Dan sings and performs this with such passion that it is impossible not to feel sooooo emotional. It brings me to my knees and thank Jesus for dying for all our sins. God bless Dan Vasc. This is a 10 plus!!!!
Fun fact: The original voice of Jesus Christ Superstar was Ian Gillan, lead vocalist of Deep Purple. Fantastic rendition by Dan in this one! Great reaction guys!!! 🎶
Didn't know that, thanks for the info. I saw Deep Purple in the 70's unfortunately I was under the influence😉 and don't remember the exact year. I know it was the 70's and it was in Akron,Ohio.. Of course as I am in my 70's now we will blame it on age.😁😁😁Peace and love.

I would rate this strictly by Dan's performance and I give it a solid 10/10.

Go through it again, paying real attention to his facial expressions, he truly feels what he sings. This song was from the evening of the last supper when Jesus is arrested.

Dan is definitely a SUPERSTAR in his own way, love to see him be recognized by record company but he’s doing so well in all the covers he’s doing.
This was the scene in Jesus Christ Superstar where Jesus was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane the night before his trial & crucifixion. He asked God to, if possible, to remove the "cup" that laid ahead for him. He was terrified of the ordeal so much that he sweat "drops of blood". In the Bible, he was much less accusatory, but in this rock ópera they did get the emotions spot on. Jeff Fenholt was the original Jesus on Broadway that soundtrack is available on TH-cam. He was amazing! He later converted to Christianity & lived his life as an amazing evangelist through his music! Sadly, he recently passed away. His beautiful voice is missed here on earth. The Heavenly Choir inherited one hell of a set of pipes! 💖

As a college student, I used to play the songs from this musical on the piano and sing them. Dan's rendition is heart-breaking and powerful.

Oh my goodness, YES!!!!! 😂 Yvonne Elliman's "I Don't Know How To Love Him" is the only song out of my mom's JCS songbook/sheet music that I ever learned to play and sing all the way through on the piano. 🤣

Well, it is not biblical, but it wasn't meant to be. Funny that some people actually think that this is how Jesus did it.

The Son never rebelled or mouthed out against the Father. He suffered and sweated blood and angels were sent to comfort Him. And then He went to meet the horde that came to arrest Him.
But that wouldn't have been exciting, dramatic 🎭 theatre, right?

I've heard many versions of this song and this by far is the BEST performance, most believable, bar none. Dan is truly amazing and his passion and talent clearly shows in this song. I believe the wrinkled white top unbuttoned shirt is to mimic the ragged clothes that Jesus would have worn - it's his 'costume'. Please do more Dan Vasc - he has so many great covers - all good. Bohemian Rhapsody, I Want it All, 18 and Life, Kickstart My Heart, so many... Enjoy!

Sorry guys gotta give this one a 10. I'm usually pretty close with your ratings but he brought me to tears with this performance. What a loss for the Broadway stage that he never came to New York. How could you guys give this anything but a 10! This is a brilliant performance from a brilliant rock opera. Personal preference does not apply! Judge this on the voice and performance alone.

We agree that Dan was a 10/10 for his performance and voice, the song was not quite one we would have on repeat, hence that score.

Dan Vasc did a great job with this song but Ted Neeley will always be Jesus Christ Superstar for me personally. I saw the film version back in 1973 and was floored by the Broadway talent. I've seen Ted perform this on stage as well and I own a copy of the movie. Also, know one can sing "I don't know how to love him" better than Yvonne Elliman. Still makes me cry.
Ted Neeley had this song down emotionally! This was blank and boring.

Gethsemane is one of my favorite songs from the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. It's called Gethsemane because this is the scene in The garden of Gethsemane when Jesus prays to God and asks to take this cup from me I don't want to do this. In the Bible story shortly after that the Romans came and took him away in chains. It's right before Judas betrayed him by walking over to him and giving him a kiss so the Romans would know who to arrest.
If you have not yet reacted to Dan Basques cover of Bring Me to Life by Evanescence you're missing a whole lot about Dan.

Not sure if you’ve watched it but Dan does Puccini’s Nessun Dorma from Turandot. He sings it full opera and rivals the late, great Pavarotti.

Ted Neeley actually played the role of Jesus in the film in 1973. He was dressed in a white, sort of, robe and I think Dan was attempting to have a similar look. Personally Dan's voice is richer, Ted's seemed to grate on my nerves, but that is just me. His high scream is as impressive as Ted's, or even better. It doesn't seem as bitty! That doesn't make much sense, probably only to me lol.
Ok, if I do not actually look he sounds Great!

I watched the 1973 movie based on Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical on TV near Easter every year as a child right through to my late teens. I can honestly say after watching dozens of other performances of this song by others only Dan Vasc 's performance and the one in the movie has ever left me wowed. If you get a chance listen to "Heaven on their Minds" from the Jesus Christ Superstar 1973 movie. I suggest skipping the first 30 seconds unless you personally like 1970 disco'ish filler. When Judas actually begins to sing is where the song becomes good. "Everything Alright" has Judas, Jesus and Mary and while Mary sings most of the song it is the men who out shine her. Her voice is sweet innocent and pure while theirs are powerful and commanding. It is like a duel of two Dan's with a shy Christine from Phantom of the Opera before she is fully trained.

Paul Nicholas played jesus as well, but I was not impressed by his vocals. Steve Balsamo and Australias John Farnum did the two best I had heard before this one. Dan destroys this song in the best of ways, such that Sir Andrew and Tim Rice probably don't want their song back because it has been expertly folded and spindled. The best mix of PASSION and vocal chops I have ever heard. Your suprise on the high notes said it all.

I suggest you guys check out a singer you have heard before do his version of this. See John Farnham last night performance of JC Superstar Australian production. To be honest you need to compare. Ted Newley, Ian Gillan, also.
Just have to add my voice to the "this performance deserves a 10 out of 10". Many reactors that give "scores" on the videos they react to usually give too low a score, imho, and usually for the lame reason of "not really my thing" or similar. I'm not into musical theater and avoid it as much as possible, but this performance meets or exceeds all of the other performances out there. Yes, I have gone and watched a few just to see how Dan's version compared, and I will take Dan's version over any of the others any and every time.

Hey guys, look first of all I enjoy your reactions, however and I´m going to say this to you as I have said it to some other reactors, you guys shouldn´t have a cup of tea when reacting, if so I would suggest you look only for the videos you enjoy, with the type of music you like to listen to, reactors focus on the quality, ability, capacity, tonality, range, highs and lows, yes maybe the performance and everything else which is related to being a good singer, it´s about singing not what is being sung, focus on judging the voice, other than that I enjoy watching you.
Please someone show Dan's videos to Andrew Lloyd Webber. He will surely scoop him up!

I absolutely love Dan's vocals & performance but I also totally despise the song itself and always have. Please do another one off his song list, of which there are hundreds. With said said, I hit the like button in support.
for the sake of the song and its performance I gave a thumbs up, other wise by your scoring I wouldn't. performance is part of the song as much as musical composition in theatrical music and should have been considered else why bother singing it.

Together they make a whole and it's why it's called theatrical music, it has to be seen to be properly understood. It's kind of like judging figure skaters by there music without seeing them dance.
I found your reaction quite disrespectful tbh. You didn't seem to have a clue what the performance was about. You should've checked Ted Neeley's Gethsemane first, then you might have understood better why Dan sang and behaved the way he did. Instead you sat there laughing to a performance about Jesus having second thoughts about dying from God's poison. The white shirt was as close to a white shroud he could get I guess. You should have understod that if you had seen Gethsemane. Just saying.
I really must be missing something as I don't understand your reactions to Dan at all. When did he 'just stand there with no emotion?' obviously I've not seen that one! Whilst I appreciate the song itself may not be 'your cup of tea' - had Dan written it then maybe critique would be more acceptable but obviously he didn't, so I wonder, would you say the same to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice? I thought you were judging on vocal ability, the way an artist characterises a piece and performance as a whole. I have been through, I'd say, two thirds of Dan's covers and not one has disappointed. He's not trying to BE anyone other than himself, he doesn't mimic or copy. What he does do, is take a track, reimagine it and tell its story. He won't sign with a label because he wants total autonomy over what he produces and given that he does all his own harmonies, filming, editing, the list is endless, I have yet to see an artist who can be across all genres of music and perform at this level. Just saying!

It was the first reaction song we did for "Amazing Grace" and in that video he sort of stood still and just delivered the song directly to the camera, what we meant by showing now emotion was more he did not change his expression and movements.
Which is why is this song we mention, he gave more of a performance.
We were not putting Dan down in the first song, just pointing out his style of delivery.

This is good but I have to compare all performances to Ted Neely in the film. Nobody comes close to that stunning film performance.
