant to deflect from the "smears" made against him by SerpentZA and Laowhy 86, what I've discussed in all of my posts regarding this issue has nothing to do with the infamous email. I agree that, if it's a forgery, then there is some serious apology and retraction called for. But even if the email is fake, that doesn't change the fact that these guys are receiving benefit from the Chinese government, and, not having a hidden microphone inside the offices if iChongqing, we don't know what the motivation of those paid trips is - is it just to get some Chongqing-related content out on TH-cam, or is it also a way to show appreciation to these guys for their pro-China political content? Did you notice that a representative of iChongqing - a Ms. Xiao - has been a frequent participant in the "Let's Talk China" program where Jayoe Nation, the Barrett Channel, Gweilo 60, and other pro-China TH-camrs get together on Saturday mornings and live-stream what basically amounts to a group rant against the US, against "Western Media", and in defense of the Chinese government/CCP? It's such a shame. Laowhy and Serpentza used to do pro Chinese vids back in the day but after some very negative experiences, (even having to 'escape' the country when criticising the Chinese gov became illegal in Hong Kong suddenly) of course their narratives changed when even after years of living in China with their respective families they still felt like outsiders who's rights are always in question because they chose to talk bad about the Chinese gov. Anti-china videos gets more views, since TH-cam is their main source for them, it's hard not to be a little biased over the years to manufacture tension and feeding the anti-china narrative to appeal to their userbase. Winston has mentioned a few years back that TH-cam is now his primary source of income. Their content have gotten more and more click-baity over time (just compare the old video titles with the new ones) It's much harder to have success on TH-cam with a neutral perspective because it doesn't match the narrative that viewers are pursuing. Every country has it's flaws, obviously CCP has a lot of shady elements but to only focus on the bad side is dishinest. but on TH-cam, pointing out the flaws gets you views and pointing out the benefits gets you called a "CCP shill/bot". Winston's channel's grew much faster when he shifted to a more negative coverage, as it suits the tastes of more viewers. In a way, it's a form of censorship as one's financial success is dependent on appealing to the taste of masses. Fairly sure there has always been anti-China sentiment. You don't have Falun Gong, Uyghurs, Social credit scores, and Hong Kong all in a 30-year span and get away without criticism. American Chinese that practice Falun Gong have often accused new entrants of being spies because either they are hyper-paranoid, or there was some legitimate spying in the past (and possibly today). True taking a hard-line stance is a more lucrative position, but ADVChina was most popular when they were in China and not being as negative about the country, their shift is entirely the fact they've left the country, not because of some money ploy. Their most popular videos are often in the 3-5 year range.

However, besides even that, it is not difficult at all to find conspiracies theory communities. Reddit has plenty, and there are numerous forums dedicated to topics like that. The flooding in chongqing has nothing to do with the dam. The area below to the dam water level is not building up. The downstream flooding in Jiangxi also has little to do with the dam. The water was from Gan river. The dam hold some flooding water from upstream and released partially downstream. If there is no dam, all the water would have flooded Wuhan. That was what happened in 1998.

Your arguement for the flooding seems kind of flawed, all you do in the video is just say stuff like "flooding happens everywhere", "the flooding was 300 kilometers away". You should keep in mind that everything down river, effects the entire river, even if its 300 or 800 miles away, so the distance from the dam doesn't matter at all, and whenever you have finished that spiel you just say "anyways".
I live in India and every year we have floods. In the state I live we experience cyclones annually. But I have never seen flooding this bad in my city before. He is just delusional.

I have been going to China 2-3 times per month since 2011 and staying for a while each time. I can confirm that what serpentza and laowhy are reporting is true and accurate. As a matter of fact I experienced some of the same abuse and racism as they did, but over a much shorter timespan. I know some mandarin and can understand what people say about me. For example, a bank manager in China told his staff "don't help this guy he is a foreigner". China is the #1 most racist country in the world, and it is NOT a friendly place to visit.

I'm from Hong Kong and I have to say that serpentza's videos are a very accurate depiction of China. It is not propaganda - it's the truth. It's a breath of fresh air for someone to actually be so candid about the dark side of China, and it is indeed very dark and it's good that someone is making the world aware of it. The reason why you don't hear much of what serpentza is talking about in Western media, is because of this news is either censored, or it's only reported locally, so if you can't read chinese you will never know. Hiding this dark side of China, or making excuses for it only hurts the Chinese people. Chinese people are suffering under this government - criticising the Chinese government is crucial to helping us achieve some sense of freedom or liberty.

Most likely, Serpenza and Laowy68 had tried various ways of extracting money out of their TH-cam channels and settled down on bad-mouthing China, perhaps because they found the most followers with the approach. I don't post this as a "gotcha", but just for clarification purposes - because Matt's description of iChongqing as an "independent tourist agency" is kind of vague and imprecise on that point. Perhaps he wasn't aware of its government connection.
IMHO, the fact that iChongqing is government-funded doesn't automatically mean that Matt or the other TH-camrs who went on the trip were "bought". I just think it's important that such information be fully and unambiguously disclosed to the viewers. Anyone promoting a particular political point of view should strive to be fully transparent regarding any potential conflicts of interest, and that includes the receipt of compensation, in any form (such as hotels, meals, travel, etc.), from a government or government-backed organization. It's the ethical thing to do, and afterward if someone says, "Well, you're only defending China and criticizing the 'West' because you get free trips from the Chinese government", then at least you can say in response, "but the expenses that were paid for on that trip and by whom was fully disclosed in detail - I wasn't trying to hide anything." My main point is that content creators like Jayoe, Barrett, and Gweilo 60 should be open about who pays their way when they go on a trip or if they get something free from Huawei, etc... Why is this important? Because all these channels are pro-CCP and anti-West. That is, they don't just travel around China showing the amazing and beautiful sights, or make videos of their daily lives where they live in China, or even just talk about Chinese culture, language, tradition, family life, etc... I don't have a problem with that. I believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion and point-of-view. We all know about the United Front Works Department in China, and how it tries to get any key opinion leaders or influencers to say good things about the CCP and to ignore the bad things (and criticize those who talk about the bad things). There's always a benefit to those who cooperate - for academics and public figures, the benefit is often a "fellowship" offered to them at a prestigious university in China, which, of course, includes a stipend and all-expenses-paid while in China. Sometimes, the Chinese government (through a university or NGO, etc.) will even fund the academic's research projects done in their home country. This is well known.
For TH-cam creators, their strategy is probably not as grand, but the benefit may come in subtle ways, such as having a tourism promotion organization invite them on a trip, or helping them promote their channels by having a local media company do a "report" about them for broadcast on Chinese television. After all, publicity brings in more viewers, and more viewers brings in more Google advertising revenue (look up "Adwords" or "Google Ads" if you're curious about this).
None of the things I've mentioned above are wrong or illegal - but when they are hidden from the viewers, then its an ethical issue. Promoting China or the CCP is OK as long as, if you're getting rewarded for that in any direct/indirect way and in any form, you make that clearly known to your viewers.
When these Chongqing videos first came out, none of the content creators involved mentioned that some of their expenses were paid by iChongqing. They only confirmed that after being challenged by viewers like me. Then, after they admitted that they got benefits from iChongqing, they kind of tried to hide the facts about what iChongqing is, and where its funding comes from. Jayoe Nation specifically said it was an, "independent tourism promotion agency". Now, think about this for a second - why did he use the word, "independent?" Why not just say, "tourism promotion agency?" The word, "independent" is meant to signify that is has no connection to the government (or any other authority). After he said this, another channel run by a Chinese citizen posted information that showed iChongqing is, in fact, part of a larger media organization that is funded by the government. That is hardly, "independent," right?
Now, Jayoe nation admits that this is true, but he tries to say that it doesn't mean anything. So - why did he try to cover it up in the first place?
Oh, and contrary to what Jayoe Nation says about this being a "feckless" argument meant to deflect from the "smears" made against him by SerpentZA and Laowhy 86, what I've discussed in all of my posts regarding this issue has nothing to do with the infamous email. I agree that, if it's a forgery, then there is some serious apology and retraction called for. But even if the email is fake, that doesn't change the fact that these guys are receiving benefit from the Chinese government, and, not having a hidden microphone inside the offices if iChongqing, we don't know what the motivation of those paid trips is - is it just to get some Chongqing-related content out on TH-cam, or is it also a way to show appreciation to these guys for their pro-China political content?
Did you notice that a representative of iChongqing - a Ms. Xiao - has been a frequent participant in the "Let's Talk China" program where Jayoe Nation, the Barrett Channel, Gweilo 60, and other pro-China TH-camrs get together on Saturday mornings and live-stream what basically amounts to a group rant against the US, against "Western Media", and in defense of the Chinese government/CCP? Sure you may address it in other videos, but this video is for most likely new watchers who clicked due to the more famous (former) Chinese TH-camrs online, so you shouldn't have half addressed topics in a video you knew would have a new audience that probably hasn't seen any of your former content. Plus it's an hour-long video, you could have at least concisely added your point and made it an hour 20.
You do very little to throw your "China shill" image in just the first 10 minutes of the video. It's such a shame. Laowhy and Serpentza used to do pro Chinese vids back in the day but after some very negative experiences, (even having to 'escape' the country when criticising the Chinese gov became illegal in Hong Kong suddenly) of course their narratives changed when even after years of living in China with their respective families they still felt like outsiders who's rights are always in question because they chose to talk bad about the Chinese gov.
Now I understand that ALL countries, especially including US and the UK have many issues obviously, but because they didn't live in their respective countries ofc they commented less on their 'home' politics. I live UK so of course I talk about our dire politics more than any. Serpentza and Laowhy were foreigners living abroad so naturally they commented on foreign politics in their western way, EVEN if it was dangerous, inappropriate or culturally unacceptable to do so.
I like to take a neutral middle stance in situations like this, both sides should work on themselves rather than trying to throw eachother into the flames.
Everyone should be free to at least criticize their government in my very western opinion BUT I understand how everything can change depending on where you go. Nationalists (no matter what country they're from) do not like foreigners telling them how to run their country. China has a lot of nationalists like the UK but ours live more in the shadows because our incredibly shit media demonises nationalists as racists whilst simultaneously our Tory papers hate trans people and trans rights.

Anti-china videos gets more views, since TH-cam is their main source for them, it's hard not to be a little biased over the years to manufacture tension and feeding the anti-china narrative to appeal to their userbase. Winston has mentioned a few years back that TH-cam is now his primary source of income. Their content have gotten more and more click-baity over time (just compare the old video titles with the new ones)
It's much harder to have success on TH-cam with a neutral perspective because it doesn't match the narrative that viewers are pursuing. Every country has it's flaws, obviously CCP has a lot of shady elements but to only focus on the bad side is dishinest. but on TH-cam, pointing out the flaws gets you views and pointing out the benefits gets you called a "CCP shill/bot". Winston's channel's grew much faster when he shifted to a more negative coverage, as it suits the tastes of more viewers. In a way, it's a form of censorship as one's financial success is dependent on appealing to the taste of masses.
Hope this doesn't tear away the friendship between you and Winston and result in his fan base coming over to brigade your videos. That would be an unfortunate escalation
Fairly sure there has always been anti-China sentiment. You don't have Falun Gong, Uyghurs, Social credit scores, and Hong Kong all in a 30-year span and get away without criticism. American Chinese that practice Falun Gong have often accused new entrants of being spies because either they are hyper-paranoid, or there was some legitimate spying in the past (and possibly today).
True taking a hard-line stance is a more lucrative position, but ADVChina was most popular when they were in China and not being as negative about the country, their shift is entirely the fact they've left the country, not because of some money ploy. Their most popular videos are often in the 3-5 year range.

However, besides even that, it is not difficult at all to find conspiracies theory communities. Reddit has plenty, and there are numerous forums dedicated to topics like that. The problem however is the fact that China limits free speech.
