It’s so refreshing to see a journalist speak and ASL I feel like it really shows that there are some that wants to open up more to the deaf community

I'm crying cause this is so beautiful! Mrs. DiMarco (His mother) hit it right on. Old school did not want sign language. I went to a deaf school when I was young and they only taught us to read lips and told us we can't sign because it would hinder us. I can hear partially with the one ear I do have, but I have limited knowledge of sign language. I'm caught in between the hearing culture and the deaf culture. It's a very hard place to be in, especially as a musician. I can't wait to read his book. Thank you for sharing and loved that the interviewer is also using sign language,

I am now learning ASL and will use it as my "co language" I do speak ,I am an adult who has lost considerable hearing so I will use both. There is a misconception that we are "different" because of our lack of hearing, I reply we are not different, we speak another language. So happy to see that hearing loss is finally being seen as a different use of a slightly different language, the grammar is different in ASL from spoken English. We are not disabled, we just speak in ASL.

I’m HOH . I use sign and I can speak. Sort of two different worlds. My speech gives it away that I am hard of hearing but it is pretty clear.
I know I am not deaf, I also know I am not hearing and walking that fine line sometimes makes for an interesting life for me. Not born deaf, so oftentimes not fully accepted in deaf community…not fully hearing so when it’s discovered that conversations can be difficult in certain noisy environments, the conversation is dropped. I sign but not daily so my sign isn’t as fluid as fully deaf people’s.
I’ve lived with this for my 70 years and it’s just how life works. Not completely one way and not completely another.

He is a handsome man, but he looks so much more handsome with a clean shaven face. I've seen some photos of him with a clean shaven face and he is drop dead gorgeous.

This is great! I wonder, though - can deaf people who can't afford to be constantly accompanied by an intepreter get government funding for it?

I find it interesting that the blind don’t seem to have the same sense of culture despite having their own language and needs. I wonder why they don’t have the same sense of community.
