Perhaps nobody wants to comment when they find that Elvira's husband was "killed by a cuckolded husband?" Wonder if that's an Italian to English translation many of us can't understand ? Does it mean a "kook?" does it mean a " jealous" husband or what ? That really could be better explained, yes? This composer certainly did have enough "love frustrations" to put into song, didn't he ? Ok, we'll wait for this translation! I love to hear about the personal lives of famous composers! Thank you Lynda for your comment and raising this interesting topic. Indeed "cuckolded" means betrayed (obviously an somewhat old-fashioned term, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuckold). Fifteen years ago, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Puccini's birth, books and articles appeared that dealt with Puccini's love life and one was surprised how far they influenced Puccini's life and work. For this reason I have given enough space to this aspect, because in my opinion it contributes to the understanding of the man and composer Puccini. kind regards
