Same-sex marriage was beyond even the most progressive queer couple’s conception. No-fault divorce was still a brand new idea. The world has changed remarkably in the last 50 years.

No they would not! The problem today is that people are writing songs as if they have just plucked randomly from the dictionary. Indecipherable stuff! Today's popular music makes no sense to the older generations (born before 1970 - make that 1980). Abba turned out to be excellent song-writers, in a language not their birth one. They could choose the most apt or searing phrases. The best artists can do that - and they know more than most that to screech and sing any old word, just because they have been informed they are talented, is a detrimental to their credibility as artists. But too often the industry just ploughs up the language, making their output less and less memorable as the years roll by. So no, of Abba could have sung out any old word, they would have been terrible.
When I was younger I thought ABBA were just a commercial pop band for teenagers. When I grew older I realized the ABBA´s music is much richer, and I listen to most of their songs today, and I realized that I missed a golden mine full of rich melodies.
You´re not alone about that discovery.. And most of the one hit second rate punk bands media focused on instead at the time, are completely forgotten today .

I like both Agnetha and Frida but somehow most of the Abba songs that I love are sung by Frida.. her voice is just something..that makes me feel so calm..
They are perfect complements, Frida's a little lower while Agnetha's a bit higher, therefore they make great harmonies. As they say, "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." ;)
