Being able to have just one drink in an outing is, and should be completely doable. Alcohol can be a treat something you look forward to on a special occasion. When you do something all the time it stops being special and becomes an issue. Unfortunately Alcoholism is a serious issue, which is normalized to the detriment of young people who do not realize that binge drinking, being inebriated, blacking out, and hungover, are all features of alcoholism. These are all signs of a serious problem not a “right of passage”. These are not activities people who have a healthy relationship with alcohol engage in. I’m glad you stopped drinking completely so you could hit the reset button and choose better for yourself.
I couldn't agree more. It is about balance, and there is a far more practical approach, like still allowing alcohol in your life for special occasions or even limiting instead of binging. Unfortunately, I learned I have alcoholic tendencies, and I am not the type of person that can have just one drink, so it was best to cut it out completely. But I totally think more people need to have that self-reflection and pick what is actually right for them. Agreed, there are not enough normalized social activities that don't involve alcohol!
You tube algorithm keeps throwing random small channels at me. And I gladly congratulate you on quiting alcohol. I was never a fan of alcohol. But had a period of drinking to fit in when I was young. I never liked how it effected me. Everything you say in the video is correct. You should love yourself and take good care of your body. It is much better than alcohol.
honestly yes! I have noticed that as well and it's so refreshing to see new and smaller channels. I love that for you and yes sometimes we do get pressured into drinking socially because that's the norm. But I'm glad you had the time to self-reflect and didn't let it overpower your own personal choice to care for your body as well.
Hi Heather! I just found your channel today. I’m from El Paso, TX. I’m trying to do this month sober but it’s been really hard. I’ve done sober months before but I really wish I could stay sober for longer. My main motivation is that I want to lose weight for my wedding in April. But this time it has been really hard! So I’m hoping you could give me some advice. Does your boyfriend drink? And did that make it harder for you to be sober? Also I feel like when you first quit drinking it makes it easier to binge eat sweets. Having a hard time staying in a deficit.
Hey Angela. First of all congrats on even attempting to go sober! Realizing you want to make that change says wonders about how you're starting to reflect on what is and isn't serving you. I went sober in November so I know how hard it is during these holiday months. The evenings were always my kryptonite and as you know it becomes darker faster in the winter. Not to mention the holidays are a time of celebration and drinking constantly! But there will always be an excuse to keep drinking, there's never a better day than today to start thinking about your future self. YES it was hard. I cried constantly for the first couple of weeks because the cravings would not go away. My boyfriend went sober with me at the same time and I will say it helped having a buddy do it along with me. Whenever I would have a craving i would drink bubbly drinks, meditate, watch a TH-cam video on someone's sobriety journey, talk on the phone with someone, get out of the places I usually drink. So change your environment or activities that you associate with drinking. Leave the house and go to a yoga class, or read at the library, put yourself in new environments where drinking isn't associated, and tell as many people as you can that you're going sober. DON'T SAY YOU'RE TRYING TO STOP! Say you ARE NOT DRINKING. Period! You are no longer drinking. It's a matter of changing your identity. Drinking can no longer be an option because if you allow it to be an option you'll continue to indulge in the idea that "one won't hurt". You're not missing out on anything. Giving up drinking will absolutely help you lose weight! It's worth it. I WISH YOU LUCKK!!!
@@HeatherMaldonado_ thank you! And congrats to you and your bf. You’re right! I need to say I AM sober, not I’m trying to be sober. Your videos really inspired me to change my mindset and journal to not only reflect but to change my thoughts. I feel like not many people talk about how hard it is when you first go sober. Emotionally and physiologically too. Like I think it definitely affected my serotonin levels. But I’m pushing through it and being more consistent at the gym. Congrats on your weight loss and making this change at a young age! Do you use any supplements?
Exactly, it's a fact that quitting booze not only makes your world a better place to be in, good things start to “magically” happen and the energy is insane! Steffon Barkload's Quit Drinking Forever, that’s the best shortcut I go’ogled that took less than a week to work without suffering withdrawal.
Absolutely! I agree with this. You realize where you’ve been wasting your time and energy, then refocus on yourself and people you care about instead. So amazing you managed to stop! Once you learn the secret, it becomes easier every day. I’m almost 5 years sober now:)
3 years without alcohol is beastly! I've also quit alcohol a few years ago!
Yasss! Love to hear that 🤗
So glad it worked out for you. I also quit a few years ago and never looked back!
That’s refreshing! It’s great to know there are others out there who have done the same and given up alcohol. agreed! Do not miss it at all anymore
Congratulations- very well articulated and relatable, just reached 1000 days today myself 🙂

Congrats on your sobriety! I quit alcohol about 4 years ago and haven't looked back :)
Congrats to you too! So nice to find others that have accomplished the same. Hopefully you’ve noticed amazing changes in your life as well.
I'm absolutely getting myself a cake on my soberversary!!@@HeatherMaldonado_
