    Thanks for keeping it real. When I first started thinking about trying to make soap, I hesitated because I kept seeing TH-camrs preaching about PPE and how dangerous lye is. Once I tried it, I realized it's much ado about nothing. I have had lye solution on my skin many times, and it's not a big deal. I don't bother with gloves anymore, and I have never had so much as a red mark. Meanwhile, my sister won't even try my soap because it's made with lye. She thinks it will hurt her skin. No amount of explaining will ease her fear.
    I believe strongly that all the fearmongering about lye scares away would-be soapers and prospective users alike. Seeing you reaching into this tank of soap and suffering no ill effects should be reassuring for anyone who is nervous about making or using handcrafted soap. Soapers, use as much or as little PPE as you feel you want/need, but please stop shaming makers who don't do things your way. It's not good for the industry.

    I love that you tell the truth of most soapers. Yes we start out with gloves and all the protocols but somewhere along our soap journeys we don't always follow them.

    Thanks for explaining what’s happening with the eruptions and why they are happening! I am a newbie working with cp, but want to try hp to save on essential oils. I am intimidated by the eruptions and also the amount of stirring seems to take more muscles then I have….lol!

    I love your process. I only make bench top HP soap it's great see how to upscale production. I use powdered goats mix with warm water and like your process add after it 'cooks' and add the yoghurt. (for vegan HP soap i had success using coconut milk and vegan yoghurt). I always use powdered goats milk to form a mica line and sprinkle powdered goats milk to top. I never have any issues with the the mica line or top causing any issues. Thank you. Cheers Bronne... Do you have a burner of sorts under your large pot?

    • @countrylathersoapworks
      @countrylathersoapworks  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t have any heat source under my pot. My oils are over 200 when I add them to the pot and I mix my lye fresh. With them being super hot saponification keeps them hot.

    Can you get one of those paddle mixers for large dough making or for epoxy mixing? Would that be easier then stick blending?

    • @countrylathersoapworks
      @countrylathersoapworks  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am figuring on getting a commercial stick blender. I have a paddle attachment for a drill and it is super hard to hang onto.

      @@countrylathersoapworks I spent a little time making soap for a business. For it I bought several identical cheap stick blenders. They had enough power just not enough duty cycle. 3 stick blenders was what I needed for a 10kg batch to not burn out the motors. Cost me all of 30$ (looks like 40$ would do it now)
      Once the soap hits a certain viscosity a bit after trace, the effective area being stirred is pretty small, and around then a paddle becomes more efficient. For soaps that try to seize like pine tar a paddle was required since the stick blender was useless after about 20 seconds.
      This could also be my soap base I use castor oil (emollient) base rather than olive oil. I don't like the smell of olive oil soaps.
      when oven processing If you can seal your heating vessel you can save on the expensive ingredient of smell. (non metallized turkey oven bag) I never used more than about 1oz of essential oil for a 10kg batch. like 3/4 oz of mentha piperita oil, or 1oz pimenta racemosa essential oil in a 10kg batch.

    I really enjoyed your video and watching this process. Very interesting! I watched a couple of your other videos and noticed you also make cold process soap. Do you prefer hot process for certain recipes? I’ve been wanting to try it for essential oil soaps since the fragrance is added at the end.

    I have only made hot process in a crockpot and Love it. I want to make bigger batches. What size pot would you recommend for a 10lb and 20 lb batch? Love your videos ❤ or what would you say the rule of thumb is for sizing your pot? Double the size of the batter? Or triple the size?

      I use a 50 quart for 30 lbs and the eruption gets pretty close to the top so I would recomend a 50 quart for the 20 lbs batch. It doesn’t hurt if you have plenty of head room.

    • @countrylathersoapworks

      This is a different method than most soapers use. It’s called the high temp hot process method. It erupts because of the oils being so hot and adding the lye solution fresh and hot.

    I recently bought a high powered 21" stick blender from Vevor for under $200....great quality and well worth the investment. For the amount of soap you make I believe it would save you a lot of unnecessary hard work and time.

      @@scottcrable4966 Never trivialized chemical burns or blindness for starters even mentioned wearing eye protection so no body ends up with lye in their eye like I did. Not teaching anyone the wrong way to make soap which is why I prefaced the video with use PPE. Choices people make after that is their own.
