The site of the San Luis Strip Mall at 31:30 is where I was born in May 1950. Then it was the location of the Salinas Valley Hospital. The owner of the private hospital was Dr. Rollin Reeves. Rates were $6.00 for a room without a bath and $12.00 for a room with a shared bath. There were 26 rooms in the one story stucco building. The Hospital was closed and demolished in the 1950's. 70 years later and now it's a, "Smoke Shop". Sad...sad...sad.
I so loved Salinas. I was stationed at Ft. Ord and lived in Salinas. I would still be there but the drug and gang problem was just not a good place to raise kids.
Wow I don't remember that road work at all. Off ramp toward downtown. I just got a wild hair to look up my lifelong hometown. KSBW doesn't want controversial commentary on their videos apparently, so I landed here. Probably smart of them. This is weird, watching in 1st person, but not.
By the loud turn signal and other noises it sounds like someone is driving an older manual. I hope I'm right. I've been driving one for 20 years, not the same one.
