Me: just one Abba song before bed.
Me two hours later: just one more...
Same
For some reason, I always have the same. You just get into the vibe.... and before you know it, hoursss
Same. Except that I've been doing that two nights running now, and staying up half the night. Arrgh.
I don’t blame you mate!
Yup...waking up the house with my singing.
Who's loving this in 2024 😊
Me. It’s a work of art. And that’s from an old punk. That walking baseline, and that chorus. Superb.
Me, I am, ABBA are the best ever band ❤ I will be listening for ever more😊
Me, I love abba ❤
I am, and will be for many, many more years to come. 👍
me and in 77
Both Agnetha and Frida at their very best natural drop dead gorgeous selves
Agnetha>>>>
Yes stunning and full of life and love
All four of them are very attractive! I especially thought Björn was dreamy when I was a teen.
Frida was stunning!
Really sophisticated song. Minor key verse, pre-chorus, major key chorus, and if that wasn't enough, the major key post chorus breakdown. Many chords, all of them perfectly chosen. And the details in this song are extraordinary. The spaces. The tense little guitar lick at the end of the verse. The accents of horn over the chorus. This is pop songwriting genius. Up there with Jeff Lynn, Brian Wilson, Burt Bacharach and the Beatles.
Congrats...Comment writing genius.
Had John Lennon not said it was the best pop song, Or was that SOS, anyways he was a avud fan of their music.
Agree with whole heart 💜
Agreed! Andersson/Anderson/Ulvaeus concocted so many great tunes.
Thank you for your professional music comment.
I wonder how many hours of sleep Abba will steal this time...
I've already lost at least 30 minutes. :p
doesn't matter dear .... you'll wake even more fresh
haha so true, because it's the soundtrack to our lives.
I consider it time well spent.
YES!!!!!!!
Perfect vocal harmonies. No autotune. That’s talent.
Totally
No, but there is wall-of-sound, track layering technique. And lots of auto harmonies to create those haunting choruses
@@BroccoliBeefed Sure...but those layers were added on WITHOUT Autotune. As in....multple passes and hitting the right note each time.
ABBA never used autotune. Each vocal harmonie were sung by themselves originally.
Faultless. Heavenly.
Another reason I love ABBA: they all seem like sweet people.
Everyone seems sweet after they’ve had a line of coke the size of their leg
I'm starting to believe that this is what music will sound like in heaven.
True haa haaa.
After you have been welcomed by the last movement of Sibelius 5th symphony.
Imagine a band.. that only writes hit songs.
@Michael H. Hey I'm a Beatles fan to !
ABBA
@Michael H. Yesss Beatles ❤️
Shawaddywaddy?
As I grew up I was constantly amazed that yet another classic had appeared . After a few years you knew it was just a dead cert
The way that Benny looks at Frida....Wow!
Indeed, I've never seen them (or Agnetha & Bjorn) be so affectionate toward each other in any ABBA video.
I don't blame him. I try to look at my wife the same way.
It’s how I look at her too. 😆
*This* *not* *song* *.*
*This* *is* *timeless* *masterpiece* *.*
One of Abba's finest songs. Frida's and Agnetha's voices are so different and so beautiful. They are impeccably synchronised and combined. Masterpiece!
Composition, performance, production and arrangement all perfect. A masterpiece indeed.
I think its fair to say they are the most harmonious female duo ever - by a very long shot. Its like angels singing.@@inglepropnoosegarm7801
Masterpiece
When I first heard them, I assumed they were sisters (like Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart) because sibling harmonies are often so amazing.
My mom was born in 1920, grew up very poor. Her dad died when she was five, her mom died when she was eleven in 1931, and she and 3 of her siblings went to an orphanage. The oldest was 14 and considered too old to go to the orphanage, so she went to work as a nanny for a widower with 2 small children. He married her when she turned 15.
Their mom had no money for gifts for her five kids, so she gave them the only thing she could. She loved music and taught those kids to sing in harmony. She taught them every song she knew, from Gospel to 19th century bluegrass murder ballads, to funny novelty songs from the 1920s.
When I was a kid, we had family reunions every year, and after supper everyone sat outside under the oak trees as cousin Dale brought out his guitar and those siblings would sing the songs their Momma taught them long ago. I loved hearing them sing!☺
FACT CHECKED: yes
Metalheads, hard rockers, emos, progs... Everyone takes their hat off to ABBA.
It happens to me all the time...when I hear one ABBAsong(original or cover) I fall into playing and watching an ABBA marathon of music and videos , can't stop listening and watching!! Love ABBA!!❤️
Same happens with ELO lol
Lovejazz01, I'm glad I'm not the only one!
Lovejazz01 Good call. that's what I'm doing right now lol
Lovejazz01 me too!!
I just started my marathon now!😁
Here in Sweden we say >The one who doesn´t love ABBA is like a cat that lost it´s sleeping place< --- love from Stockholm
Such a fantastic story of four people who came together to realize a dream, fell in love with each other, created such an amazing musical songbook and changed the world forever. Love them or hate them, you cannot ignore their legacy in modern pop music.
Just Love them , I can't imagine that there is someone who can hate those talented and beautiful people
The harmonies are still unmatched. Still get goosebumps when the voices join in for the chorus.
I couldn't have said it better!!
I honestly dont think there has ever been a greater pairing of voices, these 2 girls set the benchmark & it has never been beaten.
FACT CHECKED: yes
Seriously one of the best songs ever written. The lyrics, the music, the voices. Perhaps, perfection.
It is. With its intricate verses and bridges, it's not like a hit song at all. Still, it comes out as a masterpiece.
I love love love ABBA. This song, and SOS are my absolute favourites; they have the most wonderful layers, depth, melody, and lyrics in my opinion.
Is a great song, and one that I didnt knew before, until i hear it in Mamma Mia...
I think you just described every abba song!
💯
I'd say this is the best ABBA song
ABBA. How can anyone not like ABBA. Just listen to their voices
and those harmonies. Everything they did was awesome.
I fell in love with ABBA the very first time hearing them in the 70's! They are truly a miracle from God!
I think who do not love ABBA have a problem of being GOOD.
@@hajnalkakun7665 but those freaks do exist... 🥸🥸

And the compositions as a whole. There's great reason why ABBA songs get interpreted into great instrumentals.
You’ll never get a harmony like agnetha and Frida, perfect!!!
I say this all the time lol
Robert Philip No, you're right, we won't.
Fun fact: this was filmed in Björn and Agnethas home
I always wondered where this was filmed. I love the red checked curtains!
Wow
One of the Best Abba'song
Im a huge fan of Led Zeppelin, Jethro tull, Black sabbath, ACDC, Iron Maiden etc. I also believe ABBA is quite possibly the greatest.
I am also a great metal fan but the voices of this women is unparalled.
Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple's favorite band? ABBA!

Oe.
Who were those music critics that failed to see the brilliance of Abba? The people voted. Abba were the Gods of pop. Rediscovered this gem. One of their best.
I ' believe one of the critics was Rolling Stone magazine ' ABBA were too pleasant and pure for their liking ' they prefer to idolize people that plant bombs that cripple and maim other people.
NME was one. There's a youtube of Benny getting stuck into an NME reporter at the Voyage thing last May. He has a long memory.
The baroque trumpet in the chorus is exquisite
You ve perfectly expressed the pure explosion of joy when I listen to this part of this amazing song❤
It is baroque indeed, in a Scandinavian way: genius.
Those two women’s voices shine, like a godly yin and yang in perfect harmony. Frida’s richly intense EARTHY tone (that seems to portray wisdom and contentment) blended with Agnetha’s poignantly open ANGELIC voice (that seems to capture love and desperation) … creates this GODLY sound, a vibrational frequency that puts us in awe and in harmony with the universe. Magic, I tell you. It’s magic. 😊😊😊😊
To be fair, when Frida sings in a higher register I have mistaken her voice for Agnetha´s.
For years I thought Departure was sung by Agnetha.
I love 'Departure'. Massive effect on me when I was 18 and about to go off to university.
@@seamuslittle Me too! :-)
You described it perfectly!
There is such a special atmosphere in this song. Highly underrated Abba-song.
Agree, but only underrated commercially I believe. Like SOS (and others of course), a masterful composition rightfully recognised by peers...
True! It’s one of my favorites! Very underrated 🥰
So True, Koot 1968. Very underrated but timing is everything in the music business; perhaps this is why this tune was as big as it should have been.
Exactly! That's what I feel, a special atmosphere in this song. I used to sing it going to school, during the classes, returning home. Magic part of my life.
Very true, my favourite Abba song.
I'm starting to believe that in the waiting room in Heaven, ABBA is playing on the speakers!
Happy friendship day
So true..... amazing
We’re all already in the waiting room, so you’re right 😁
I love this!
Come on man, they’re not dead yet!
Brilliant artists aside, can I just say how refreshing it is to watch a video of people with their own lovely and charming teeth (not veneers), women not overly made up so that they're unrecognizable, and just healthy, beautiful, but natural looking people sharing their talent with the world? I miss people looking like people.
💯 👏🏻 😍
I absolutely love their "imperfect" teeth! ❤
Me to,very much so. So sad the way people are today! Horrible
By far my favourite ABBA song. So, of course, I see it harshly underrated.
I'm with you on this.
ABBA - The Name Of The Game 0842am 3.8.23 the working title of this song was: what's the name of the fart? and a starter for ten: which recording studio engineer pulled off the massive feat of not only collecting the whole liquor store stash for a heavy abba recording session but broke wind as he entered the recording room door as beni was bouncing down the original 8 track. his mighty guff being heard from quite some distance and can still be discerned much to beni's consternation.. during the opening of said song?
It’s nice to hear both Agnetha and Frida share lead vocals in the same song. In almost all their other songs, either one leads or the whole track is sang in unison.
Even tho I’m a heavy metal fan I can’t help but love and adore ABBA
Shane Luscombe Be proud brother, im a heavy metal fan too.. but nothing still compares to ABBA ever 👍
ABBA is not just about a particular. They glorify music in general.
*about a particular genre of music... (correction, above)
Abba brought me to King Crimson.
Agree!!
Best harmonies ever!
curiously complex for something so immediate. absolute masterpiece in songwriting.
From a musical standpoint....this is the most perfect structured pop song. ABBA were the highest class of pop music
This is such a well constructed song. It's almost like 3 different songs merged together in one great compilation.
ABBA'S best in my opinion.
Oh yes, the first cd of ABBA I bought was ABBA gold and I remember that I liked the part of this song when Frida starts to sing in solo but later didn't know which song was and I couldn't relate it with the start which sounded somehow darker than the rest of the song.
Thats the formula for a real pop tune, a melody and a clever countermelody. Not many musicians can do that anymore.. its more like the same theme repeated all over. Many of todays pop tunes would due for a bridge only in the 70ies..
It's genius
And one of the songs is even a capella.
This band is an instrument of the divine to evoke emotions so deep and varied in human beings... there may never be another like them ever again
Omg, Abigail. You are so right!!!
They get better the older the songs get, pure class
Agnetha’s voice sounds like the purest crystal. Annie-Frida’s voice sounds like the warmest and finest wood.
What a great comment. Their blended vocals are among the best ever.
Their voices were different from others that are ABBA franchise now. You named it... crystal voices
I have listened to Abba since 1974 and no one ever described the magic of the blend of their voices as perfect as you do👍
I love the similes you chose!
Agree! Definite wood.
ABBA were the epitome of Musical royalty. The boys were musical geniuses and Agnetha & Frida were vocally perfect. The likes of which will never be replicated. LEGENDS.
when those harmonies come in! WOW!
ABBA is my childhood❤
same here :) I heard them for the first time as a baby exactly 30 years ago, on my Mom's birthday :)
The spontaneous scene between 03:33 and 03:54 must be easily one of the most romantically satisfying pieces of imagery ever achieved in the history of motion pictures
Spot on! It’s spontaneous and genuine. She bursts out laughing with such abandon... and looks all the more beautiful !
Lovely, genuine, playful. Who could ask for more? Good eye, friend.
such a beautiful moment
I agree 100 percent it's so beautiful
@Abi_Lou I think it was true love ❤
How can anyone NOT like this.. Or Abba?!
+Celtic Lady. Sadly, I'm old enough to remember when this first came out.
It was an OK, average sort of song to me then.
I never noticed all the subtleties in the arrangement that I can hear now.
Now I realise just what a fantastic song this is (along with all of the others!)
I've heard a lot of ABBA fans say that they didn't really appreciate how good they were at the time. It's only in recent years that they've experienced an epiphany.
who does not like it because they never heard or do not like what is good
Ben, a lot of their songs have great basslines (especially songs like One Of Us) that I never really noticed at the time. It was partially due to the fact that 40 years ago our TV's and radios had tiny little tinny speakers.
Lew Minati Wasn't they awful :) Great to hear the quality with today's stereo's,But' At least we still had music.
Sometimes the songs and tunes that stays with you forever are those that grows into you slowly not the HITs.
One the real master pieces from the masters of pop. Cannot stop hearing it, just mindblowing. For all times.
It’s a stunning song. And that’s from a lifelong punk!
No band is a match to this phenomenal band.
How do you record a perfect pop song? This is how. Epic ABBA.
Well, even when hacks like Led Zeppelin goes to record in their studio you know It's good.
What a GORGEOUS woman is Frida. She's stunning!
3:50. Benny and Frida. So cute. Tremendous song, wonderful vocals and arrangement, really gets under your skin.
Listing to the acoustic rhythm in this song is like listening to Ringo on his drum kit, really catchy melodic riffs.
best pop band in history
It was a good manufactured song band. No one can beat the Beatles.
Beatles was rock n roll for me
Do you think the Song All you need is Love, is Rock? Blackbird?YEsterday? HEy JUde?
yes, I agree. Abba is the best.
garddisc
One of the best vocal arrangements I've ever heard.
Graduated from college in 1968! I’m 75 years old in 2021 and still listening to them! So excited they’re getting back together!
Timeless. So many elements to the song. If this came out today i belive it would still be a big hit.
The drop at 2:05 is just incredible. You're just begging for a chorus and throws you back into that lazy minor riff.
They were sheer genius composers the guys😍😍😍
That's one of my favorite parts of the song. Even that short figure has some intricate 3-part in there.
Great to see that I’m not the only one who is enjoying this. Absolutely stunning composing.
The version on ABBA Gold does just that, skips the second verse and goes straight to another round of chorus to the end. I hate that version because I love the second verse, and it makes no sense when they sing “your smile and the sound of your voice” in the ending chorus, because that line is introduced in the second verse.
100% it's wonderful but drives me crazy at the same time!
16 years old, driving my '72 Ford Maverick, listening to Abba on 8-track.. life was glorious.
Im 12 right now listening to Abba instead of playing video games. Abba for life
yyy
The subtle trumpet in this song may well be subtle.....but it adds even more perfection to this perfect track.
Hey You gotta check out a band called The Doublejumps if you like ABBA. Beautiful singing and songwriting
Takes me back to a time when the only man in my life was my Dad ❤😊
I think this is one of their underrated songs. It showcases both girls brilliant voices and and is one of my favourite ABBA songs. Top stuff.
This song was a hit all over the world. Including the US. Not underrated. I agree with your other comment though 100%. :)
As some other commenter said, it seems too complex to have been a major hit. But it was.
And it is one of my favourite ABBA songs.
All four of them sing. But yes, the women have amazing voices, but all of them harmonize.
Lol anyone here in 2019? Can’t believe I got pulled into the ABBA rabbit hole again. But what can I say? I love them so much lol.
Casey Greyson it happens. I was a school boy when abba were making most of their hits. And since Denmark is so close to Sweden it makes me proud to be a Scandinavian. But even Denmark had its musical place in the sun with AQUA, another great ban.

My favourite Abba song. Their most complex hit. By rights the structure is too complicated for a big pop hit, but the genius of Benny and Bjorn turned it into a number one hit in the UK. Just such an incredibly satisfying listen: a mini classical opus masquerading as a pop song.
