    As someone who lives in an apartment and wants to get a vizsla, I'm so happy to hear you're in an apartment with a vizsla! I used to walk an older vizsla (who I absolutely fell in love with) and she still needed minimum 2+ hours of exercise a day. More if she could get it. I have so many huge parks on my doorstep and the countryside and hills are not too far out either. As much as I would love to have a garden for them to go outside whenever, I know that is not a dealbreaker, and they need lots of regular exercise regardless. Love your content and your pup :)

    Mine is 4 years old now and the most obedient, easily trainable dog I have had. Other dogs I have had, I have taken out and conducted specific training sessions - not with my Vizsla. He simply looks at me and says "yep, I know what you want" and does it. He obeys voice and hand commands [necessary when he casts too far out or when on game] and will not approach people unless I say to him "Say hello Conner", then he goes to then and pushes into them for a cuddle. I've never used treats as a method of training - don't believe in it; I simply use affection, lots of positive affection. He has had the odd and I really mean, "odd" kick in the bum when he was younger, just to show him my displeasure at one of his antics, but that is all I have ever had to do - he'd far rather have my affection. I walk him 10 ~ 12 km a day [every day] broken into a morning walk and an afternoon walk. In winter, we walk in the dark and he loves hunting in the park where he gets opossums, rabbits, feral cats, rats and other creeping things. The most important thing in training your dog is to train yourself - train yourself to be consistent! Use one word commands - you don't need a sentence. Oh, and stop training your dog to be a slut for food, stop the treats [that's a lazy way of training] and show your dog true affection when they please you - all your dog wants to do IS please you.

    I got my Vizsla three weeks ago at 7.5 weeks old. The first week was love and cuddles with the cutest puppy ever. The second week she was biting me and hanging from the curtains! I realized very quickly that I have to start the training much earlier than I would with another breed. So at nine weeks I started regular multiple times a day training sessions, including short walks on a leash like a big dog. It shifted her behavior. I also realized I couldn’t get down on the floor and play with her because it made her think I was a littermate, and she would tear me up! Her behavior got better as soon as I shifted my interactions with her. I still get cuddle time I just had to learn when to go for that. And of course we have a long way to go! Thank you so much for your videos. They have been incredibly helpful.

      Sounds like you’re a perfect pup parent! ❤️ they do need so much attention and training.
      I still go on the floor and play with Willa like a pup would, but we do stop often and I say “be gentle with mom please” and she’ll be easier on me!

    Willa is lovely. My experience- as long as a Vizsla has a roof over its head, it doesn't matter whether it's a house or an apartment. It will favour a spot when you're not around, and (if you allow it- as I did) sleep right next to you under the covers. Two major walks/hikes per day are critical, alongside serious (but always fun and affectionate) training. If you would like, you can see a video on my dear Vizsla who lived a wonderful life to 16 by searching "Ode to Vizsla"

    Good afternoon. Willy is amazing. You guys are awesome with her. We've had a Vizsla for 2 months. We got him at 5 months. He's been incredible. I just wanted to let you know, that you owe know one and explanation on your living space. Y'all make it work. Great job! Yes there are good and bad days. Mostly good. Those days when I get overwhelmed I say to myself, "This is what you wanted." Please continue to do more videos. We love it. Blessings

    Great channel! We have a Vizsla that just turned 9. He still looks and acts like a puppy. No gray on his face and is in great shape. You are correct in that they need that daily full speed run. If he doesn’t get it he will have to get that energy out somehow. Great dogs that just love to snuggle. 😊

    Love your channel, my family is going to get a vizsla in december. What are some tips or som regrets you had when Willa was a puppy?

    • @BecomingADogOwner
      @BecomingADogOwner  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m working on a video right now for your first week with a puppy! Keep your eyes out in 2 weeks 👀
      Biggest tip for puppies is crate training.
      For food, you aren’t supposed to give treats or human food, kibble is good enough for the first few months then you can start to introduce new foods.
      And most important vizsla tip is a strict schedule, for meals, potty, walks and bedtime.

    New to your chanel! I love your content.
    What initially made you choose the Vizsla breed? I'm trying to decide on a breed for a service dog. I'm 1/2 paralyzed and rebuilding my life. I'll be alone and would absolutely love a companion. I would be buying a condo as well. So location will definitely be considered for the dog. I would always take her with me where ever I go. Grocery shopping, gym, church, restaurants, anything out of the house. Thank you for your time and information ❤

      Hi David, we’re so happy to have you here ❤️ Vizsla’s can be incredible companion dogs, very loving and sweet. The bond you share with them is like nothing I’ve ever experienced. But that also comes with an extraordinary amount of training, work and exercise. I’ve found that in order to get Willa to that calm, velcro, cuddly stage she needs to have played and ran a considerable amount.
      As for the condo, lots of people suggest Vizsla’s should be in an apartment but we made it work! We were fortunate that there are tons of hikes and trails in north van.
      If you can find a vizsla service dog I think she would be the best companion! 🧡

      @BecomingADogOwner  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Now is perfect!
      When we started running with Willa on leash she would always run between my legs and trip me 🙈 the heel position is important when training to run

  • @gracielagonzalez7266
    @gracielagonzalez7266 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Watching them run is amazing. Whenever we take Peanut off leash I just can’t stop smiling. Her joy gives me joy.
    I’ve been struggling to get her a harness that fits her frame properly. Vizslas are slender but long. The space between their front legs is narrower than most harnesses. I’m looking at the Kong harness like Willa’s but Peanut is in between sizes in their size chart. Looking at weight, I should get a medium but looking at chest girth I should get the large. What size does Willa wear?

    • @BecomingADogOwner
      @BecomingADogOwner  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed I love watching Willa turn her speed up mid run it’s amazing!
      We got Willa a large but it is on the tightest setting. She’s super lean and small chest, so it’s still a bit big but I think a medium would be too small.

      @@BecomingADogOwner Dear friend! Thank you very much for your answer. Yes, I knew that, I guessed that you have a Hungarian Vizsla dog. I was just not sure if this breed is also called that there 💡? (I hear and read that your film channel is in English, I thought you lived in England) Unfortunately, I don't speak languages, I don't speak English, I only speak Hungarian in my mother tongue! Sorry! ...now you might be surprised that I am Hungarian, a Hungarian dog friend, like you. My mother also has a Hungarian Puli dog. My daughter currently has a small mixed breed dog. However, a long time ago I also had a big black German Vizsla male dog. He had a huge deep voice and was a very active dog like yours! Later, my daughter also wanted a Hungarian Vizsla dog, because when she was little, we used to walk in front of a hunter's house, and there we were greeted by two friendly Hungarian Vizsla dogs. They looked just like yours! My daughter loved them and suddenly she wanted a dog like that too. We all had dogs, so my daughter got a Hungarian Vizsla. For me, this dog is a very beautiful and lovable breed. All dogs are lovable, of course! The dog is special above all animals, because as far as I know, the dog is the only animal that does not choose another dog, if not a human. The dog is smart. The dog is smarter than the cat. The dog is genetically ready. The cat isn't ready yet. A very loyal friend! Your dogs are also very beautiful and lovable, smart animals! It's a pleasure to see you playing and running together. I do not know who you are ? I think you can be a friendly person! I think so from your kind comment. I'm here for the first time, animals. I was watching Vizsla Dogs and TH-cam brought me your dogs! I liked it and gave you a like. And I was mischievous😘😉🤭 when I asked what kind it was. Of course I know what it is. Hungarian breed✨️🐕. However, I was very curious, are your grandmother, grandfather, or mother, father, Hungarian? Because, if so, we can talk if you feel like it! About what ? I do not know. Odysseus🌊 🛶⛵️about his dog 😉🤗🫳🐕 What was Odysseus's dog like? If you're interested, I'll share what I heard with you.. Now I'm saying goodbye to you! I wish you and your family more good walks, runs, exercise, and a Merry Christmas! Greetings from Hungary, Paul 👋🐶🇭🇺

    Do you take Willa to day care for the day just to get some socializing and active play? We use to do it once a week and she would come back exhausted and sleepy/calm for 1.5 days. I was great… the only downside was sometimes she got sick even though they have a strict vaccine policy.

    • @BecomingADogOwner
      @BecomingADogOwner  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We took her to daycare once and she got really bad kennel cough, we haven’t been since.
      We plan pup play dates and Willa is pretty social on walks. It’s the best when we come across another V, gsp or weimaraner they play so hard and at the same level.
      I’m ready to try the daycare again just a bit nervous for her health!

    Mine kills small animals- and will want to go back to where they were last time he saw them. They are super challenging. Like habits but are a continual surprise as well. But the connection is so worth it.

    • @BecomingADogOwner
      @BecomingADogOwner  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That does sound difficult! Willa has never gone in for the kill, she loves chasing for now. The hunter instinct is so strong in them! But agreed their loyalty is too which makes them such a great pup.

    My son had a stroke. Moved in with his Vizsla mix. Can anybody help? She seems so sad and needy and does not go out with my other 3 dogs. My son's gf dumped him post stroke. She was mama and the dog was pack leader to a blind day and a french bulldog. Now she is the smallest of the 4.
    She always wants to be touching me. Climbs into my lap and lays her head into my neck.
    Any suggestions?

      Wow, so sorry to hear about your son. V's are a very sensitive breed and it sounds like she's taking the life change a little hard. Some breeds adjust to change much better than others. But if she hasn't been destructive to your home or aggressive to the other dogs then you are in a good spot to help lift her spirits. She may just need some one on one time with you or someone else that can make the commitment. This breed absolutely LOVES people and really do require human interaction and gentle TLC and a lot of it. Like Cass said in this video, if they get what they need literally every day, not just when it's good for you, they are very happy dogs. But if they don't, then you're bound to have problems. Good luck! One day at a time.

      Hi Cindy, I’m so sorry to hear about your son ❤️ I hope things get better. It’s possible your V is depressed, with her mom suddenly gone and your son unable to give her the attention she’s used to. It makes sense that she’s seeking comfort from you. Vizsla’s are emotional pups, If you have the time definitely give her all the cuddles you can. Try to find some off leash dog trails so she can go running in open space with your dogs, hopefully she’ll get closer with them over time. But she’s probably just going through her sadness and needs some love right now ❤️
