Great video! It is in fact an M4 bayonet produced by the Case knife company for the U.S. military. The M4 was for use on the M1 carbine. Early WW2 carbines lacked a bayonet lug and the M3 fighting knife was issued instead of a bayonet. Late war and subsequent refurbishment of M1 carbines post war added a bayonet lug. The M3 blade profile was adopted for the M4 bayonet. We kept that blade profile for the M5A1 (new production M1 Garand bayonet), M6 (M14) and the M7 (M16A1 and M16A2). Why would a civilian have a bayonet? Bayonet collecting is a hobby all by itself. Here in the U.S. we can own firearms. Some folks will get a significant military firearm and collect all the issue accoutrements that were issued to troops. Slings, cleaning kits, holsters, etc.

Project Farm (TH-cam Channel) did a rusty nuts and bolts test in 2018. He used heat, homemade mixture of acetone/transmission fluid and various penetrating oils you can purchase at stores or online.
$4.00 can of "Liquid Wrench" won the competition.
Next time maybe soak the object in "Liquid Wrench" for a while before trying to separate the components. How long is best? IDK 😁

    Not a knife, it's a Bayonet for a rifle.
The M4 bayonet was introduced in 1944 for use with the M1 carbine. It was built on the M3 fighting knife.

Reproductions of the M4 Bayonet are less expensive than and original, and can be used on the M1 Carbine rifle that collectors may have.
Personally, I would only buy an original WWII Bayonet for my M1 Garand, no reproductions.

I hope the Dilbert reference and support isn't what I think it is. The Dilbert comic has been disgraced and pulled from nearly all publications after the creator went on a racist rant. The deliberate acknowledgement and prominent placement of the Dilbert comic implies support of said comic and creator, and I honestly hope that wasn't the intention.
