    As a Deaf person I really understand how awkward and uncomfortable it can be (at first) to have a conversation and use an interpreter. But did no one tell them it was rude to speak to the interpreter and not Nyle? Peta did such an amazing job speaking directly to him while the hosts seemed lost.

      Isn’t it always rude to speak about a deaf person in front of them instead of to them?

    • @ludieziehmer8497
      @ludieziehmer8497 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      yes, being deaf, i need a person to pay attention to me ,mostly eyes contact.

    • @amrose4214
      @amrose4214 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It not really meant as a rude gesture on purpose, if one is verbally talking too like Ramon is using his voice outloud people are going to look to the speaking person it just natural instinct to the person talking. The interpreter gotta do alot of work on both ends talk, ASL, do gestures back, they go so fast too nyle lip reading. Not all gonna be perfect.

      @@amrose4214 I definitely agree it's not on purpose. I'm not so sure it has anything to do with who's speaking. I'm a hearing wheelchair user who speaks, but if I'm out and about with nondisabled people (be it family, friends, dates, my personal assistant), many nondisabled strangers speak to them rather than me. Like, I ask a clerk about X, they turn towards my assistant to answer. They ask my assistant something about me, with me right there, and I answer. They tend not to make eye contact or turn to look at me, even though I am speaking to them using my voice. It's called ableism. The fact that it's not on purpose does not make it any less dehumanizing, unfortunately. Props to Nyle Dimarco for keeping his cool.

      It’s not on purpose but someone should have told them to look at Nyle during the conversation. They wouldn’t know but needed to be told.

      I don't know who the old white haired guy is, but when Nyle said he at first he wanted to be a math teacher, and the old white haired guy said "and then you took your shirt off" I was really repulsed. Clearly Nyle is an insanely talented, smart guy who isn't just successful because of his body.

    This man is just incredible! I see all the comments about how the hosts are being rude and i do agree but I dont think some people know how to act in situations that are unfamiliar to them. Nyle did an amazing job despite the hosts being slightly rude. Nyle has become such an inspiration to me its just so amazing!

    Ok wtf... NEVER look or show the interpreter interpreting on camera, it is very rude to Nyle. They are supposed to look at Nyle, because they are talking to HIM and not to his interpreter!! And there is NO NEED to show the interpreter on camera because WE CAN HEAR HIM and because he is just interpreting what NYLE is SAYING!

  • @erin8432
    @erin8432 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I can understand why they wouldn’t know not to look at Ramon while he’s interpreting for Nyle, if they haven’t had much interaction with deaf people before, BUT the interviewer directing the first question towards Ramon, as though he couldn’t speak for himself was very disrespectful

    if nyle felt they were being disrespectful he would have signed that to ramon but he just goes with the flow and follows with his eyes they like radar they zoom in on details so your can never really tell and they are kind of talking over each other at times as a hearing person i find that difficult to follow at times cause its just noise.

    I think the interpreter is shown so that deaf viewers can understand what's being said. Or am I wrong? Sorry if I got this wrong.

    got to understand its not being disrespectful to nyle its a natural, built in instinct for hearing people to turn to a sound from another direction or person even when nyle is signing it has happened in many interviews even sharness burgess has said it has been hard on her to try to not look at the interpreter when the interpreter is talking. nyle himself has said he has to adapt to the hearing world by using methods like the lip reading or just using universal hand signals to get a message across.
