I have two 4 year old weimaraners and I just got a puppy weimaraner. I was lucky because one of my weims thought that the new puppy was it's baby and took to her immediately. It took about 3 months for them to acclimate but it was worth it. They love each other a lot now. I am glad that you hung in there.

How long did it take for them to start warming up to each other? We have a golden retriever and just got a Vizsla puppy. Vizsla puppy loves the golden and the golden isn't taking to the Vizsla puppy. We've spoken to the vet and two vet behaviorists and they said that its still in the adjustment period (first couple of months) but they also said that its possible the golden may never take to the puppy. We are devastated and heartbroken because the puppy is a perfect dog and we are scared. We're caught off guard, too, because the golden has always loved being around other dogs and puppies. Did it take months? Over a year?

It took Olive and Millie a few months to accept that the other wasn't going anywhere. Although it isn't the relationship we hoped for, we've learned to respect their relationship. There are small things they do that makes my heart happy, like when Millie lets Olive sit next to her, or when Olive and Millie seek each other out at the dog park.
I hope everything goes well for your golden and V.

@@millieolivevizsla8746 thank you for the reply and for sharing. That’s such a relief to hear. Most of what you see online are the perfect fur-baby sibling relationships from the get-go and it’s so heartbreaking when that’s not what your experiencing in the slightest.
Since I made my comment, the golden and the Vizsla puppy are doing noticeably better. They’re acting more like “stereotypical” siblings now, if that makes any sense. They even lay near each other sometimes. We suspect their relationship will be just like Millie and Olive’s. Not what we hoped for but we will be happy just the same. 😊

    Lovely story!
Did you consider it was a matter of maturity? Ever since I had a dog I watched how adult dogs (mostly 1y+) are utterly disinterested in puppies!
It's like puppies are boring and annoying for adult dogs, it's like they don't know the "rules" yet... I'm no expert so I don't know for sure.

Sure. Two Viszlas are much better than one.
