    Thank you Sir for this video on how to setup this turntable! Very helpful! I had a Rega Planar 1, which I decided to upgrade to a Rega Planar 2. A big difference in the sound especially in the bass department. I'm using this turntable with a Rega Elex-r amplifier and Q Acoustics 3050i speakers. My cd-player is a also a Rega, namely a Rega Saturn-r run through a Rega Dac.

      @@AudioAdvice Regarding record clamps is it safe to use a clamp, which weighs 325 grams on a Rega Planar 2 turntable? Can the weight damage the record-player? Is it better to use for instance the Michell Engineering’s model R (for Rega), which have less weight, but is tightened with a knob?

    • @AudioAdvice
      @AudioAdvice  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wadia21 Clamps have always been debatable with turntables not initially designed for a clamp. The Michell is the better choice, but then let your ears decide.

    • @wadia21
      @wadia21 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AudioAdvice Thank you for your reply! I lean towards Michell myself too, but I’ll try to make a comparison between the two clamps. I was primarily concerned with the weight of the other clamp and whether the turntable can handle that extra weight without any damages since the record-player was not originally designed with the clamp in mind as you mentioned.

    Watched this video months ago when I first got my Planar 2, but I think the tonearm's balance is a tad too light, as I was just too jazzed on listening to some records.. but it's only just now when I got the time to tweak it slightly heavier.

    The manual mentions setting the bias slider to zero before balancing. Then later shows a picture of the slider at 2 (but never mentions changing it). So...leave it at zero? Move it to 2? What am I missing?
    UPDATE: I think I figured out that as of September 2020, Rega has updated the RB220 tonearm of the Planar 2. Looking at the manual for the tonearm (rega.co.uk/download/TA-RB220-RETAIL-UNI_2.pdf) explains that the Bias Slider should be set to match the tracking force.

      If your amplifier doesn't have a built in phono amp you will have to buy an external phono amp that boosts the signal to make your turntable louder.

    So an odd thing I've noticed... the manual for the Rega Carbon Cartridge recommends a tracking force between 2-3 grams. And the manual for the RB220 tonearm recommends to set tracking force to whatever the upper limit is of a cartridge. So shouldn't tracking force actually be set closer to 3 grams, despite what the Planar 2 quick start guide states? Rega definitely seems to contradict itself a bit.
    I've tried this myself and IMO it definitely seems to have an audible improvement...

    I have a very old Rega 2, is pretty good but I do think the feet should be adjustable so it can sit perfectly level, I think that is essential so therefore I can't see how it can be a saving worth making no matter what the pressure on cost to produce /margins, I'd rather pay and extra £10-£20, just seems odd. Good video though, thanks for uploading.

      @@ChristianTulsaPeru Christian, please don't shoot the messenger. We asked Rega about this, it sounds like you will need a new motor and power supply. The motor requires some technical skill to install. They thought the cost for both items would be around $250. You probably want to find a local Rega dealer to install it for you. We asked if you could use a step up transformer to go from 110 to 220, but they said that would not work due to the 50 vs 60 cycle difference.
