Three ring circus, point counterpoint in movie theme. And the drunk, staggering collision of fate at the end. Just amazing. In the movie, it was fragmented and thrown in for filler. But here, it comes so alive. So glad the lady here didn’t comment cuz she was apparently missing it.

  • @giuseppefellini6124

For me, the beauty of this music is in the large number of images that manages to evoke within us (without we even realize it fully): the horses that gallop, the howl of coyote in the desert, the trumpets of a border area with Mexico, the bells that resound for the dead, the feeling of pressing events and the heart that beats more and more impetuous. Even the part with the piano evokes us a sense of suspension, while the oboe paints within us the expectation as it was a bitter reflection, of the protagonist, on the life that perhaps, with the imminent battle, is about to lose. But immediately the ride returns, with the solo voice singing. Everything is a perfect description of a preparation for the battle. The epic materialized in music. It's music, but it's itself a movie. It is no coincidence that Sergio Leone, the brilliant Italian director who made these wonderful films, always asked Ennio Morricone (a former schoolmate) to compose the soundtrack before shooting: then he made it listen to the actors while they recited, so that they absorbed those emotions

James Hetfeld from Metallica, is a huge western fan, and have since the beginning of Metallica (1983 I think) always started a Metallica Concert with The extacy of Gold from The Good, the Bad & the Ugly as they enter the scene.
As you have mentioned they have done several theme nights, with every thing from Westerns, Sci-fi to agents to Fantasy, so there are quite a few things to choose from.
Btw. did you notice the "Hang man" and the silhouette of Clint Eastwood. And you should rewatch it, the Dollar triology, The good, the bad & the ugly, a fistful of dollars and a few dollar more are some of the best westerns ever made, I would throw Once upon a time in there as well.

But there was a music-box and he gave me some for to make music. I've got the decision.
So I entered the Music-Box and I decided the Single of "Once Upon A Time In The West" - - - but in this Movie, there were THREE SONGS!
I was feared of the 'Mundharmonic-Song' and bored by the 'Lady-Song' (Claudia Cardinale-Song) but (as a child I was) LOVED the so called "Cheyenne-Song".
But at the Jukebox I decided worse and got the deatly harmonica.

Ennio Moriconne said by himself, that Film-Music can't be some songs played while the movie's running!
    Flm-Music has to been written!!!

I saw the movie while I was in college; sometime around 1968. This is two cuts from the original score: the Main Theme and "The Ecstacy of Gold". If I remember rightly, the Main Theme as played here is a very close rendition of the original soundtrack version. The music was absolutely different from everything else playing way back then.

Hello Constanza - it's just wonderful and adorable to watch your face, especially your mouth. Sometimes the mouth is serious and absorbing, then it contorts into a smile, then even further with enthusiasm. Your smile is contagious and makes you even prettier than you already are (I may note that I am an old dog (still 71 years old)), music enthusiast since my youth at 15 years. I love to listen to "good" music of almost any direction for my life and enjoy when I see someone who also appreciates music.
May I make some recommendations? From my youth several pieces of music have grown very close to my heart - "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" by Gary Brooker, who recently passed away (RIP) Together with just the "Danish National Synphony Orchestra" 2006 live (Link: th-cam.com/video/St6jyEFe5WM/w-d-xo.html)
"Nights In White Satin" by the Moody Blues.
I am curious about your reactions!

Great reaction. Although all of this music is great, I believe that the second segment, Ecstacy of Gold, is one of the most gorgeous pieces of music ever composed for a film. And yes, it is hard to believe that this movie was released way back in 1966, and as great and successful as it was, it was made with a budget of 1.2 million dollars. These days, the credits probably couldn't be done for that.

The original Ennio Morricone version was perfect, but in some of his concerts the Ecstasy of Gold was played too fast, but the DNSO get it spot on,with beautiful sopranos too,a great piece of music that l never tire of hearing.

The second half of this performance is called "Ecstasy of Gold" and those of us who saw the movie will remember that theme during the frantic search of the labyrinth graveyard. Brilliant movie making.

The Danish National Orchestra did a wonderful job , but the best version and interpretation of the Morricone's western themes is made by Ars Cantus under the direction of the great Giovanni Tenti.

I would have loved to be in the audience for this. The video is good, but there is a sound difference. This Symphony knocked this masterpiece out of this universe.
