Isabel, I’ve learned from a book about Ayurveda, that there is a sanskrit word for the quiet and peaceful time before sunrise you described - its called Brahma Muhurta. It’s one and a half hours before sunrise. Literally it means "The Creator's time", it is considered the best time for all spiritual practices like yoga/meditation/prayers etc. Sadhguru says that when you spontaneously wake up around that time, you are falling in sync with life and nature, which is beautiful. I also love being awake during that time, it feels like you’re the only one in the universe, very powerful and calming. All the love to you and everyone reading!

40 years ago, if you asked me what I wanted to be in life. My answer was I don't know. "I think I'll try different things". I have never regretted it. The things you own in life end up owning you if you're not careful. Attachment is the root of all suffering. Be free, life is meant to be experienced. And that experience is uniquely yours. Understanding that all we have is this moment is reallity. The rest is gone or yet to be. You are on a amazing journey. 🙏

I went for the biochemistry route and now I’m a burnt out 26 year old grad student living in a gross city frustrated with the disconnect between the scientific field and our experiences as humans. And I also don’t enjoy spending 10hrs/day in a lab writing down numbers. So many of the world’s problems come from money and greed and overblown egos...it seeps into almost everything including academia and makes me want to run away. But your channel Isabel is a bright light for me! You are so inspiring and wise and you know how to bring me a much-needed piece of nature and happiness through your videos and storytelling. It helps me hang in there while I figure out what I want to do with my own life. And it is totally okay to have suffering mixed in with the joy, and you don’t need to show it if you don’t want to. But thank you for opening up to us and being vulnerable. I wish you the best ❤️

Once her final surgery was done we both knew we wanted a fresh start. We both love nature and sun so we collected just enough money to buy tickets for us and our animals and to rent a place in Spain. From there on we started building our lives in this new country. It took a while to find jobs, sort everything out, learn the language, get to know people, etc. It was very hard at first as I left everything I knew behind but I am so happy with the decision. Now we have been here for a bit more than 2 years and I am so thankful for the leap of faith we took. Much love from here, I wish you good luck on your own journey.

A well-meaning tip for keeping your flowers alive for longer: Don't use scissors to cut them, because they will squeeze the stems. Use a Knife and cut the stems diagonally to make the surface bigger, from whitch they can drink. Also put a little bit of sugar (1/2 of a teaspoon for 1l) and a copper coin into the water. You can learn more at your LOCAL LIBRARY than on any college campus. Most of my time was spent "jaw-jacking" over random topics that had nothing to do with class with my fellow college mates, trying to find parking, rushing to get to class on time, "hanging out" all over campus when we were supposed to be studying, and listening to boring lectures that you can watch anytime on TH-cam:-/ or worse yet, listening to Professors who just used classroom time to "vent" about their own issues:-/ or as a platform to push their own biases on us students. An $80,000 Bachelor's degree in most subjects is FREE at any library. Think about that.

Isabel, jambo. Don't mean to school you, heaven knows you have so much knowledge on life's intricacies already but this comes from a caring place. Please run cold water over your pressure cooker or gently let the steam out, through the value at the top of the lid. Put a small spoon to raise the value and let it release slowly. The way you release the steam outside by just opening the cover/lid has a very high risk tendency at various levels to hurt you. Please i don't want you to get hurt God forbid.

Metal fatigue would happen at higher temperatures and longer duration of use but before that the rubber lining within the vessel would given in, as its made for a certain amount of uses. The idea of my post is to be safe and its one of the ways to reduce temperature, which makes it safer to handle and open the lid. Otherwise if you read what i said or "gently let the steam out of the value", which would be the ideal way and i am sure the manufacturers have also stated so. Anything is better than opening the lid and getting a blast of steam on you. Otherwise, their always is the instruction manual closely read it and follow the safety instructions.

    quotation
" I really do feel very strongly about the idea of not forcing life to go the way you want it to but being open to letting things happen as they may.
I think when you try to force life to go how you want it to, inevitably it usually doesn't go that way... and then you're suffering.
But when you approach it with a sense of knowing that life will lead you to where you need to be, it almost just lets go of all of stress."

    Ha! Isabel, absolutely wonderful content!
My dad died of lung cancer age 47 in 1975. I was 17ish, failing at school, with ease. I left Ontario for the West. Ended up wintering over in Utah as a ski bum, whatever. A “friend” let me stay at his log cabin, no power, no plumbing, a mile up from the plowed road...
Being alone with your thoughts, lonely, and surviving, brings clarity and a certain amount of real life maturity that a lot of people just can not comprehend on the best of their off days.
I didn’t get back to school until I was 26, and only because it was a hurdle that needed to be covered before moving forward. But, by then I knew how to surmount those obstacles because of where I had come from.
Convoluted, but just keep living and moving forward, and you are well on your way to whatever makes you happy. Finding a compatible love-mate will be the toughest hill to climb, but it will work out.
Wishing you nothing but the best.

The only piece of unsolicited advice that I would give you is the following:
I was so adventurous and really followed my heart in my twenties. I truly thought that was the only way that I could live. However my big mistake was that I failed to build any wealth during that decade. Then I suddenly became disabled with a debilitating chronic illness in my mid-30s and was unable to work or save any money at all. Now I have just turned 40, and I am way behind in saving for retirement. I worry what my future holds. So I would tell you to, yes, go and follow your heart, but also make sure that you are saving aggressively the amount that you need to be saving in your twenties. Because you never know what can happen. And even if you continue to be healthy, you still don't want to miss out on a whole decade or two of saving for retirement.
There is a reason that people go to college and work jobs that they don't like. It's so that they won't have to be destitute and live in poverty, which I can say from personal experience really sucks.
But obviously that's not good either. It's best if you can find a balance between following your heart and doing work that you're passionate about that will pay you enough to allow you to save and live a comfortable life and afford healthcare etc.

Great advice. I wish I had invested when I was younger. I also spent 3 years at a job without contributing to my 403b, without realizing, because I had not selected the right options. I avoided that world for most of my twenties because it did not feel good thinking about money in that way, making the decisions, talking to the people, doing the papers. But I wish I had gone through that small bit of discomfort in order to have secured a more stable future. I've learned that the keys to most people's early retirement or non-traditional lifestyles are passive income & investments.

    • @factitiously
      @factitiously 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I would also say that it is possible to both follow your heart and have a good career that provides for you. For example, with a science degree, there are a million jobs you can do that don't include being a lab tech.
The one that comes to mind for me, as a former journalist, newspaper editor and freelance writer, is that you could do science writing. I chose freelance writing so that I could continue to travel the world while earning money and stimulating my intellect. Now that I'm sick, I'm still able to use those skills to work part-time on documentary films from home.
UC berkeley has an amazing science journalism program and I bet you could get a full ride scholarship.
Anyway, that's just one idea. There are a million careers that would still give you the freedom to follow your dreams. I would just hate to see someone of such promise work in low paying jobs and saving no retirement thinking that's the only path to freedom. I actually think that's not freedom at all.

Holly? I agree. All of life is about "finding balance". It took me years!!!!!!!!!!!!! to learn how to eat in a restaurant without any companionship and now I love going out to places by myself! We all have to find that "balance" that makes us happy. LONELINESS is devastating at the beginning (when you first try it, if you are always used to living in a home with other siblings or roommates or just "around people" like in a big city). It's "manageable" though, and we "adapt" to our circumstances no matter what:-) I like to write in journals or take long hot bubble baths to "cope" with loneliness and the moment always passes:-) Now? I have lived alone for so long I don't think I ever even want to "cohabitate" with anyone ever again! "Alone" time has become that! enjoyable!!! Isabel seems to do very well out there on her own. I think she is just incredible! and so amazing!

I think it's important to remind people that we still just see a portion of someone's life. I've followed some "influencers" in the past, but none of them were as straight forward and honest as you are. I also understand that you feel lonely, I feel like that too, and I'm just a 2 hour train drive away from family. I have idolized an isolated life in nature for a long time, thinking I just wanted to be away from people and everything. Turned out I didn't wanted to be away from people, I just wanted to be away from the system and "modern" world we created. Just like christopher mccandles said "happiness is only real when shared", at this time of my life I couldn't agree more. (I am 24 by the way)

I didn't go to college because I wanted to experience life. I traveled in a van with my two kitties and I sadly let having my cats stopped me from traveling to different countries, but I ended up back home after my mom broke her hip. After I helped for few months I found myself living in my family's tiny swamp cabin on a little swampy island. I was isolated for sure and worked at the local pet store. Around this time I would drive to New Orleans to go on dates (literary on tinder just to go explore with someone, which worked because I learned how to sail through it!) in isolation i found myself, and i didn't know it then but i found the love of my life.
i realized i WANTED more for myself, i felt the same in that i didn't have anything saved or didn't own anything and wanted love, i wanted more than just living day by day, I wanted to plan for my future so i enrolled in college for photography (the only thing I felt sorta capable of)
after a year in school i decided to switch my major after getting Dean's list and realizing maybe i am capable of a science major if i put my mind it. now i am going to be a dietitian! (two more years and a year internship AND a major degree) and OH BOY are these bio classes hard! it consumes ALOT of my time ha, but i love learning! (i just hate test)
but this video reminds me that that guilt i felt for not going right after school is silly. that wasn't my story. I didn't do yoga in bali but i lived a van with two cats and traveled(even though everything went wrong lol) and studied photography abroad in Rome- so what if started late?
our stories are what make us who we are and letting go of where life is taking us is such a load off. I am happy knowing i am with the love of my life and my future career will make a difference in people's life. thats all i need.
my god i had a lot to say haha

There is beauty in every day for those who seek to find it. Ask and you will be answered, seek and you will find, knock and the door will opened for you. One step at a time all things are possible. You are doing all the right things. Good luck and God bless on your journey to 70.

Three words, Wild Life Camera. That would be so awsome to catch the culprits in ur herb garden on film, adding flavor to the channel.

I feel so at home watching your videos and then I hear you play Mariee Sioux and my heart is full. I'm moving away from the Sierra Nevada's in 2 weeks. Fire season has displaced us far too many times. I will miss this place like no other and I'll always call it home. I've been here since I was 5. I'm beyond grateful for your videos, the stories you tell are mirrors to my own. Thank you

I now realize that there is nothing this girl cannot do!!! Welding isn’t one of those things that you learn easily, just by the sound I could tell that she was doing a good job...and I always seem to be starving when she starts cooking with those beautiful fresh veggies, all her foods look amazing...especially that cornbread omg

Mountain animals are ruthless. They eat everything. I had a really big cactus outside my back door that bloomed every spring, last summer I went out and something took a massive bite out of it. I feel your pain

Dear Isabel, It's wonderful seeing you learn to weld and use the drill press and angle grinder. As a long time professional welder and fabricator and log home builder for some big companies, I want to pass along some loving safety tips.
Firstly, always keep your hair covered when welding, as the small sparks damage your hair.
Secondly, and MUCH MORE IMPORTANTLY, make sure you tie your hair back and tuck it away INSIDE THE BACK OF YOUR SHIRT to keep it well clear from moving parts such as the angle grinder and drill press. One of my coworker's hair was pulled into a bread mixer, that we used to mix other materials , and she was beyond severely injured and almost killed. Grinders and drills are unforgiving and so dangerous around long hair and loose clothing. Also, never wear gloves when using the drill press (you were not in this video thank goodness) as gloves can easily be grabbed by the drill bit and twist your hand and arm and bones will be broken and worse. Stay safe and keep sharing your awesome corner of the earth with us. :)

Life is not suppose to be like a day planner with every little move planned out. That is boring. Life should be like a great book that never stops surprising you, never bores you, and leaves you with a warm heart and hope for a better tomorrow. You own life like a boss girl, and you just don't always see it. Your honesty is so touching and authentic. Namaste Isabel much love and respect to you girl.

I LOVE all the sounds of you cutting veggies. Especially the squeakiness of the corn! And so sad about your herbs. In my experience in Montana, deer eat EVERYTHING!!!! Never believe it when they say, "Oh they never eat this plant!" They ate my rhubarb right down to the ground, killed it! I love your videos.

It's good you talk about the reality of this type of life... people is like, ohh, you live in the mountains, you live in the woods, that's so amazing, ooohh, I envy you so much... but they don't realize how hard it is to live there.when I lived in the city with my mum, I remember to be cooking something and think, "-oh, I forgot this, or that" and you had a supermarket or anything on the same street... when you live away it's not like that, you have to take the car and drive some miles, go to the closest village, park, buy, and then take the car again, drive some miles again to go home... and you have to have some sustenibility (I don't know if it's the right word, English is not my native language)... but if I was you I would have a dog at least... actually I have one... I couldn't sleep with that window next to my bed at night, I would see shadows everywhere! so brave

You've made a little slice of heaven...at 22. Amazing. Inspiring.
I know you know this...but don't expect to feel happy and fulfilled all the time..no one does. I have a feeling you'll figure things out and drink every drop of wonder that life offers you. I love to watch your joy in Nature..it reminds me to do the same...and do everything in my power to protect it. Thank you.

In my garden, the deer come through at night and when my cucumbers are about 6 inches tall, they just graze the tops right off and later in the season, they will 'taste' one of my pumpkins and just nibble enough to ruin it. Often, if they take a small bite, it heals over. If I let the weeds get too high, rodents come and eat the cucumbers. Came out one day and it looked like a mouse was trying to make a canoe out of a cucumber.
