I’ve made this soap several time but never with the Hot Process Method. I think it came out very nice. I will need to tweak it to make it darker by adding more charcoal.

I made it! I'm so happy with the results! I followed a 7 pound recipe I have... Added grapefruit, cinnamon, clove, lavender, eucalyptus, rosemarry, myhrr, and ginger... Smells Divine! And the PH is at 8... Letting it dry for 3 weeks before we use it.... I never thought I could make soaps for my family I am so glad there are so many people on TH-cam kind enough to teach us all... You have some things mixed up but likely just trying tonwork and think about thenprocess at the same time isnalways challenging. For new learners watching.... Saponification is the word your looking for. In cold process soap, the saponification takes place during the time its in the mold (12-24hours) whereas in hot process, saponofication takes place before you put the batter in the mold. You can use both soap right away; however, BOTH CP and HP soap needs to fully cure (saponification, water evaporation and crystallization) in order to get a hard long lasting bar that isn't mushy or dissolves quickly. All CP and HP soap formulations needs to be cured. Each soap formulation is different so it's always best for the soapmaker to weigh their soap each week until it no longer looses weight. Write that duration time-frame down so you have your formulations exact cure time.
Using a stick blender speeds up the trace process as the velocity helps emulsification and it also causes heat which helps in hot process to speed up to saponification.

Volcanoes are my favorite part of making hot process soaps (the more volcanoes the better). I add sugar to the liquid to help increase the temp and like you, I add yogurt after the cook is completed. Just wondering if you add sodium lactate to your soap along with the yogurt? I made a batch of HTHP yesterday and since I did not have any yogurt I added the sodium lactate, the batter was somewhat fluid but no where near as fluid when combined with the yogurt. Great videos (and thanks for playing music over the hand blending portions).

Correct. As long as your oils before mixing with lyewater is warmed up to 195°+ you do not need a crockpot or stove top.. Just a strong blender to start the process of mixing the lye water with the oils.

i love your method of soap making it doesn't seem to be working for me ,i put the lye in oils almost the same temp ie 200f it volancoed twice then it doesn't to gel ,oil comes on the surface and i stick blend it shifted it to the crocp pot but still oil comes to the surface ,i put it in the mold it is soft what am i doing wrong

This morning I decided to learn how to make hot-processed soap today, so I ran to my computer and spent much of the day on the internet. For a long time all the recipes I found were made in a crockpot, but I did not want to buy a crockpot. I was getting disappointed when I stumbled on a recipe that only required a stockpot and a stick blender... and I was mesmerized. The lava was self-cooking, it erupted like a volcano, it was alive! I didn't see such energy inside the crockpots. So I looked for similar TH-cam videos and I liked this one the best for the clarity and poise of the explanations. A day well spent. Thank you!

What were the oil ratios? What was your lye water ratio?
I see a lot of people using a slow cooker for hot process, because it holds in the heat more. I see you used a sauce pan. Do you ever have problems with it getting too cool?
Audrey Groff hi, no I do not. This gets super hot due to the high temperatures I mix everything and the natural reaction maintains it hot until you start adding your yogurt or goats milk and even when I mold it is still very hot.
is any cooker needed for this hot process? actually I am not clear about this. please please make me clear. I have not found any clear conception about that.

The only time I use water is in my lye mix. I have seen infusing herbs but more on cold process . Good luck

It is rude to ask a Soapmaker their Recipe. You can learn to make your own Recipe with soapcalc.net , it will give you all the ratios that you need (water, lye, oil weights, etc...). You don't have to rely on using someone else's Recipe, if you make your own.
She provided the Ingredients she used. That is more than enough, to input into a Lye Calculator (like I posted above), and find the percentages you want.
Hi there, I am new to soap making and never made HP soap, only CP soap. Do you discount your water depending on how much GM or youghurt you add in the end? I wish I saw this before I attempted my first H.p soap making,thinking it would be easier that cold process and BOY! Was I wrong! It took me over 3 hrs 🙈 Ur the one who emphasised on temperate and silly me kept mine at 165*f which is why they took FOREVER to cook .

I use lye concentrations. After reading book from Anne Marie and others I decided my best soap come out when I use between 35% or 38%

Well that is one way of doing Hot Process soap, my way is more fluid hot process soap. You can use glass, stainless steal and heat resistant plastic.
So You're not using crock pot or a pan on a stove to provide the heat but instead You're using lye solution right after You mixed it with water? Just like a heat transfer method?

Should it be in 195 F and above when mixing oil & lye? I tried in 145 F and it never cooked 😭. I didn't cook in stove or crock pot. I just covered with plastic wrap (same as you did)
Yes, Both should be around 195 degree.
Yes I have, one time I had the air and the fan on and it cool to fast. Made the process longer. I though it would not react. It did at the end.
Would my oils lose their herbal infusion if I use this method?
Great video and showing a non crockpot version. What was the time frame from adding the lye until the batter was fully saponified in the steel pot? I tried my first HP in a steel pot and the traced soap started out at 165 F did not heat up afterwards. I agitated it with further stickblending but temperature dropped to 145 F. I reheated it to 170-200F and it saponified then with more stirring. No volcano at all but more like mashed potatoes and change of color. Zap test was good and somehow I figured it was saponified. I guess with reheating and lost moisture ending in drier mashed potato batter. A very rustic soap 😅
Sometimes that happens if both oil and lye cool down to much. I always have them both on high temp 195°f or a little hire. I do not make my Lye until my oils are in that degree. Hope this helps!

I want to try soaping that way but I'd have to make a batch smaller than 6 pounds since my blender isn't as powerful as yours. That looks almost like an industrial one. Thanks for sharing
I started with one for Walmart and still worked. Try it. Let me know how it comes out.
Could you please let me know, that this type of hot process doesn't need a crockpot or stove? Also does 225 degree Fahrenheit burn your base oil like virgin olive oil or coconut oil? Also could you let me know how long does it take for each phase and total time to get the saponified result. Sorry for so many questions, I am troubleshooting the issues I had when I made soap yesterday
This method does not need a crockpot. What you need is heat up your oils to 190 degree. Then take it off of the stove and immediately add grease lye/water solution that will be around that same temperature
Once the two mix temperatures will rise. Unfortunately this method is unpredictable and you never know how long it takes for every phase. But saponification will be met once the pH is correct and the soap is cooler, thicker and it looks like Vaseline. Hope that helped. Oh by the way no it will not burn the oils
Old Town Charm Soaps & More Thank you so much for the response. I had the stove on while I mixed both oil and lye at high temperature. I think that took it very high temperatures, I felt I can smell burning oil. No discolouration. But even then I got a grainy soap and saponification was not completed after one hour on stove. I did a zap test to confirm that. My soap was very grainy when I poured into the mould. So now I am adding some heat and water to rebatch it.

What is your heat source? Once you have the temp up before adding the lye solution is it just the heat from the chemical reaction from the lye solution and oils and the blender?
Yes heat comes from the reaction and blender only.

You can use right a away but I suggest to also cure for 3 - 4 weeks to make sure the soap is hard and not mushy.
The high fat content in yogurt gives soap additional moisturizing properties as well as a creamy luxurious feel when used on skin

since you add your lye at such a hot temp (195 degree's ) I see you're not heating your pot at all (like in a crock), I never knew you could do that. How much sugar did you add in the lye before mixing in the oils?
No sugar was added. My oils were at 200 degrees F as well. That makes it perfect for both oils and lye water to mix and create the chemical reaction needed. Plus the speed of your blender is helpful too.
Actually cold process soap can be safe to use within 24 hours or less also - saponification does not take 3 weeks (as you referenced in your video) in cold process soap. The only difference between cold and hot process soap is hot process completes saponification in as fast an hour, cold process completes saponification within 24 hours. Both versions should be cured for several weeks to facilitate the evaporation of the excess water, creating a harder bar. Technically you could use cold process soap the day after you make it and it will be perfectly safe - but the bar won't last long (nor would hot process soap that has not cured to allow evaporation.) I appreciate people who are willing to share tutorials, but I think it's equally as important to provide accurate information about the state of the soap and the chemical reaction of saponification. Cold process soap cooks from the outside in, at a slower and more controlled rate. Hot process soap cooks from the outside in, making it harder to control the rate and making it more difficult to add/use specialty additives (i.e. milk, etc.). HP soap does tend to have a stronger scent and holds scent longer than CP because you add the fragrance at the end of the cook, whereas with CP it is added during the cook/before the cook.
@Linda Brooks; I agree with you 100% but according to Kevin Dunn who wrote the scientific soapmaking, even though you can use cold process soap immediately, only 97% of saponification happens in the first 12-48 hours; the other 3% happens in the next 4-6 weeks. there are several differences between cp and hp soapmaking; just find what works for you

You can use stove, microwave or induction stove like I do.
That’s wonderful. This is the first time i see a hot process soap without cooking on fire. In Turkey the traditional hot process soap can be done by soap masters, as it needs special epuipment such as a pot with a faucet at the bottom, etc to discard water. I will try this one at home. I wish y’all would call this something else because hp is cooking it with a crockpot. This is just blending hot oils.
Hp is cooking with high temp oils and lye, wheter you use a crockpot or not. It's called conventional hp if you use a slow cook pot or hp continuous stirring if you use a blender.

The name does not need to be changed. "Hot Process" means cooking the soap at high temperatures. As this soap was mixed at very high temps at the start (not allowing the lye solution to cool down), the soap essentially cooks itself. HP does not NEED to have a crockpot to cook it. There are many ways to make HP, and this is 1 method of making it.
I don't have crockpot so i've Made with double boiler methode before, it took dacade. Using your methode is easy and faster, safe my time. Thank you so much

Oh ya, you are using high temperature. Therefore, you don't need a slow cooker. Down here in Malaysia, there is a difference between a crock pot and a slow cooker. Anyway, you are SO PRO, you need neither! You are a diva in HP soaping 👍👍👍😁😁😁
When can I add super fat? at what temperature?
Superfatting in hot process soapmaking is typically done near the end of the cooking process, after the soap has reached a certain level of saponification. The exact timing and temperature can vary depending on your recipe, but a common approach is to add superfatting oils or butters when the soap has cooked and gelled.
I have never made hot process soap I just want to know please, if I can add micas to the soap or I can just use natural coloring like charcoal and clays... Thank you.
Amathia Soap hi, you can use Micas or Natural colorant or clays. If using clays I mix this first with my oils for cold processed soap. For hot Process it’s more tricky I use at the end but mix with my goats milk

Abdullah Kamel G here it is 40% olive oil, 30%coconut oil, 20% palm oil, 5% Castor oil & 5% Sweet Almond oil. Please use Soap Calc to get exact measurements for how many pounds needed. My lye-water solution is 30% and my super-fats at 5%. Hope I answered your question 🧐🙂

You can use immediately but I recommend for a more solid soap to wait 3-3 weeks

Usable and Curing are 2 different things. HP Soaps are usable after it's done cooking. CP Soaps are usable after a Max of 72 hours (Saponification is finished after a Max of 3 days in CP). Both still need to Cure. The Process used does not change the Curing Process any.

No cooker is needed. But before you mix oils with Lye water make sure oils are heated and temp is 195°
Temperature is a big factor
You can use any oils you like with lye water. I wrap after trace is reached to make soap transparent this method won’t work.

I do hp and ive never had that scary reaction before....
I made my first batch for HTHP soap today... everything went well untill the first volcano...after it oils and water split...but after that temperature started getting down and i had to cook it on stove top to complete the cook and volcano never happened again...:(
Once volcano cools down you must use blending stick in high speed. The will cause more reaction until done. Combination of spatula and blender.

I do not have a crockpot. I heat up my oils up to 200 Degree F. I use a Portable Induction Cooktop for this. Then I mix a fresh lye water solution that might get as hot as 195 - 200 degree. I mix and It works just like a crock pot. Hope this help. Another video coming soon.

Once my oils reach 200 degree F I remove from heat. Then I mix my lye water solution. I do not use any heat after oils and lye are combined they produce the heat once it reacts.

Yes and yes. Stainless steel on heater. Then I remove and the mixture will do its reaction and hear up more

Possibility is that the temperature is two low and mixing is low as well. Make sure stick blender is on highly. But keep in mind sometimes you won’t see a volcano but some reaction or phases. Best of luck!

Kelly McRae when I mix the oil and the lye it is not on a burner. The only time I heat up anything is my oil then I remove and proceed to add my freshly mixed lye water solution

I’m having trouble finding an accurate scale.
I use 35% water/lye My yogurt is a spoon per pound. I use this scale and another I purchased from Costco amzn.to/3tOelCV

That’s lovely 💕 i just started my hot process soap last night. But I’m still confuse, when i add the yoghurt, should i reduce my water in replace of yoghurt?

Depending how fluid you want it. I add 1 spoon per pound or less.
If you wash your equipment can you use it for food or you use it especially for soap making
I only use it for soap making.
