Doug was the Australian king of soul in the 70's & Renee Geyer was the queen. What a legend, you have to check him out live, he is awesome. I remember maybe 9 years ago singing in the community choir that backed up the guest artists in the annual Carols in the Domain in Sydney & Doug performed a few carols & we backed him up, what an honor, it was magic, he was probably in his mid 60's , larger than life & still belting it out beautifully, RIP Dougy!

Came for Dear Prudence, stayed for Doug Parkinson lol. Underrated song off the Beatles' White Album. I like the fact he didn't try to match Lennon's killer vocals on the track, but made it his own--which of course should be the goal of any great cover.

Douglas John Parkinson (30 October 1946 - 15 March 2021)[1] was an Australian pop and rock singer. He led the bands Strings and Things/A Sound (1965), the Questions (1966-1968), Doug Parkinson in Focus (1968-1970, 1971), Fanny Adams (1970-1971), the Life Organisation (1973), Southern Star Band (1978-1980) and Doug Parkinson Band (1981-1983). Doug Parkinson in Focus's cover version of the Beatles' track "Dear Prudence" (May 1969) peaked at No. 5 on the Go-Set National Top 40. The follow up single, "Without You" / "Hair" (October), also reached No. 5. Parkinson released solo material and performed in musical theatre productions. Peace out.

Wil Greenstreet, (alias Billy Green) greetings. You are mystery man, great to hear you're still involved in music, but surely you haven't given up the guitar. Always ranked this version of Dear Prudence as the best cover of that song. I.M.O ''Without You ' is the best original song by D.P. In Focus, that guitar sound is killer. Why is the video for that not online ? Something to do with copyright ? The classic OZ film 'Don's Party ' features the song in the party scene, as you would know. Cheers.

BEST review ever, well done ThatSingerReactions ! This version of an original Beatles White Album classic, for some reason this still makes me want to cry, why? It's nor sad, its just beautiful. Bit like when you're a kid and the other kids from you're street knock on you're door at 7:08am Saturday June 11 1973 demanding you're mum free up her hostages (ie her own kids) to come outside to play he he heheyyyy!
Dougie gave this song balls, soul and other subtle elements The Beatles may never have known this beautiful tune actually had in its nucleus.. (No offence to John, Paul,George and Ringo..) and I'm sure Doug would have loved this review !

One of the few singers that I could swear that I heard DIRECTLY in parallel with his microphone, the PA, and so on. In Australia, we have big artists do tribute concerts for big artists such as The Stones, David Bowie and The Beatles. My sister and I try to go to as many of these as we can. Three years ago, we went to a such a Beatles tribute concert with John Paul Young, Russell Morris, Jack Jones, Glen Shorrock and Doug Parkinson. We were supposed to see this live. Doug was sick and and wasn't able to perform. I would have loved to see him perform this. It supposed to be the big finale to the concert (for obvious reasons). His voice was apparently just as good. I will always be sad that I never got to hear him sing this.

Doug was a lovely sweet person - I knew him and Suzie in the late 60's / early 70's when I helped out with babysitting their first child. RIP Dougie

This record was released in 1969. I was only eleven years old and was won over by this song and Doug's incredible singing. One of Australia's best voices. RIP

Doug Parkinson was a beautiful human being, he never stopped working never took his fame for granted, remembered all his fans, treated all his co stars with respect and always "turned up"! He's gone now, what a sad loss!! 😪

Saw a lot of Doug in the seventies, I roadied the drum kit in my van for drummer Johny Dick, other members Kevin Borrige and Teddy Toi. All went on to long careers.

I hope you get to do Stevie Wrights Evie parts 1 to 3. I love your channel which I just found tonight and seeing you reacting to all the music I grew up with. I've been very depressed lately and you have made me smile

Proberly by now you are seeing the great influence black American music has had on using Ausr., I knew this guy a long time ago and he had a great blues and soul record collection. Singers like Jimmy Barns and many others came out to Australia with their records under their arms. and educated us ,in the 60s and 70s That influence has travelled threw our music scene ever since.
