Wanted to chime in here about some of the commenting suggesting kind of a bait and switch with regard to level of difficulty. The tuning is easy, of course. The chord fingering could also not be simpler. The difficult part is the Travis picking, which only compounds whatever difficulty there is with the chords. Find yourself a good TH-cam tutorial on Travis picking and get the basic patterns and practice regimens down before struggling with this or any other finger style songs. Justin Guitar is where I learned finger style. He’s a great teacher. There aren’t any shortcuts, you just have to be patient and practice, practice, practice. Eventually, as muscle memory takes over, things start falling into place, and you can start reaping the incredible rewards of your labor. You even start coming up with your own patterns, and playing songs like this come literally automatically. Anyone can do it!Good luck!!! 👍👍👍
Would recommend down tuning the high E , the neck is going to pull back when you down tune the tension off the other strings, hope this saved someone a string
Make sure you're tuning it like this: 6th string (thickest string)- A 5th- A 4- C# (C sharp) 3- E 2- G# (G sharp) 1- E And then put your capo on the 6th fret, but only do so after you're done tuning. If you're really struggling and you only started on guitar very recently though, maybe come back to this song after getting more used to the instrument? This song isn't impossible, but it isn't particularly simple, especially if you're just starting out
Oh, I forgot to mention. About the tuning: make sure you aren't accidentally tuning up. The tuning is lower than standard tuning. The 5th and 1st strings stay the same (as in standard tuning), but every other string is tuned down
I have this app, Fender Tune... and in it, it allows you to create a custom tuning if the notes aren't too high. so as far as this song goes, I can get a good tuning when there's no capo, but when the capo's on the 6th fret, the notes are too high and I'm afraid my hearing isn't good enough to get a good sound by ear. Do you know what I should do in order to have a good tuning when my guitar is capo'd on the 6th fret?
Hey great video ! Thank you. I feel that maybe if you put the different sections in your timeline it would help a lot to visualise and learn the song :)
Hello there, thank you for taking the time to make a tutorial but i found it really hard to follow you. Saying the instructions only once and then playing quite fast made it very hard to understand. I kept having to rewind, zoom in on your fingers or even put the speed on slow. I‘m quite frustrated 😅 if you make more tutorials in the future make sure to sit closer to the camera so we can see your hands and don‘t worry abiut going a little slower. Thank you
Hi there, I'm sorry to hear you were frustrated! I do these in my spare time when I'm not teaching private students so I don't currently have the ability to do longer tutorials (though I believe there is a solid 45min tutorial for this song by Marin Music Center th-cam.com/video/4oOhPABow0Q/w-d-xo.html). My more recent tutorials I do edit in and show close ups on the hands, but haven't been able to go back and do this one. Thanks for your feedback and good luck! I hope the other tutorial can help you more.
Could you elaborate more? Is it a struggling to make it sound good due to rattling or more not being able to find the notes? Do you have a physical tuner that allows you tune to any note or is it a phone one using standard tuning?
@@JacobTShipleyi think the problem is not having a tuner that allows you to tune to any note, my one broke earlier this week and i should be getting new one soon but i'm having to tune from ear just from your video, i believe it would be helpful in the future to play each string without any talking a couple of times so people can ear tune if they don't have tuners on hand? it may be a little more helpful and stop some confusion
can u post what the tunings are?
Sure here you go!
Open:
1 E

That was explained peeerfectly, thanks! It's very fun to play :)

GREAT tutorial. youre a legend jacob
Thank's a lot for this great tutorial! You explained well, I just don't really get the order
It's definitely a little tricky! I did a cover here that you can follow along with: th-cam.com/video/flQ2E7ug2ds/w-d-xo.html

Great Tutorial!!
Thank you! Send me the video if you end up recording it!
Thank you🎉🎉
what does « thumb opposite middle »
Play the thumb first and then the middle finger rather than at the same time
Im new to guitar maybe im missing something. I’ve tried twice to tune this and it sounds nothing like it
Make sure you're tuning it like this:

3- E
2- G# (G sharp)
1- E

Get a physical tuner! Links to my faves here: www.jacobshipley.com/studentresources

Been meaning to do this and just learned today so they're up now! Let me know if I missed any key ones
@@JacobTShipley Thank you soooo much, it's so much clearer nowww !!!
@@tomyjo_28 You got it!
Is there any way of playing this with a guitar pick?
In terms of strumming or in terms of something more like alternate picking, cross picking, or hybrid picking?
@@JacobTShipley more like strumming
@@rael-trbt You could! Just be careful that you only strum the strings that you would be fingerpicking
Bruh why not just say string name when plucking. Saying thumb, pointer, middle, opposite middle is mad confusing. Man. 😅
Why did I think I could play this easily
MEU DEEEEEEEUS

Why is this composition that popular and intriging?
Ugh it’s so good. Lots of chromaticism, interesting metaphor lyrically, but also really soft and sweet?
i can’t get my guitar in that tuning
What do you mean?
I have the exact same problem
