Brava. I just saw Le Villi for the first time at the Bard Festival. Scotto is a grand artist. Ok, her top notes were never too glorious, but she knows exactly how to phrase Puccini and bring life to his music.
The name of this aria is "Se come voi piccina"

@PastaAndPavarotti who in the hell do you think you are.to critisize this ladys performance here is a travesty.i love it and her. she is a beautiful lady also.alone at the top.she has done opera very much. without the scottos there would be no opera.my opinion of your assesment of her is your full of pasta.
What year is this?
Iraly has in the past given the world great singers. Alas with Scotta and Freni we appear to have come to the end. As in France one or two trickle out and make a career on the international stage, but Germany and Austria and America have produced more singers, but even America can't turn out a singer with the charisma of a Scotto. In come there is indviduality but for the most part they are very generic , lacking in personal magnitism that would transcend them above the crowd. Scotto did take on roles that she probably shouldn't have but in the last analysis I am glad she did since we were amply rewarded for the results.
How about Anna Caterina Antonacci?
She is clearly past her prime and has trouble with her highs but would you deny us a chance to hear her artistic talent ? While I do object to old, wobbly, over the hill singers giving opera a bad name, this lady is a legend. She is singing for the pleasure of the fans and is not trying anymore to prove to anyone how good she is. Even at her worst she is better than most. That said, please don't cast singers like her at this age in an opera production. That would be offensive.

By old fashioned it take it you mean authentic.
She seems so happy to be abandoned. To my mind this smile is not the right way to "penetrate into the abyss of the Impersonal", if this is her idea to go beyond the personal pain. Not only the gesture language but also the vocal one are irrelevant and schematic.
Love her always... but what an unteresting aria from Puccini. Don't like it at all.
