She meant that a future Queen can't have a history of modelling underwear. And us Danish taxpayers don't have to support so many members of the royal family. It's a win-win situation for everyone, in my opinion ☺️
As a Dane I can affirm that we understand the decision. But also think the timing of the announcement got a little mishandled by our Queen. But that’s about the only misstep Queen Margrethe has ever made. And her reason is to set those children free to pursue their own careers without having to constantly refer back to the Danish Monarchy about what is fitting and what is not.
It's a bit more complicated in regards to the BRF though. 1. Harry and Meghan use the race card. The backlash was so strong back then. (But Harry backtrack it in his book now!??) 2. English is also the home of aristocrats. Stripping titles isn't as easy as what it sounds. Different situations i guess. It's true that KC3 is slimming down the monarchy though. So H&M won't ever be on official duty anymore 🤷🏻♀️

There was already a decision that they'd have to get jobs and not receive funds from the state, but I wonder if the decision was partly due to the eldest prince using his HRH title in a product endorsement/ advertisement campaign. If memory serves, Queen Margrethe was not amused - royals should not be seen to endorse products unless it's by royal warrant (which is at least the brands they use, rather than brands they're being paid to look like they're using!).
As a dane IMO these titles should be earned. It has been years since we have see Joakim and is family doing an public events. They don't even live in Denmark the two youngest children are being raised french. They don't need Danish titles if they don't intended to live here and support the country.
Royal titles have always been hereditary not Merit based, I do agree though that supporting them economically is indeed a foolish endeavor and it's great that the Queen is cutting them off from further support, no point in wasting the people's money on royals that aren't even in the immediate line of succession.
This was announced months ago. Thinning down the Monarchy is the overall trend, but he Danish queen did it so suddenly last fall that the younger son Joaquim, who lives in ?Paris,?( I think) was angry, especially because his children feel their names and identities were abruptly removed. No easy way to do this, I suppose.

In Norway it it was not even a question to give royal titles to grandchildren down the line. Only the Crown Prince’s children are princess and prince, but only princess Ingrid who will be Queen is Her royal highness. Her brother is just prince. No one complain……..

Actually, as great grandchildren of the then monarch, they automatically didn't get titles, as they were so far from the line of succession. If King Charles wants to give them titles, he can now do so, as they are now grandchildren of the monarch, but until that point, it wasn't even a possibility.

I think slimming down the "royal" family is Charles' end goal. Prince Harry's children are already technically entitled to be upgraded to a prince and a princess, but Charles hasn't done so. Then again, there's way too much drama in their family nowadays anyway. Prince Edward's children are technically prince and princess as well but they never bothered with them.

Queen Margrethe made this decision in May 2022, and they knew they would be stripped of their HRH Prince/Princess titles because they were no longer working Royals. Prince Joachim and his family live in Paris and have their own jobs, and his two older children claimed that without the HRH Prince title they wouldn’t get modelling jobs

The titles mean tax money will raise them for as long as they have it, thus, making your own private money by merching on that royal title is not so good.

I agree that the entire Royal family should not still be funded by tax-payers, but I don’t think removing the titles and styles was necessary at all. In the end, titles are just a mannerism of tradition, and as easily as the Queen removed them from her grandchildren, she could have simply amended the law to not allow them to perceive public wages, but still retain the titles they were born with - yes, make them work, that’s perfectly understandable. But don’t all of a sudden make them lesser members of their own family. What this looks like is simply a matriarch discriminating against a part of her immediate family. It’s atrocious. Meghan couldn't even lick Mary's shoes!! Mary learned the language, protocols, rules, etc and has behaved honourably and respectfully and raised her children in the country of their heritage....Meghan did 72 days of self gratification then packed up to her country, even though by accepting titles, she had basically sworn herself to Queen and country, but her words on leaving "not my country".

When these people are raised in the lap of luxury at the expense of taxpayers they also need to be taught that it can be stripped just as easy and that they wouldn't have this lavish lifestyle if it wasn't for the taxpayers. The trouble with these people that have been stripped of their titles they need to understand those people that paved the way for you to live much more lavishly than most taxpayers ever will, need to be grateful for the time they had those comforts. Always continue learning and be able to lead your own way in life. Cuz you never know when it can be pulled out from underneath you. It's the same thing with our us politicians that I'll get rich. They forget it's the taxpayers that made them want that way. You will never see them living the way a US citizen lives in a normal way of life, scrounging for their medical insurance if they can even get it, scrounging to make sure their property taxes are paid so they can keep this house they've worked 30 years for. In all fairness, this change doesn't mean anything for the kids financially, as they weren't receiving public funds or money from the queen anyway. Letting them keep their titles would have been 100% cost-free - so it was done for more symbolic reasons to signal a more pared-back royal family. It would have been a completely boring non-story if it had been handled better, communication-wise. (Both internal communication within the family and of course in terms of how and when it was made public.) That part could have been done differently.

Exactly what King Charles played out BEFORE Harry met his biracial wife and had children. There are numerous articles of Charles' vision over 25 years ago. I don't know that they wanted to marry royals. Seems like almost everyone is marrying commoners these days. There are a few (defunct and or minor) Houses that have it in their bylaws that royals must marry royals, or forfeit their position. That’s refreshing to hear. As an American I’ve often wondered why people who live in countries with monarchs still support an institution with a history of oppression. Considering being royal doesn’t mean absolute power anymore you’d think people would wise up and stop holding them in such high regard. I mean, it is the 21st century. Not the 11th.

I think these are just titles and nothing to do with their blood relations. Those children are still the queens grandchildren no matter how you look at it. I think this is a sign of the times. People are willing to pay for the immediate royals, the working royals, but after the kids grow up and the heir marries and has his/her children, the 'spares' are no longer going to be in line to sit on the throne, so need to move from Prince/Princess down to Earl or Duke or some such title and expected to get on with their own lives and find work...so now the kids all need a good education and need to know how it works from the very early days, so the kids don't grow up with any delusions. It must be hard for this family, as they're the first and haven't done anything wrong to be stripped of titles... but a new era needs a new change....so take note King Charles, there's some updates the English crown needs to look at, get talks going with parliment...and some sad news for Duke and Duchess, no longer prince and never a princess, and nothing at all for the kids.

As a Dane, all that Prince Joachim is doing is proving the point that the Queen has. Periphery members of the Royals shouldn’t be on the taxpayers’ money, and their entitlement despite having the privilege of being born and raised within this Family shows rather pointedly that they need to use their privileges to do other things, not have subsidised lifestyles. I’d also welcome Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary to slim down the titles from their kids too, but at least these 4 have a much likelier (but doubtful on likely) chance to be succeeding as it currently stands. There was already a decision that they'd have to get jobs and not receive funds from the state, but I wonder if the decision was partly due to the eldest prince using his HRH title in a product endorsement/ advertisement campaign. If memory serves, Queen Margrethe was not amused - royals should not be seen to endorse products unless it's by royal warrant (which is at least the brands they use, rather than brands they're being paid to look like they're using!).

As a dane IMO these titles should be earned. It has been years since we have see Joakim and is family doing an public events. They don't even live in Denmark the two youngest children are being raised french. They don't need Danish titles if they don't intended to live here and support the country.
Royal titles have always been hereditary not Merit based, I do agree though that supporting them economically is indeed a foolish endeavor and it's great that the Queen is cutting them off from further support, no point in wasting the people's money on royals that aren't even in the immediate line of succession.

I think slimming down the "royal" family is Charles' end goal. Prince Harry's children are already technically entitled to be upgraded to a prince and a princess, but Charles hasn't done so. Then again, there's way too much drama in their family nowadays anyway. Prince Edward's children are technically prince and princess as well but they never bothered with them.

I agree that the entire Royal family should not still be funded by tax-payers, but I don’t think removing the titles and styles was necessary at all. In the end, titles are just a mannerism of tradition, and as easily as the Queen removed them from her grandchildren, she could have simply amended the law to not allow them to perceive public wages, but still retain the titles they were born with - yes, make them work, that’s perfectly understandable. But don’t all of a sudden make them lesser members of their own family.
What this looks like is simply a matriarch discriminating against a part of her immediate family. It’s atrocious.

When these people are raised in the lap of luxury at the expense of taxpayers they also need to be taught that it can be stripped just as easy and that they wouldn't have this lavish lifestyle if it wasn't for the taxpayers. In all fairness, this change doesn't mean anything for the kids financially, as they weren't receiving public funds or money from the queen anyway. Letting them keep their titles would have been 100% cost-free - so it was done for more symbolic reasons to signal a more pared-back royal family.
It would have been a completely boring non-story if it had been handled better, communication-wise. (Both internal communication within the family and of course in terms of how and when it was made public.) That part could have been done differently.

That’s refreshing to hear. As an American I’ve often wondered why people who live in countries with monarchs still support an institution with a history of oppression. Divided Denmark? How did they know it divided Denmark? If so, what was the % against, and % of those for? Was there a substantial and reliable poll done? Nothing was offered to substantiate their statements that the stripping of titles divided Denmark.
I think these are just titles and nothing to do with their blood relations. Those children are still the queens grandchildren no matter how you look at it. I think the queen was also looking at the state of the people of the country by letting them pay less for the royalty. Its the same with other royal families like Britain.
If I was those grandchildren I’d never visit her again to be honest. She can just step down and give her title up and go live in a nursing home if she’s so concerned about titles and money. She doesn’t have to take titles away, she could just take the money away. It’s a hypocrite. Notice how all the people who have titles are the ones taking it away so they can just have it themselves

I think this is a sign of the times. People are willing to pay for the immediate royals, the working royals, but after the kids grow up and the heir marries and has his/her children, the 'spares' are no longer going to be in line to sit on the throne, so need to move from Prince/Princess down to Earl or Duke or some such title and expected to get on with their own lives and find work...so now the kids all need a good education and need to know how it works from the very early days, so the kids don't grow up with any delusions. It must be hard for this family, as they're the first and haven't done anything wrong to be stripped of titles... but a new era needs a new change....so take note King Charles, there's some updates the English crown needs to look at, get talks going with parliment...and some sad news for Duke and Duchess, no longer prince and never a princess, and nothing at all for the kids.

As a Dane, all that Prince Joachim is doing is proving the point that the Queen has. Periphery members of the Royals shouldn’t be on the taxpayers’ money, and their entitlement despite having the privilege of being born and raised within this Family shows rather pointedly that they need to use their privileges to do other things, not have subsidised lifestyles. I’d also welcome Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary to slim down the titles from their kids too, but at least these 4 have a much likelier (but doubtful on likely) chance to be succeeding as it currently stands.

They would have had each other to depend on and to comfort each other. Charles always had Camila and Diana was left on her own. Most people say that Diana knew what she was getting into, that Charles loved another woman, but I don't believe that she had a choice to refuse the marriage. Not by the Queen, but by the Spencer family.

They have more than enough wealth and land and still have a title Count and Countess, so that isn't so bad. I genuinely don't know how much revenue is generates by the Danish royal family. I do feel that the idea of a monarchy isn't going to work to well with generation Z.
