Thanks very much for the video. Went to change my shock (Territory AWD 2007 - got a rattle up front and had attacked most things) and noticed grease under the RHS. Inner CV boot had gone. So an extra job. Looks intimidating but, looking at your video, this is a logical progression.
Can I ask that you post a video on using shock spring compressors on the Territory. My front seem to be progressive springs and I am having difficulty get the tool between the coils (not enough clearance) and am reluctant to modify the hook. A lot of the videos show standard springs with lots of space (or already removed). I have got a (used) cast aluminium version.
    Thanks again GF Wollongong

WTF is it with these drongos making "how to videos" and completely leaving out the only bits that actually matter???
I want to know how to get the CV joints and shafts out!
Making a video AFTER you already have them on the bench is completely pointless.

It would be good to see the cv joints being removed. Step by step.

Answered my question below - dismantle the sprung compressor and slide it down around the spring into the tighter section then reassemble and compress the spring.
My replacement spring was of a slightly different shape than the original and needed the top rubber section to be turned so that both the bottom and the top bolt met the holes properly.
However, the CV spline was stuck in there and wouldn't come out. Whacking it with a pound hammer, lots of penetration fluid, heat, puller - all failed. So a solution to this is to get a replacement CV Shaft (approx $150) and sacrifice the original instead of replacing the boots only) with a sledge hammer and brass drift between the hammer and the CV shaft.
Another alternative is to remove the hub from the car and do the CV shaft on the bench - still attached to the hub. Cable ties can replace the proper metal clips.
Haven't won yet ... only a matter of time before I get it sorted.

Doing this isn't as easy as it sounds. Getting the right boots to fit can be hard, especially as each side has different boots! the Passenger-side axle (short one) has hexagonal boots, the Driver's-side does not. Even the CV joints themselves are different sizes inside, and left-to-right are not interchangeable. When I did mine, Repco could easily find the hex-boots, but couldn't find the round ones for the driver-side. They only carried the shafts as a unit. But they did bring out a shaft, measured the boots and found me a set of generic ones that were a perfect fit. Now a lot of the stores have those boots listed for use with a Territory (at least in Brisbane).

Waste of time replacing boots. Just replace the whole axles. They are cheap, I just paid $300NZD for a pair. I just put them in now. I pretty much destroyed the old ones getting them out. So yeah just replace the complete axle, save your time & money. The axles have to come out anyway..... I doing a suspension rebuild so decided to swap them out as boots were all ripped.
